I really enjoyed the Paso Doble routine. However, I thought it was sort of silly when they were fawning over him with the comments “Wow, we brought you on here because of your mad martial-arts inspired dancing skills, but who thought you could pull off a Paso Doble?” Not to take anything away from him, because I do think that is the best Paso Doble I’ve seen on there, but that particular dance was designed for him — it is essentially a martial arts dance. His sharp, precise movements were very reminiscent of a tae kwon do master moving through a form — it’s entirely within his wheelhouse.
Interesting to watch everyone dance without knowing who the bottom three (six) were, though the judges did. Like that they talked to the choreographers, etc., to get more context instead of deciding the whole thing in three minutes flat.
So both male ballet dancers were up to be cut, and one was. Interesting. And Alexa, having made it onto the show, is sent home immediately. Wish I felt worse about that.
Of last night’s dances, I thought “My Girl” was ridiculously easy and uninteresting. Glitch was way out of his league with the jive – having made whatever point was being made to bring him on the show, can we let him go home now? Loved the foxtrot and the Broadway routine – some very cool tricks in the latter. Didn’t think Amber was way amazing in the tango, but at least she gets a new partner now, we’ll see how she does next week.
Love Adam as a judge – his comments are relevant and helpful – but he was a little phony last night, not just in promoting “Step Up.” (No mention of “Rock of Ages” though, hm.)
The kids sent home at least got a good amount of time on the show. In addition to all of Vegas Week, they had three episodes of live performances (over a, including their intro dance, four group routines, and two dances with their partner, before going home. That’s better than one pair, one group and one solo that previous dancers got.
I really liked Glitch’s energy and effort on the jive. Much better than the flat and dull foxtrot.
Rock of Ages is weeks old, practically out of theaters. But anyway, Adam is a good judge, and I wouldn’t miss Mary one bit. She’s the main reason I skip forward though almost all the citicism.
Is no one else watching, or does everyone just not have anything to say?
I’m having a hard time getting into it this season – the one week off, two weeks on, two weeks off thing doesn’t help.
My fiancee and I are watching, but we have had the same issue this season - we blow through the weekly two hour episode in 30-40 minutes (thank you DVR!), then sort of forget about it. I don’t think there have been that many standout early performances (or dancers, for that matter), which hasn’t helped things. I do think the hip-hop that closed out this week’s episode was the best of the night.
I might not be the best judge, though; I could quite happily go the rest of my natural life without watching another contemporary routine. I also think Amelia is a good dancer and enjoy watching her dance, but her normal Amelie-look (irrationally) annoys me.
YES.
Her whole personality just comes across to me as an affectation, and it’s extremely grating.
I also am having a hard time getting into this season, and I don’t think I ever got into last season at all.. but I did really enjoy the Wild Horses routine from last night (don’t ask me anybody’s name). I’ll finish out this season, but if ends without any real standout routines or dancers, I may not be back again.
Yeah. Nothing’s really stood out for me, nor has anything been worthy of substantial commentary. Nothing in the last episode made me go
“oooh… lovely!”, or even go to the website to check out what music was playing.
I mean, I like the contestants well enough, and I have a few favorites, but not enough enthusiasm to actually vote for them.
Double posting mayhem.
Glad I’m not the only one who feels this way.
I really like Cole. He seems to be able to handle whatever gets thrown at him. As far as the rest, eh… I can’t really pick a favorite. They’re all good dancers but I’ve yet to see anything extraordinary.
I keep meaning to vote, but… meh.
I’m in agreement with everyone else, except I like Amelia. Other than that, olives is spot on about Cole. He’s very talented and does the requisite acting necessary to truly inhabit the part. Beyond those, I was pulling for Cyrus to be this season’s Legacy, but I’m just not seeing it yet. I’d like for them to test him in a style other than his own because that’s what the show is all about. So, c’mon guys! It’s time.
The rest all blend together, pretty much. The big guy sort of stands out and I was surprised Mandy had routines without 80s songs. I missed them. Loved Christina Applegate, though. She’s always amazing.
I love Christina Applegate. She knows what she’s talking about. I really like Amelia, but this week was rather boring.
I enjoyed Witney. I get her and her friend Lindsay mixed up. Chehon is great and so is George. Eliahna is a great dancer, but she doesn’t have the it factor. Not for me anyway.
I liked the Robot, but it played to his strength.
Kung Fu Dancing was awesome, I thought.
I like both blonde girls, and not just because they’re pretty, but because they seem to feel their dances.
Pale Ale Girl is beginning to wear thin for me, as is Tiny Mexican Guy.
I’ll look up their real names later.
Cat, Cat — are they making you pick your wardrobe out of the dumpster these days?
I didn’t really care for the opening bondage fantasy number. It seemed more gimmicky than good.
Broke my heart to see Amelia sent home. Bad choice, judges!
Yeah, I was a little surprised by that choice. On the other hand, the person who stayed in that decision had a much better solo.
So, is Mia dying or something?
I agree! Love her and her choice of solo to Falling Slowly was gorgeous. I am frankly tired of Ballroom Samba Solos in pink fringe.
I don’t think so, but she does look like she’s had a fair amount of plastic surgery done.
Anyone know who the woman sitting next to her was?
Tyce?
Yikes, what a terrible idea for an episode. All the routines paled next to the original versions. I ended up spending half of each routine thinking about how much I wanted to look the original up on YouTube.
