Where is the line between antisocialism and misanthropy?
It’s right between eating luke-warm Ramen in your underwear while reading the SDMB and clipping your toenails while watching Johnny Carson reruns on Trio.
For me? Right about five minutes into a trip to a trendy mall.
Really though there is a huge line separating the two. Not all anti-socialites are misanthropes and not all misanthropes are anti-social (strange that, eh?).
I think someone who continually pursues anti-social behavior and has minimal to no interaction with other people would have a much easier time falling into misanthropic tendencies than would someone that interacts even semi-regularly with others.
Anti-social behavior is wishing people would just let you be so you could be in company you’re comfortable with. Misanthropy is wishing California would just fall into the ocean already so you could revel in the fact that millions of dolts will no longer bother you.
The exact line, I suppose then, is when you go from not minding being alone to not minding if everyone died, leaving you alone.
“Anti-social” in our society means I attended fewer parties in the last six months than you did. It is a handy negative lable for those of us who don’t enjoy crowds.
A misanthrope is someone who hates people even one at a time.
