I haven’t been to the new Barney’s Beanery, though I’ve been to the original one in West Hollywood a number of times, and to the one on the Third Street Prominade once. I’m pretty underwhelmed by the food, which is about on par with Chili’s, Applebee’s, et cetera; I think the appeal is the hipster clientele. (Allegedly, Quentin Tarantino frequents the one in West Hollywood, though I’ve never seen him there.) From what I’ve heard, Houstan and Fattal (the new owners) plan to turn it into a corporate chain and put them all over metro L.A. and beyond. Once they cross the Orange Curtain, it’s all over.

I’m in Rancho Bernardo on business, but I work from 9-5 or I’d haul myself up to the OC to hang out for a bit. I hoped to make a West Coast Dopefest while I was out here too, damn.

I’m probably out, unless it’s later in the evening (sixish or after), owing to my responsibility to [del]spend budget on a hopeless, dead-end program[/del]preserve our national defense infrastructure. Next time, perhaps.

Holy crap! It’s today in Pasadena? How did I miss this thread? :frowning:

This is the first time I have the personal freedom (just moved out of parents’ house) to make it to a Dopefest, too. That said, I’m broke as nobody’s business, just turned 20 (so no pubbery for me) and would need gas money and/or carpooling. Can we do this again sometime in October or November, with at least a portion of it at an all-ages establishment (or maybe even 18-up, like a hookah lounge or something)? I can probably convince my roommate to pay for gas then. :smiley:

Given that it’s 1630 and nobody has yet stated a time, I’m going to guess that this isn’t happening. How about some time in late October or November? (Pasadena? Barney’s? It seems adequately central and accessible, but I’m open to other suggestions that don’t involve scaling the Curtain or driving out to the Evil Empire.) Anybody want to toss out a date and time that we can play with and bat around like a group of kittens with a rubber band?

Oh, and fetus, Barney’s is a pub & grill-type of place; we can get you a kiddie menu. :wink:

Just glad I checked the board before I headed up to Barney’s. And fetus, I suspect that by the time this thing gets off the ground, you’ll be legal.
