So, specifically directed toward Bernie supporters...

…and especially you ivory-tower types who just couldn’t bring yourselves to vote for Hillary, I don’t care what state you live in or what other rationalizations you made:

Are you happy with the current state of things? Is this what you wanted? Because from my POV, we now have the exact opposite of it in control of our government now. And it will take many years to reverse the trends that this administration will impose, thanks primarily to the absence from and advancing age of the Supreme Court.

Don’t even think about saying you weren’t warned…

I can already tell you that they will not see themselves as any way responsible for the current state of affairs. To them, all blame lies with the Democratic Party.

Though I think fewer will continue to claim that this is better for progressivism because of “rebuilding on the ashes.”

Of course not. They were just doing what they thought was ‘right,’ as opposed to what was actually good for the country. Or so they’ll repeat to their deathbeds.

The problem is, you need to clear those ashes before you actually get back to progressive change again. And those ashes are exactly what they will have helped to create, whether they want to admit it or not.

Parties that are huge coalitions have to work to keep most members happy. Perhaps the progressive wing is sending a message?

Rant. Pit.

The message being that they should be ignored. And that they destroy their own cause.

When people focus on the election outcome and ask, how the f*ck could people vote for Donald Trump, they’re asking the wrong question. I generally want to know how it all came to this – but by this I mean how did this country become so fucking cynical that it truly believes that Hillary Clinton, for all her faults – and I absolutely agree she has them – is no better than Donald Trump. How did we get to the point where some people on the left believe the whole fucking system just needs to be burned to the ground so we can start over? How thicker-than-pig shit ignorant can supposedly intelligent and educated liberal arts degree holders be?

That’s why, as much as I am disgusted at the outcome, I push back at the “not my president” protests, the calls to abandon the electoral college, and other attempts to de-legitimize Donald Trump. They’re completely clueless and missing the point. Chances are these protesters either didn’t vote or voted third party or just show up every four years to vote and would hand their president an obstructionist congress anyway. No, Donald Trump is absolutely your fucking president - and you’d better god damned well learn to accept it.

I’ll go one one better: not only is Donald Trump your president, your congress and your supreme court are going to murder labor unions, strip financial regulations, make it harder for people of color to vote, make it harder for people from other countries to become America. And there is nothing that can stop them now – nothing except actually voting. Not wearing a safety pin. Not ranting on Facebook. Voting.

I am an “ivory-tower type” in both the generic and the literal sense. I’m a lefty who teaches in a university. A lot of my friends are similarly ivory-tower types.

Among all of my academic and lefty/liberal friends, many were Bernie supporters, both in principle and, in quite a few cases, in actual voting in the primaries. Other were Hillary supporters. I don’t know the exact breakdown, because that would require too much thinking and too much trawling back through old Facebook posts, and i can’t be bothered.

But i do know that, among the people i know who supported Bernie Sanders, every single one of them began pulling for Clinton as soon as Bernie was eliminated from the primary race, and every single one of them, as far as i know, also voted for Clinton on election day. In fact, some of the most vocal and vociferous Bernie supporters turned into some of the most vocal and vociferous Hillary supporters once she became the nominee. I literally do not know a single Bernie supporter, among the dozens that i know, who stayed home or voted third party as some sort of protest or statement of principle. That includes my wife, and would have included me also, if i were an American citizen and eligible to vote.

Also, i haven’t seen any compelling evidence to suggest that Bernie supporters staying home was a significant factor in this election.

We’re at a stage where Clinton’s lead in the popular vote is approaching 2 million votes, so it’s not like she lacked individual support among the American population. And, based on the articles i’ve read about exit polls and voter turnout, it does not really seem to be the absence of “ivory-tower types” or even Bernie supporters who cost her the election in the important swing states.

If you have some evidence to the contrary, i’d be happy to see it. Otherwise, maybe you could sit back with a nice steaming mug of STFU and focus on actually doing something to fix the situation, rather than whining ineffectually about what some nebulous group of people that you’re angry with may or may not have done.

Way to go, liberals, beat each other to death because that’ll help A LOT … if this is the fault of both The Donald and Bernie voters … then the OP stands with a substantial minority … tofu-puking crybabies … get over yourself will ya?

Just piss on each other so the Republicans can win all the State houses and control the 2020 reapportionment … then you’ll have another ten years of all the complaining to make your heart glad …

Are you proud to be so stupid?

Well, you’ll need a name for those who betrayed the cause and caused the defeat, how about November Criminals?

I’m a Sanders supporter. During the primaries, I thought he was the best option available, and so I voted for him. Once the primaries were over, he was no longer the best option available, because he wasn’t available any more. At that time, Clinton became the best option available, and so I voted for her, too.

Now, there are certainly some Sanders supporters who will loudly proclaim that this wouldn’t have happened if we had nominated him (I’m not among this group; this election has been weird enough that I honestly have no clue what would have happened). But that’s still not inconsistent with them having voted for Clinton.

Claiming that voting for someone else ‘as a protest’ because you live in another state is ignorant, wrongheaded, and utterly futile. I know, big words, try using a dictionary.

I have a 165 IQ and far more education than even most people here on the board can claim.

Finally, all you’ve done is troll, adding nothing substantive whatsoever. So fuck off, lugnut.

Sounds like a bit of projection there, chum. I didn’t assign blame, nor did I claim anything about those Bernie voters swinging the election.

So maybe the STFU should be yours, ‘cause you’re never going to have any effect on what I say. However, where I say it may be affected. Posts in the Pit are a gigantic waste of time, just a place for trolls to measure their e-peens. I think I’ll stick to posting in others’ threads, in sections where there’s actually some mature discussion.

165 IQ? Damn. We got a rare genius here.

And can your 99.99x percentile self explain to us how a Bernie voter in Mississippi makes one bit of difference with regards to Hillary losing?

Or, for that matter, a Bernie voter in Massachusetts or New York?

A third-party “protest vote” or abstention in a solidly red or blue state is a very different kettle of fish, electorally speaking, than a third-party “protest vote” or abstention in a contested or swing state.

Were Bernie supporters to blame for this?

It was whites with a high school education who did this. Blame them. They are the ones that turned the northern midwest red. A vulgar con man offered them easy answers and dog whistles and they ate it up. Blame them for this mess. Blame the ones in PA, MI and WI for this mess, Hillary would’ve won with those 3 states.

I know polling has lost a lot of credibility in 2016, but it was my understanding that 90-98% of Bernie voters were going to vote Clinton. Again, the polls were total shit this cycle, but that means at most about 1.3 million Bernie voters sat out or voted third party.

I think he is proud to be so stupid … son-of-a-gun … nice call John Mace

This is state of affairs is entirely the fault of Hillary Clinton and all the people who abandoned the principles of the Democratic Party to coronate an elitist selfish fuck up who didn’t give a rat’s ass about the people who ended up abandoning the party to vote for Trump. I don’t believe a single Bernie supporter who would have ever voted for Hillary Clinton ended up voting for Donald Trump. I want an apology from her and every one of you dumb fucks who believed the bullshit story that she was qualified to be president instead of the least accomplished person ever to receive the nomination of a major party except for George W. ‘Shit for Brains’ Bush.

If you feel compelled to post your alleged IQ on the internet, it’s a sure sign you’re losing an argument. Believe me, as a guy with a 12" dick, I know whereof I speak.
