I added a harmless comment to that thread in which I merely stated what a great time I was having reading it. In fact, I stated that you, G. Nome, crack me up. I, in fact, was trying hard to understand you and your sense of humor. I thought I was doing a pretty good job of it, until you deliberately mis-quoted me. I’ll be perfectly honest - that pissed me right off. But discretion is the better part of valor, as they say, and I decided to leave it alone. I saw no reason for pointing out the obvious.
I know you know that your posts are vague to say the least, and complex, to give you the benefit of the doubt. I was actually giving you a little credit for having an inkling of intelligence. But that mis-quoting shit is pure juvenile rubbish. If my post pissed you off that much (which it shouldn’t have because, guess what, I was playing around too), then address me. Finally, and this is going to get me burned bad, Wally is gone and most people here, myself included, didn’t know him as well as some of you. Yeah, he was your friend and deserves your fond remembrances and maybe a flame of someone who disses him. But he wasn’t a saint–wasn’t even particularly pleasant much of the time. Perhaps a little perspective on your part is in order before you go overboard defending his memory.
Because I was a member for some time before he died and found him to often be mean spirited. I wasn’t here long enough to build up the depth of friendship so many other people did. I didn’t know him well but I did know him.
I have been staying away from G. nome because I don’t like beating my head against a brick wall. I originally started the “G. nome you are an idiot” thread out of frustration. I don’t like being jerked around, and I was pretty pissed at her. I realized I was harsh, but it was the heat of the moment.
G. nome is intelligent, but she likes to play games with people. It really pisses me off that as soon as you disagree with her she starts spouting the loony bullshit. I find it very offensive when I’m posting in a serious manner and then she responds with stuff that is clearly intended to mess with me. I resent being pulled into her “performance art.”
That said he has said goodbye to the board on several occasions. She obviously isn’t going away, so I have resolved to stay away from her. I would advise who think her a troll to do the same.

Thank you to the people in this thread who have showed kindness towards me. But it makes me feel strangely uncomfortable. If “troll” haters want to know how to get rid of said trolls take Satan’s advice. Ignore them or treat them nicely - it will probably work.
I felt a lot of jealousy when I first read the Straight Dope. Everyone here seemed so clever and it showed up the deficiencies of the education system I came out of. I could never write like Sofa King or Lance Turbo, for instance, if I tried for 20 years. I recommended the SD to a lot of people for a lot of different reasons. I still do. I apologise for my lack of insight into why I create so much friction.
And because this all niceness just doesn’t feel right I’d like to add this: Someone shove a six pack of Marlboroughs down Satan’s throat. Please.
After reading this entire thread, and reading most all of the links to other threads which were offered here, I have to agree to the following:
G. Nome is not a troll.
G. Nome is highly intelligent.
G. Nome’s posts can cause extreme frustration.
G. Nome is/will become a valuable poster.
Maybe I think this because I started reading this thread only tonight. It give rather a different perspective to not have a personal stake in the thread, and to be able to read it in a continuous stream, not herky-jerky style.
Most, if not all, of her negative comments about posters were made after she was railed upon by that poster. She seldom posted negatively about another, unless that person posted negatively first. She was quite often chided for saying something that she “didn’t” say-i.e. Yue Han posted
Note that she didn’t say that “scientists were making people impotent with black boxes”. Read what she wrote.
I think/know that this wonderful invention(the internet) and this wonderful board(SDMB) are two of the greatest things to come along in this decade. We sometimes forget, in the heat of battle, that what we type here is not always what someone reads here. I guess we’ll never replace a face-to-face conversation, where you can look the other person in the eye, see their facial expression as they say their piece. Zinging someone face to face, with an impish grin is one thing. Zinging them electronically quite often leads to misunderstanding.
Hmmmm, better not talk like that, Sam. Someone might think you’re my sock puppet.
