If you have a biscuit, Teddy would welcome the Apocalypse.
She’s supposedly a Border Collie (that’s what the placement folks told us), but that is not a collie nose, border or otherwise. Do I care? Nahhh!
Are Aussies as wise-guy as Borders? If people ask me the difference between BCs and Aussies, I tell them an Aussie is like watching Lassie on a 9 inch TV screen.
Which made me smile because it reminded me of something else that had made me smile.
Years ago, I volunteered at an animal barn. One of the horses was… horrible. He kicked me three or four times. So I cleaned all the other stalls, dreading going into his, but when I got there, there was a little Shetland pony inside. She whinnied and nuzzled me over and over while I mucked out her stall.
The mean old horse had been permanently turned out to pasture (literally… he wasn’t made into glue or anything). The pony was a sweetheart.
We brought home Kizzy (dog #4) three months ago. From the beginning I’ve been in charge of “crate training”, taking her out regularly even over night.
We are well beyond needing the 3 am trip outside, but I’ve continued. So this morning I was outside while Kizzy quickly peed then rushed back in to go back to sleep.
But then Loki decided she wanted to see what was going on outside. I took her out and she peed, then the two of us sat on the porch steps and just sat for a spell.
When I climbed back into bed I looked at my phone and was shocked to see it was 4 am. I smiled.
I just finished it. It’s beautifully made, and quite challenging for the size. Up until i put in the last two pieces i wondered if i might be missing a piece. And a really cute image, that also made me smile.
As a gift, my friend installed a new dining room light for me and then dragged me to Lowe’s to finally order the pleated shades for my bedroom. Friends make me smile.
My wife and I got back from a weekend in Carmel, visiting her parents. We had a nice weekend together, we stayed at their place, we did some light maintenance of their house, and we enjoyed our meals and time together.
We paddled our kayaks on the Connemaugh River yesterday. Weather was perfect and the Steelers were playing, so we had the river pretty much to ourselves, as people preferred watching the game.
Observation: usually when someone starts a good-news/feel-good thread on the Dope, it is smothered by snark in just a few posts. Must be a sign of the times.
I do that too, since I’m probably up anyway. A few weeks ago, I took the dogs out in the wee hours, and they both immediately alerted to something and tried to bound down the steps. They were both leashed, so they didn’t get far.
I finally got them to pee, but I heard something creeping near the back fence. So I took the dogs back in, crated them, and got a flashlight to go see. I looked up and down the fenceline, but couldn’t find anything. Then a bird startled from the big tree, and I shined my light up there.
Three pairs of green eyes and six fuzzy ears–we have baby raccoons!
