Ah, foster failures. They’re bittersweet for the rescue sometimes, but always the greatest news for the forever home and much loved new pet, so still a win for all!
I love a story with a happy ending - yay for everybody!!!
Sugar, ah honey honey
You are my candy girl
And you’ve got me wanting you.
Honey, ah sugar sugar
You are my candy girls
And you got me wanting you
She looks like a sweetie. And you, PapSett, are a sweetie too. Clearly, all those dogs love you heaps and heaps.
Congratulations on the addition to your family.
Bravo!
I know I seem to many like I don’t have a heart, but I spent three years working for the SPCA, or the equivalent of a state and locally funded home for pets who were brought in because their owners couldnt or wouldn’t want to take care of them any longer, they got out of control, they had a litter of puppies or kittens that was not planned, etc, etc, etc.
I could tell you stories that would break your heart. But why bother? THESE are the types of stories I love to hear. One more dog off of death row. And let me tell you, I am convinced animals know when they’ve been saved from the lethal injection. Because they all talk at night, and they all know who’s two weeks are up.
I can’t even tell you how many dogs I’ve seen put down in one day, all laying dead on a concrete floor waiting to be disposed of. But I can tell you of the two dogs I personally rescued from there because they looked like they could use a second chance in life. And my two dogs, who both lived over ten years, we’re both mutts, and both loved me for taking them away from that horrible place. They remember! (well, I think they do.)
PapSett… That dog looks as happy as you do. That’s a great thing to see, and a great feeling to share. Congratulations!
Stink Fish Pot
Am I the only one who noticed the resemblance between you and Sugar? She has to be yours-you have the same haircolor.
Hee hee… I actually sing this to her when we’re playing! She seems amused…
Stink Fish Pot… I don’t know how you did it. I know it is important, that those dogs got to know kindness and compassion before the end, but… I just couldn’t. And I agree.. rescued dogs know. My Gordons love me without question, but they have never known a day of need. They have never been hungry or alone or afraid. Sugar has, and she lets me know how grateful she is constantly. Last night when I got home from work, she roo-ed to me, and then looked TOTALLY surprised… “Did that sound come out of ME?” It made me smile.
And psychobunny… I think Sugar is a bit more orange than I am. ![]()
So how many animals are you up to now, PapSett? Just the three? I thought there were some others as well.
The 3 Setters, a Papillon, an ancient Papillon mix I rescued and 2 cats. Yeah… full house, but they are all well cared for, happy and healthy. I wouldn’t know how to act if I wasn’t surrounded by critters!
I know EXACTLY how you feel, I failed at fostering my little doll in August - she was in terrible shape, almost died in fact, and scared of absolutely everything and everything. Not sure of her past except that she was found rolled up tight in a rug in skid row LA. I fostered her for six weeks before anybody was interested, when somebody expressed an interest I actually panicked at the thought of not having her - I absolutely could not and would not give her up. She was mine - and she wasn’t going anywhere. I have not had one second of regret, I love that little girl to death.
My family has fostered quite a few dogs that all went to loving homes, and I love doing it - but I’ve never seen anybody that needed a mom quite like my little girl.
Yay for you PapSett! You have a forever dog, and a dog has a forever home. Win for everyone!
I’m glad you found each other! Beautiful dog, congratulations.
Floppy dogs are good dogs. She’s spayed now, though, right? I recall you have an intact male.
Wait – why wouldn’t you have your dog fixed?
Because he competes in AKC shows and has to be intact. Believe me…he does not go out randomly impregnating all the neighborhood bitches.
And yes, Sugar is spayed, as are all the rest of my critters.
My sister has this same problem. She’s fostered 5 dogs. Kept 3 of them.
