Was that horrid, cheesy line really necessary? Vader force crushing everything around him in a fit of rage looked good, the nooo… line was just damned silly.
And I was actually thinking that the bad guys in this trilogy were actually more evil (and more beleivably threatening) than when we see them again in the original trilogy.
I was thinking of Anakin’s last line to Obi-Wan: “I HATE YOU!”. So trite and immature, so teenager-ish. It would’ve been better if he’d gasped “This… isn’t… over” or “We’ll… meet… again.” Either would foreshadow their fateful clash in ANH; the first line recalls Mace Windu’s line from AoTC, “This party’s over.” (Come to think of it, “this isn’t over” would also recall the deathbed taunts by Charlton Heston’s nemesis in Ben Hur, after he’d been defeated and mauled in the chariot race.)
Are you serious? “We’ll meet again” would be the most cliche thing Anakin could possibly say. I think “I hate you” works just fine. It shows that Anakin is so wrapped up in his anger that he can’t even let it go to save his own life. It might also explain why, in RotJ, Obi-Wan thinks that Vader is beyond redemption.
Nah, I thought it was much better for Anakin to tell Obi-Wan that he hated him. It might be immature but it’s also a pretty spiteful and hateful thing to say. I’m thinking that both of them figured that Anakin wasn’t long for this world so saying “We’ll meet again” doesn’t make much sense.
