So admit it, are (still) sure Trump will not become the new president?

I’m talking about her leads in the polls which always descended whether or not she won. I recall she only slipped a little in a couple of those. The point is she’s not the ‘Comeback Kid’ her husband was, she’s a strategic campaigner and hasn’t shown great skill in tactics.

I’m not one to put too much stock in polls, or predictions based on the past, because as we’re finding out this cycle the present and the future don’t have to follow the past. But it’s something to observe about her through the rest of this election period.

Just a couple?!
I live in the UK and so Trump’s lie about London mattered particularly.
Note that the London police and both our major political parties all condemned Trump’s lie.

I really want to believe that Trump’s support will fall apart once he’s firmly outside the GOP Primary, and has to directly engage with Clinton and moderate voters. I want to believe that he’ll make a total ass of himself in the debates. But he’s been subverting expectations for a while now. It’s going to be a scary election season.

Trump has systematically alienated every demographic but working-class whites (and even among them there are probably a lot of women who won’t vote for a misogynist). That base might have been numerous enough to make up a Silent Majority in Nixon’s day, but it is a minority now.

That does not appear to be true of her second senate race. In the first, she ended up (in the election) very close (55% compared to 56%) to where she started in polling.

As for being the Comeback Kid, well, who cares? You have to fall way behind to mount a “comeback,” don’t you? So she’s had one race where she fell behind and didn’t catch up, two races where she didn’t fall behind and won, and the current race where she doesn’t appear to be falling behind and is going to win. What dire thing does this reveal?

I didn’t say it reveals anything dire. Both sides have their strengths and weaknesses.

Save your effort. What you say has been repeatedly and consistently pointed out to truthSeeker2 in a number of threads, but he persists in this pathetic nonsense. Who knows what his agenda is, but he really has his head buried in the sand. Take comfort that he is not an American and cannot vote, then pay him no mind.

Honesty does not qualify you for presidency, nor does it salvage a disastrous tax plan.

You said it shows she has a problem in campaigns. Now it’s not anything dire. I’m pretty confused what your point is. And what sides are we talking about with strengths and weaknesses?

It’s easy to be “honest” when, like Trump, you have the kind of mind that is capable of believing whatever you are saying at the moment no matter how detached from reality it is or whether it contradicts what you said yesterday.

Trump and Clinton both have strengths and weaknesses. I’m looking at Hillary to see if she can adjust as the campaign goes on or try to stick to a plan that she thinks will take her to the White House. Presidential candidates often rise and fall on how they deal with the unexpected events that happen along the way. With Trump I’m looking to see if he knows how modify the image he created with a single minded ambition to win the GOP nomination. When he’s good he can explain his stances to people and find a middle ground, but he’s been so combative so far he may just try to win this simply by attacking Clinton, and she should realize that the public will grow bored with that, making her as immune to attacks as Trump turned out to be. I find this stuff interesting, and has nothing to do with who I want to be president. I’m not thrilled with either Clinton or Trump so I don’t see much point in taking a highly partisan stance in discussions. I don’t see why I have to offer my view in Elections threads as if I’m one of the candidate’s surrogates.

I’m definitely getting a little worried, on the grounds that 1) I don’t, personally, see it, but apparently Trump has charisma, and charisma is a powerful force; and 2) misogyny, including internalized misogyny, is also a powerful force.* I think Clinton will pull it out, but it will be closer than it should be; by all rights this SHOULD be a 1972-level landslide, and I don’t think it will.

  • I don’t mean to argue that misogyny is the only reason for opposing Clinton; heck, I voted against her in both the 2008 and 2016 primaries, although it was a very difficult decision and I’m not at all sure I made the right call the second time. But I think it IS the big unspoken factor that is simultaneously making her look “too acquisitive and ambitious” and “not presidential enough” in a lot of people’s minds.

Well, if it helps, I also don’t see why you have to offer your view in Elections threads. I blame Obama.

In the long run, economic policies of Trump (if he has the freedom to do what he wants to do) are going to be great for America and for the world.

In the long run. do you think Trump’s military policies – given the freedom to do what he wants to do – will be great for America and the world?

Not even in long run but very soon, he will have friendship with Russia and Syria. Maybe even with north korea, I dont know. Leaders all over the world are going to be delighted if he gets elected because they know he is good for the world. But because they have to be politically correct and they have no business commenting on US politics, they won’t comment at the moment.
But sadly, Hillary is going to win.

Yes, indeed. The fans of Trump will stay silent out of political correctness, inspired by Trump. But those dastardly dastards like the asshole British PM who are against Trump will speak out, because Trump opponents lack PC.

And Trump will have friendship with Russia and Syria and North Korea as they compare notes…

By commenting on Trump, David Cameron is trying to appease his votebank in his own country.

He should not have used the language he used even if he disagreed with Trump.

What makes you think this? Are you an economist? If not, then, cite?

[I regret this already.]

Well, of course! He should be PC about Trump, because Trump is PC-dom in a hairy orange package.
