So, what made you smile today?

Halloween decorations are going up today! Couldn’t set up my cemetery in the front yard last year because of the stupid wind. Still haven’t found all of my headstones.

Odd, I’ve not really had one today but that might be because this introvert is recovering from church and dinner with relatives I haven’t seen in years and years last night. And that produced lots of smiles. I haven’t seen much of them in the last 40 years because my dad held us distant and then he died. Well, a second cousin whom I much respected died recently and it was a bit of a surprise. He didn’t want a funeral but another cousin used the occasion to gather a group and (for once) I was available to go. It was really, really nice to catch up with them all. We all had childhood stories of the family farm to tell and much more. Lots and lots of smiles.

A vid of Roy Clark playing Malagueña. This was the man Jimi Hendrix considered to be the better guitar player.

This year’s trunk.

Oh, that’s brilliant! Those costumes are amazing!

This is so great! I wish I could party with you guys!

A new renter move in next door. When he turned on the washing machine, water came pouring out. He called the “property manager”, who, from past acquaintance, is an idiot, and the guy asked the renter: “Did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in?” I laughed out loud.

So did I! Thank you for sharing.

I saw this on my Facebook feed. Both me and Mrs. B laughed out loud - this kid looks so pleased! https://apnews.com/article/oddities-lifestyle-new-zealand-toys-d335b0b0842812d9234f0444cd441f29?fbclid=IwAR1KemTUmuSp2VXblYEIGoUV3SvXEWgGDaSoddyh-45JGuvqKluqqY8hxKU

That’s one happy kid!

Well, some of the clever snark in some of the posts in some of the political Pit threads give me a chuckle.

I, too, always appreciate well-crafted snark.

Out front of the main office at my job, there’s a baldcypress tree. And it’s the worst- the bane of our existence, especially the people who work in the main office (as I did for several years). It has sort of fine needles, which it drops in the fall. People track the needles in, the parking lot ends up buried under needles, it’s just a mess. And then, even worse, it drops these nut things, which get stuck in people’s shoes and stain the floor. Like, you can’t get it out by mopping. You have to get on your hands and knees and use a magic eraser and elbow grease and it takes ages, so through most of fall, the floor is covered in dark streaks. It’s a Thanksgiving tradition to spend most of the day scrubbing the floor because we have to be at work, but there are generally not very many walk-in customers, so it’s the only time we can really do it.

Anyway, I’ve been away from on-site work for a while because of my own health and have just been back about two weeks now. I opened the trunk of my car and there are baldcypress needles in the crack. It’s stupid, but it makes me feel like I’m back at home, where I belong.

A friend and woman I greatly admired professionally, died today. It’s not unexpected, but one can’t help but be heartbroken. However, the news led me down memory lane. She had quite a wonderful life and did some amazing things. She never forgot that I locked my keys in the rental car at a racing event, and I never forgot the book she wanted to write. We laughed at ourselves, each other, and life in general. I am so lucky to have known her. The memories will keep me smiling for some years to come.

I went to Target and when I got to the checkout, the clerk asked me if I wanted bags or wanted my stuff back in the reusable bag I had been using. I said I wanted bags- that I know they’re not the most eco-friendly option, but I use them for cat litter and I had run out. She said she understood because she also has cats.

When I got home and started unpacking my stuff, I noticed that she had stuffed a few extra bags in for me. I’m set for cat litter bags for the week!

We took Kizzy to a brewery that was having Dogoween, including a costume contest. Kizzy was a lion and came in second place. She loved it, and enjoyed going up to get her prizes.

Kizzy would have won first prize, but we both voted for a dog that we thought was too cute not to vote for.

Kizzy also got to play with kids, and she had an artist sketch a caricature.

My beloved kitty, Vienna, had been scratching and biting herself and keeping to herself, antisocially. Occupied with my own health problems, it took a few days for me to get some flea/tick treatment for her. I finally gave it to her yesterday. After sleeping throughout the night, this morning she came up to me to play. We played for a good half hour, during which she didn’t scratch herself once. Made me smile.

I gave Mayme (feline) one of her anti-anxiety meds yesterday in preparation for the random kids running up to the house for candy. Giving her the med means instead of tearing out of the room and hiding under my bed for hours, with possible growling and hissing until she’s calmed herself down, she does a jog to hide on my bed and she’s quicker to come out and be social.
She had not been medicated in a while and boy did it make her loopy. She is, for the most part, not an affectionate cat. When I was curled up in bed last night, she hopped up, started purring, nuzzled my shoulder, and curled up against me. I fell asleep with a smile.

Drove my mom to Dr for annual checkup, looks like everything is good and normal.
Went to a random Target and delighted to find rare Funkos I hadn’t seen which broke my year long hiatus of getting a Funko. At very same Target saw their Pizza Hut still sold 3 piece breadsticks which I love. Most Targets ended their PizzaHut/breadsticks on the menu. The regular Pizza Hut standalones sell just the 5 piece boxes.

I posted in the “Anxiety Inducer” thread about how I was anxious about running for re-election to council and couldn’t wait for it to be over.

I didn’t want to muck up that perfectly anxious thread with my news so I’ll post it here…

Not only did I win one of the city council 3 seats, I was the top vote-getter, beating out the 22-year-council-veteran and the very friendly retired cop (both of whom I supported, and both of whom also won a seat). I got 200 more votes than I did 4 years ago, even though 350 fewer people voted this year (54% this year versus 41% 4 years ago).

Flyin’ high. You get close to zero positive feedback during the year when you’re on council. The only way to know if people see you is at election time. People see me and I LOVE it.

(Also our contentious school board race went well, with the 3 anti-mask candidates being beaten out by the 2 people with actual education experience.)
