So You Think You Can Dance -- SYTYCD -- Summer 2011

Nah. This is only the second season I’ve watched, and I was pretty sure it was a Sonja dance, too. I think she’s just a very idiosyncratic choreographer.

Iveta- if she’s 30 I’ll eat my hat.

I’ve seen a few of Lady Gaga’s videos and though not a real fan of her music, have always been impressed with her originality and visual style. Last night’s video was as pointless and generic as something from the early days (mid-80’s) of MTv.

IOW, Madonna’s heyday? Coincidence? I think not.

My aunt and I were watching that and she remarked, ‘‘She must have blown her budget on Judas.’’ I adore Gaga but that was a pretty freaking boring video. My aunt’s also pretty sure she had that jacket. And yes, almost certainly a homage to Madonna. I love when she gives credit where it’s due.

Our DVR cut off the last minute or saw, so Nigel was busy trying to tell the audience something (after the no-cut occurred) but we never heard what it was (even TWOP doesn’t have it in their weecap). Anyone know?

He was saying that next week two couples will be going home.

Yeah, she’s a very attractive woman in excellent shape, but she strikes me as more like 37.

I get that vibe as well.

How much do you want to bet that her partner develops a crush on her?

Brutal (but unavoidable). I was surprised they were so conflicted, because I thought based on the Dance-4-your-Life, Jordan and Robert were easily the weakest (even though the former is a terrific dancer generally and the latter did a fantastic job with the jive). They’re also the two who may realize that the personalities they’re trying to embody (young hottie, Woo-jokester) have a short shelf life if they don’t deliver the goods dance-wise. We’ll see…

I agree that Robert was the weakest (despite my liking him) but I don’t think they felt they could have sent him home seeing as how William didn’t perform. Now, I don’t think William faked his injury, but I don’t think the judges want to give anyone any ideas for the future.

As for tonight’s, I enjoyed the Bollywood number and Robert’s (it’s obvious Nigel really hates ‘Wooo’). I also liked the prison number at the end. It was very different. I don’t get the love for short-haired girl and guy who got shot. I mean, they’re good, but they don’t do it for me.

God help me, I can’t stop watching the dance routines on this show. Count on trusty old Youtube to let me catch up on all I’ve missed.

Nigel needs to stop talking about how the female dancers are all beasts this year. We get it already. Half the guys are like bboys or hiphop dancers, and I guess throw in a tap dancer and Broadway dancer - obviously they make up a weaker group. The other thing - are the judges getting less constructive and more effusive with their praise? Did I seriously hear a judge gush over how a dancer executed a port de bras?

To be honest, only one dancer catches my attention…

Loved Ryan and Ricky – somewhat to my surprise, they were among my least favorites last week. I like Marco and Melanie, but I don’t think they deserve such clear front-runner status.

What a hoot seeing Debbie Reynolds. She didn’t have much to say, but what the hell, it was great to see her.

The “tell us something embarrassing” thing was just stupid and cringeworthy.

I wondered the same thing. It seems like a lot of gushing. Debbie Reynolds is expected to be the nice judge who loves everything, but shouldn’t the others be pointing out things to work on? Are the dancers just that wonderful this time?

See, I thought Nigel was a lot harder this week than he usually is. I really thought Wadi was going to cry.

Nah, that’s just what tanning booths will do to you, kids. I’ve noticed that overtanning is chronic in the ballroom pros, most women look well beyond their years, like Florida retirees.

Bummer, wish I’d voted last night – I’d’ve voted for Nick and Iveta. Sorry to see them go so soon.

If it makes you feel better, chances are your vote wouldn’t have changed much.

I think it’s interesting that NONE of the dancers at risk last week were in the bottom 3 this week.

I wonder if it means their fans were energized to vote – or are the early votes more about the luck of the draw? Who gets the interesting dances, who gets the ones that are boring?

Of course the only ballroom dancer gets voted off. I love the show, but I wish it wasn’t so contemporary dancer heavy.

Of course not – but I’d feel better.
