So how do I work this belt buckle?

I just got this really neato belt buckle off of ebay, and I am bidding on some more. I don’t know where this new yen for belt buckles has come from (especially since I have never been a “belt” person) - I guess it speaks of some unspoken need to walk around with a giant metal insect positioned above my crotch.

Anyway, I got my first one in the mail a couple days ago, and I havent been able to belt myself in because I cant figure out how it is supposed to work. I tried slipping one of my regular belts in, but the regular belt’s buckle prevents it from fitting, and it seems kind of redundant to have a fancy belt buckle sitting on top of an already buckled belt.

So do they sell non-belted, pre-punched strips of leather for these belt buckles? Or do you have to fashion your own? How would I do that? Or, do I have to take the buckle to a shop where they attach it to a belt?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Get a good belt, with snaps instead of threadage holding down the bit that holds the buckle (that is, snaps where yours is sewed). Then you can take the buckle off and put another on to suit your whims.

Oh, Thank You Gunslinger. Is that the kind of thing I can find at my local neighborhood mall, or do I have to go to a belt store, or a pants-specialty store?

I don’t know where you live, but if there is a western clothing store (ie. cowboy hats, belts, boots, all that other silly crap) in your town you should go there. IIRC, some belts actually have some sort of fastener (buttons i believe) that holds the buckle on. This can be undone and replaced with a different buckle if you want. Hope this helps…

Thanks Dani : )

I will check my local yellow pages for a western store.

And if I dont find one, I will call my newly drivers-licensed brother and have him go driving to find one for me.

Hurray for Belt Buckles!

also try any place that sells accessories for bikers, especially if you don’t like the carving on some western style belts. Biker places should have plain black ones.

Or you could always try the department store where I got my belt a decade ago… They’re really common

Yeah, anyplace that sells leather belts should have 'em. I got mine at Wal*Mart.
