So how hot is it?

Well, right now I’m in a third (top) floor 1,000 sq foot apartment with a single wall air conditioner unit that doesn’t seem to work all that well. If it’s 90 out, it’s 85 inside with the air on full blast.

I can’t WAIT until next month, when we are moving into a new apartment complex…ahhhhh, central air!

It’s so hot, that I saw a squirrel icing his nuts.
[sub]Apologies to Dave![/sub]

Not very hot hery. IT’s been rainy and crappy the last couple of days. The internet says it’s a whopping 5C here right now…and I’m walking around in short sleeves thinking it’s warm! Moving down south in August is going to be murder…

It’s so hot, the trees are whistling for the dogs.

It’s just peaked at 114, but if I can add 10 degrees for direct sun, that takes us into nuclear blast zone hot. I actually had to use my shirt tail to turn the front door handle because the metal burned my bare hand. Out at my car, I had to enter through the passenger side because the driver’s side had been baking in the sun.

Scary thing is, it’s going to average 10 degrees higher and about 90 percent humidity in the next 4-6 weeks. Yay!

Yeah, but as all week we had 70 % + humidity, it really is a break.

104 today, 115 heat index, 60% humidity.

And we did all our errands at the hottest part of the day. :smack:

It is only about 100 now. Last week we were in Parker AZ and it was 125. When we got home here in Bakersfield CA it was 15 degrees cooler. It was fun to joke about with some friends.

Currently? 86 F and 72% humidity, 10:41p local time. During the day, it was in the mid 90s for both temp and humidity. This’ll be pretty much it every day until September.

…that at 10:30 at night, it’s still 87 degrees out. Factoring in the humidity and dew point, and we’ve got a heat index of 97.

I’m tempted to tomorrow clean off the hood of my (black) car and see if I can fry an egg on it.

But that would mean going outside.

<< Is there life before coffee? Yes, but not intelligent life. >>

Right now, 93 with a heat index of 102. We’re heading to 99 and a heat index of 115 though. Oh Goody.

It’s so hot, I saw a racoon boiling a robin in a birdbath.
It’s so hot, I saw a dog chasing a cat and they were both on fire.
It’s so hot, an idiot was walking by a corn field, the corn started popping and flying over the fence, the idiot thought it was snowing and froze to death!

In reality…

It’s really quite pleasant up here. I haven’t really paid attention to the temperature, but it feels like it might be hitting 80°F or so.

I talked to my sister in San Diego yesterday. She was complaining of the heat. I talked to a former neighbour in L.A. last week. She was complaining of the heat there.

Well it was 118 here yesterday and today seems just as warm. It is a little above the average of 105 during the day in the summer months.

I checked the OAT guage when I was driving yesterday afternoon. It read 75°F.

It’s 90F/32C at the moment, with 59% humidity. But it’s not yet 10.30 am. The predicted high for today is 102F/39C, with a predicted heat index of almost 120F/49C. It’s supposed to be the hottest day in Chicago in six years. It’s a safe prediction that we’re going to have at least a few heat-related deaths today.

10 am. 58 F in the Colorado Mountains.

I thought It might snow last night. I don’t think it did. Maybe a few flakes.

I feel for you folks, I do. I was in Denver a few days ago when it pushed 106F.

It’s hotter than the hubs of Hell (and that’s the hottest part!).

93º on my balcony now, thank Og we’ve got some cloud cover. Inside my smoker it’s 120º.
Got my light bill yesterday, $216. For a 945 square foot apartment. Last year’s peak was about $120.

High today is supposed to be 101 with 58% humidity so it’ll feel like 119. On the bright side, accuweather lists the windchill at 91.

A very comfortable 13 Celcius in Rankin Inlet today. Shooting for a high of 15 degrees.

A really warm day here is about 20 degrees C (68 F) - the local residents are distressed about the heat whenever the temperature tops about 15.

As I’ve said before, desert heat is ‘different’ from heat in other places. Los Angeles is arid, but it’s not like the Mojave. Heat in the high desert (as opposed to, say, Palm Springs) is more tolerable to me.

Hearing about the record-matching temp of 117°F in Las Vegas reminded me of a story my dad told me once. I think it happened to him, but I don’t remember. He (assuming it was he to whom it happened) was flying a Cessna. I don’t remember if it was a 150 or a 172, but Cessnas are rather kite-like with their excellent wings. He was landing at the Barstow-Daggett airport, and the approach was normal – until he got over the runway. The blacktop was so hot that the rising air made it difficult to land. Every time he tried, he got caught in an ‘updraft’ and the aircraft just floated. He finally made a very steep attempt and made it down safely.

Amen to that! I prefer temps from 40 to 80, but I’d rather broil than freeze!

Amazing how a cold drink in the shade can nearly instantly revive one in the summer but freezing-cold hands and feet take hours of exposure to the warmth to feel useable again.

Cold and wet is even worse.
