Nick and Iveta kinda got shafted.
Yeah, I’m suprised at their choices of who to save. I mean, for the girls they had nothing but good things to say about the two they kicked off, and said Ryan had a lot of work to do…and kept her? My problem with her is every single dance she has a huge smile on her face. I get it, you like dancing. But when you’re dancing to a song called “Moving Mountains”, which is about the destruction of a relationship, I doubt you should look happy.
I really liked Nick, sad to see him go. I dislike Ricky because he’s one of those guys that cries at everything, and I find that annoying. I think that’s one of the reasons why I liked the Russian so much. She had her emotions in check.
Yeah, agree with both of you. The third couple, whoever they were, were obvious bumps – but of the other two couples, I’d’ve kept Nick and Iveta over Ryan and Ricky, if only to promote genre diversity. And acknowledge that maturity has value.
Ding ding ding! This. In spades. She’s a good dancer, but a bad performer because she only has one mood, one expression. All you had to do is compare Ricky’s facial mannerisms to hers in their last number to realize how bad she is at calibrating anything interesting in her emotional interpretation. And I didn’t think her Solo was special either. Missy I liked more in general, but she went for the hootchie-mama solo, which is a miscalculation. I would’ve kept Iveta and Wadi (whose solo impressed me far more than Ricky’s), though that would’ve been a death pairing for both in the long run.
All bottom 3 pairs last week really dodged a bullet by being given a week reprieve. I’m inclined to think it’s more based on numbers than personalities at this point, but that’s mostly because few really stand out as of yet (for me, at least). Also gotta say, that opening number (clearly based on The Thomas Crown Affair) had enormous potential but was pretty dismal.
Finally caught up on last week’s shows. Not for nothin’, but I think Cat is preggers.
Why do you think that?
I said the same thing to the kids last week. She keeps putting her hand on her stomach in a way that looks very familiar to me.
In last week’s eps her face looked a little… off. She’s still beautiful but something wasn’t right. At first I thought it was just a bad makeup job but on Thursday’s show she looked a little, I don’t know, puffy. And her dress sort of clung to her belly. She’s a stick, so unless they have her start wearing mumus, it will soon be obvious if I’m wrong.
I spent a fair amount of time staring and Kat’s stomach, and at her hands to see if they were touching, caressing, or cradling her stomach.
Nada.
BTW – do we know if Jean-Marc and France got divorced or what?
I didn’t notice any stomach touching either.
1: What was the song for the piano piece?
2: Lil’ C is all over Sonja’s dick
3: I hate Lil’ C. He’s so annoying. The guest judge was poetic without being incomprehensible.
4: Sonja’s first piece was boring.
5: I loved Robert’s and his partner’s.
M&M rock!
Melanie is my ‘crush’ this year. Not too surprising, though, because she looks freakishly similar to my wife.
The real stars of the evening were Tabitha and Napoleon. Both the Melanie & Marko routine and the Jordan & Tadd routine were superb. None of the other dances rose above mediocre. It could be the dancers, because those four plus Robert are the only standouts thus far.
Often, my wife and I will have to re-watch dances because we each get different impressions based on which partner we watched. For this one, I was watching Robert, and he was really good; she was watching Miranda, and she wasn’t.
Thinking back to last week, it was a mistake to keep Ryan and dump Iveta. Ricky danced for his life, true, but I don’t see what they see in Ryan.
I preferred Iveta too, but I honestly don’t think she could’ve done what Ryan did last night. I thought that was easily their best number together, though I still don’t care for either much. I also thought it strange they never showed a close-up of her face (the camera will usually get close enough once in a while), since she has a propensity to smile at times that are inappropriate.
I thought the foxtrot was charming and the latin number was good, too–though NappyTab did indeed steal the show. And those two group numbers? Beyond blah.
I only made it through 1/2 of the show before falling asleep- not a commentary on the show, just on my insomnia- but the 1st Nappy Tabs routine was great. Sonia’s piece sucked all the life out of the room. Iveta was (is) a great dancer, but I don’t find her appealing at all, and I think the voters and judges felt the same way.
I didn’t see anything in Cat that supports my belief that she’s pregnant, either. We’ll see… it was a fairly loose dress last night.
I don’t get the Robert love. I just find him annoying. Also, I don’t miss Iveta one bit, but I do wish Nick had stuck around a bit longer.
Last night, I liked Melanie and Marko, as well as Jess and Clarice. The foxtrot just looked like fun.
I love Jess, but the fact that he’s not big enough to do a lift that makes me anything but nervous that he’s going to drop his partner is gonna do him in.
Just got a chance to watch the first hour. Corkboard is right, Cat is preggers.
I thought the first one was OK, but only OK.
I forgot to say earlier that when the recording stopped, Uncle Buck was playing on whatever channel the DVR reverted to.
I do not agree with who they sent home. I really liked Robert and other Girl. I wish they would have sent home the contemporary dance, although that may be just because I’m biased against male contemporary dancers.
I loved loved LOVED the ballroom dance. The strength of both of them was just insane. To be able to do those tricks and, more importantly, make them look seamless and fluid, is amazing.
Holy crap those lifts put the contestants to shame. Ade is the only show dancer I can imagine having the strength for that.
I liked Robert, and Miranda was cute, but ultimtely they are part of the herd to be culled.
I think they gave Ashley and Chris a break because their choreography was so bad last night. I’m glad Nigel’ll call the choreographer out if what they do is subpar.
I really don’t think we’ll ever see a Russian dance again. Between Phillip and Jeanne’s horrid one a couple of years ago and the lackluster professional, yeah. No bueno.
