So, what'd you have for dinner?

Homemade American Chop Suey. My own recipe.

Went to a pretty good Mexican restaurant: Combo # Uno!

Chile relleno (cheese), and enchilada (cheese), rice, beans, and a Corona. And a big pile of chips and salsa.

But I think I’d rather visit samclem and have some of his Brunswick stew and biscuits!

Homemade meatloaf, mashed potatoes made with real butter and cream, brown gravy, string beans, and bread and butter.

Guess what I’m having for lunch tomorrow?

We were on the Upper East Side of Manhattan yesterday, and I made a point of stopping by Schaller & Weber, the grand old German butcher shop, to buy some sausage.

I asked for a half-dozen bauenwurst, a half-dozen frankfurters, and, as I didn’t see the bratwurst, asked after it.

“Ve haff two kinds…der schmoked, und der uncooked,” the butcher replied.

Hey now. You haff der UNCOOKED brats? “Jawohl…alvays.”

Well, knock me down and call me Shorty. I have never seen FRESH bratwurst outsidea Sheboygan Wisconsin. I’ll have two pounds, please.

Making a long story short, I whomped up a batch of sauerkraut this afternoon, with smoked rib bacon and onions and caraway and the remnants of a bottle of Reisling. I boiled some potatoes in chicken stock and mashed them with some schmaltz and salt and pepper. And I simmered six of the fresh brats in beer with sliced onion, and finished them off on the grill.

Even my fussy-eater daughter said “WHERE did ya get these sausages? These are GREAT!”

I need never go to Wisconsin again.

Uke: Yer a damned show-off.

I ate an entire box of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese.

steamed broccoli with balsamic vinaigrette.

cheese rits bitz and a carton of chocolate milk. i really should stop drinking milk because i have this sneaking suspicion i’m lactose intolerant.

A damn good 2lb lump of good old scotlands finest beef, roasted slow with some potatoes and carrots. Yorkshire pudding (made it myself, darn thing didn’t rise enough but tasted good), broccali, cauliflower with a cheese sauce and a very good red wine gravy made by my god of gravy making other half. All in all a good Sunday lunch (if a little late at 8pm, we got up late lol).
