So Kim Kardashian is getting divorced

Well, there’s your problem. Lots of people DO watch her shows and buy her products, that’s why she’s rich. Doesn’t bother me, I don’t watch her shows or buy her products (not SURE about that, since I don’t know what all she owns, but I’ve never bought anything her name was attached to). Which is why I don’t find her annoying at all. I like her, what little I’ve paid attention to. She is a GORGEOUS piece of woman flesh. Got a curvy ass and knows how to use it.

The little bits and pieces I’ve seen of her on TV (mostly on the Soup and sometimes the news shows when they’re doing infotainment) indicate she’s a pleasant, not terribly bright, self-centered person. Her mom appears to be the brains of the outfit, I bet she’s got some interesting things to say if she were willing to say them in front of a camera, not that I think she would.

If you think reality starhood is or should be a merit-based thing, think a while about the people who are the fans who make her rich. They are not interested in the same kind of merit you are.

I hear you - feels similar to some of the points I was making, while also commenting on the phenomenon of this new type of “celebrity”.

So - per the back-and-forth upthread: this really isn’t a fanboy/girl thread - too many posters are looking for the script behind the scenes, like wrestling. And smacking one’s forehead about the ridiculousness of what seems to be going on isn’t, near as I can tell, threadshitting; it is more just stepping back and processing what is going on, and how it seems to fit within the “Master Plan” of KK - and her plan seems to be: keep the drama coming - crazy, but crazy like a fox…a big-assed fox, that is

My darling bride and I have outlasted a celebrity marriage. Take that, KK and your $10^6 wedding!

Tila Tequila could guest-star!

How about a raffle?

I’d buy a ticket…

Our poor heart-broken Kim has finally released a statement, telling us she married for love, she did not make millions off her wedding and she can’t believe she has to defend this. http://kimkardashian.celebuzz.com/2011/11/01/a-message-to-my-fans/

Can we send the OWS and Tea Party to her mansion?

It seems she’s decided to get over her sorrows by coming to Australia to flog handbags.

We’re so lucky.

If I could add a sort of corollary to your non-threadshitting, it seems like once every month or two I get into a “conversation” like this:

Coworker/semi-close-friend/father-in-law/social-acquaintance: Did you see the kinds of drugs Dr. X was feeding Michael Jackson/Did you hear Kim Kardashian is already divorced???/Did you hear about the mom who killed her kids?
Me: Not interested in that stuff. Don’t follow it. Don’t want to move aside any brain cells for it. I am now attempting to change the topic.
Other party: WELL, let me tell you all about it! Blah blah blah
Me: Please - god - stop. I’m going to jam knitting needles in my eyes now.
Other party: AND then they said blah blah blah.
etc.

So my point to Word Man is: people are obsessed about this the way other people are obsessed about sports. So think of it as a sport.

FWIW I had dinner with the Jenner/Kardashian family a couple of years ago. The older daughters weren’t there but the two youngest were (pre-teen at the time IIRC). They were completely normal children, played with my friends’ kids, behaved themselves, etc. Bruce and Kris were really nice folks. Never met the tabloid siblings so can’t comment beyond what everyone else sees.

Sure discussing sports can drive folks crazy, but this seems more like pro wrestling because this type of celebrity existence feels scripted. Sports’ biggest draw is its unexpected moments; the biggest appeal of this type of entertainment is its sheer “gossip-ability”.
A big portion of posters are sneering at the situation and person - that’s okay because at least they are within the rules of gossip. But commenting on the manufactured nature is outside the lines drawn by the entertainer.

Cite please.

You just made my day. LOL!

Now there’s a rumor that Kim may not have been a virgin when they got married. He’ll probably go for annulment.

She is donating $200k to charity which she says equals the amount of gifts she got.

Kim Kardashian almost killed me while I was at the gym. No, really. I was running on a treadmill, reading the closed captions on the gym tvs, and some E-like celebrity news show was on, no idea which one. It was just before the wedding, and they had a segment about how she was working out extra hard to be in shape for the wedding, and had a clip with her personal trainer saying “There’s no quit in Kim!”

To which the host of the show quipped “Unless there’s an LA Laker named Quit!”

This almost resulted in grievous bodily harm to myself, as I snorted bottled water up my nose and almost fell off the treadmill.

I think that was actually a Conan O’Brien zinger.

It may well have been, and been a clip on the show I was watching. I do know it wasn’t Conan’s show that I was watching, though.

If it turns out this Kalderdash was all an elaborate troll for gay rights in the end, I will stand proudly and salute those swarthy bitches.

I have a feeling that this is Kim’s attempt to keep the money flowing. If we (the public) find out that she is just an ordinary hooker, how long will the game last?
She’s doing what all good barnd managers do-keeping the btand “fresh”.

SNL just did a sketch with that exact same title!
