Snow in the DC-MD-VA area

Here in northern Calvert County, we had 6 inches of accumulation as of 7:30 am. Enjoying looking out at the snow while sipping my coffee.

How’s everyone else doing?

Lovely 6 inches or so of accumulation outside us in Arlington. Glad it’s a Sunday.

We’ve gotten 5-6" in St. Mary’s county and it’s still coming down. I’m glad it didn’t blow and drift - the area under the eaves is clear enough for the pugs to potty.

There was an inch or two on the ground when I got up about an hour ago, but mostly light and fluffy stuff. I cleared the front walk in a couple of minutes using the push-brush rather than the shovel. It’s still snowing now, so I’ll go out again later in the day to clear it again. Otherwise, I’ve no plans to go outside.

The trees look very pretty.

Daughter and I will go out in a little while and shovel the driveway. **FCD **is not allowed because of multiple spinal surgeries, and SIL is in a walking cast thingie, told to stay off his feet. So it’s up to the wimmen-folk.

Our driveway is cleared and the plows have been thru the neighborhood. Here’s hoping the cleared areas don’t turn into ice rinks.

We have 6 inches or so in Silver Spring, with a little still coming down. The main road is just a little slushy, but our street hasn’t been cleared. A nearby parking lot had been plowed earlier but is getting covered again.

Yes I’m really glad it’s a Sunday. I’m hoping my snow guy makes an appearance today.

This is winter storm Gia which is far more extensive than just the DC-MD-VA area (and more intense in some of the other areas). Ten people have been killed in the storm–in Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, West Virginia… Hundreds were stranded on highways in Missouri.

We ended up with close to a foot in my part of Montgomery County. This from a storm that was originally predicted to give us maybe 1-3". Quite an impressive overperformance.

Had no idea! I’d been under the impression that this was another of those storms that come up from the south.

If the channel 7 weather folk were accurate, we’ve got another 2-3 inches to clear this morning. Too dark to tell right now.

My in-laws are planning to drive from Ocala, FL to Indianapolis starting today. We’re worried about what they may encounter en route. They’re both nearly 90…

I’ll be going out in a minute clear the walks and shove the snow off my car, even though I’m working from home today and have no plans to drive anywhere yet. I am surprised by how much more snow we got yesterday afternoon and overnight.

Actually, there was a heck of a lot of snow on the car–9 or 10 inches on the hood, trunk and roof. I shoved it off to one side with the push-broom and will see about more detailed clearing later.

Up and about at last - and I’m guessing we got 3-4" more overnight, based on our back porch. Today I’m glad I’m just a part-time employee and Monday isn’t a work day for me.

Man, I’ve already cleared off my car three times: once around 10 AM yesterday, once around 5 PM yesterday, and once around 6 AM this morning. I got in to work early so I could leave while it’s still light out and get round two of shoveling done – I drive a Jeep, so no need to shovel the driveway, but the sidewalk should be done. Loudoun County here. Quick Google search says we got 11 inches where I live.

Roads were terrible this morning, but I got to my 9 am dr appt by 7:30 out of an abundance of caution only to find that they have delayed to 10:45 because they had trouble getting staff in.

Yesterday, we drove from Richmond, VA back to DC. We started out around 10 and got home before the next storm started. 95 was fine as long as you drove at a reasonable speed, but I was amazed how many people insist on driving like asses. Every couple of miles, we’d pass a car wiped out in a ditch, including some nasty looking accidents with multiple ambulances.

I’ve lived in the D.C. area for more than 20 years. It seems to me that “Driving like asses” is a defining characteristic of the area. Drivers around here routinely risk death just to get one or two cars ahead.

Actually, the bad driving was mostly around Richmond and it was amazingly bad. My wife and I always have debates about who are worse drivers, Virginians or Marylanders, after yesterday, we have a verdict.
