Yeah, there just was no real excitement this season. For me, the main, *MAIN *distraction is that I want to see the dancers dance. Every routine is broken up by quick camera motions, quick cuts to the audience, quick swoopy-circles around the stage, etc. I’d be happy if they just put one camera center stage, and let me see the full range of movement of the routine.
Secondly, every routine had the female-falls-back-guy-catches-head move, or the woman leaping off the guy’s back. Its just uninspiring.
Dancing doesn’t have to tell a story, or be full of heartbreak and soul-rending. Cyrus had a great time with the Jazz dance, because they were joyful with what they had. Benjy was back, and brought excitement. I don’t need stories about fighting addiction and sufering. Jeez, have fun for a change.
Stop taking yourself so damn seriously, SYTYCD. Try going back to having fun.
I’ve been enjoying it, but they’ve made voting the most irrelevant it has ever been. The judges have had the lockdown on deciding who gets eliminated for the whole run, and the prior-week voting has stripped even the sham drama of its drama. It is literally now “America’s favorite of two selected dancers!” I’m voting for Nader on this one
Everything looked so much better on the small stage that they used to use, with the staircase in the back. I thought those stairs were frequently overused, but I would happily take them back if it meant getting back the smaller, more intimate, easier-to-film stage.
Boring season, for the reasons everyone has been outlining.
Given that they lost their results show, they had to make some differences – I’m not sure the changes they made were the right ones. I was thinking last night, though, that it’s nice for the dancer to get one extra chance to dance after their fate has been decided. Since a lot of this is about exposure, that’s got to be something they like.
Have been liking a lot of the all-stars – who doesn’t love Twitch? – and it was esp. delightful to see Benjy last night.
Re: last night’s show – Chehon got royally screwed by having to dance a cha-cha. It seems profoundly unfair to make one partner dance in the other partner’s genre, though Witney wasn’t exactly brilliant herself. But damn, those lifts were really ugly, I really thought he was going to drop her a couple of times.
For those who haven’t completely given up (damn my stubbornness), remember that the show now moves to Tuesday for the last two weeks.
Chehon is so good at what he does. But what isn’t in his repertoire, he royally sucks at it. Cyrus, otoh, is at least passable in all the non animator stuff they give him. He tries, and he does pretty good, imho. At least he’s fun to watch.
I would have rather seen Cole (Mr Judo Chop) go to the next show with Cyrus. If this season is going to be different, make it really different.
The two girls (all the girls, really) are interchangeable.
The format sucks. Go back to the previous two eps a week format.
Just finished watching last weeks episode. There were some very good numbers. I think as a whole episode, this is one of the ones I enjoyed the most this season. I am sorry that Cole was sent home. I was thinking it would be Chehon.
I am ready for the season to be over, though, and I’m don’t really care who wins, but I’m sticking it out. I hope they change the format back.
I agree - go back to the two-night format. While they’re at it, they can make the results show 30 minutes, and pad the hour with a New Girl or Raising Hope repeat. (I have a feeling the reason they don’t is, they don’t want people thinking that NG or RH would be on Thursdays when the new season begins in the fall.)
Is one of the producers related to someone in District 78? I don’t know if District 78 is an actual music group, but it seems like almost every episode this year has had at least one dance to a song by or remixed by them.
