**Swampy **-- sorry for your loss. Sounds like you guys are all Closet Jews, though – joking at the wake!
**Annie **-- Good news about you husbands, yikes! about the accident.
Everybody else what needs cheering up and pats on the back – I haven’t retained, sorry… Just help yourself to some hugs and good thoughts from the pile over there!
Morning! Up. That’s about all. Daughter is practicing trombone in the other room. She’s getting good, but I am so sick of hearing the same songs over and over and over and…
We had an interesting night last night. Hubby has type 2 diabetes, and some of the meds he has to take during chemo shoot his BG through the roof. I had to call the on-call doc last night because his BG shot up to 428. That is highly unusual. I told the doc what kind of chemo he’s on, what meds and dosage he’s taking, and what his fasting, 1 hour and 2 hour postprandial BGs were. I think he was surprised that I used the term postprandial. (For any that don’t know, it’s after eating.)
He’s on prednisone, and we have to keep him on the prednisone because it’s part of the chemo. I did not want to take him to the ER last night unless we had to. I told the doc we have insulin here, and I asked if I could give him some. After we discussed, he said I could give him 5 units, and he called in a prescription for his own insulin. I borrowed 5 units of our daughters insulin to get him through, since it was so late. It did the job.
So now I have two people with diabetes to watch like hawks.
Dang, Annie! Good thoughts going out to you and yours. That’s scary stuff there.
Back from house-looking. We saw 4. Two of them really sucked - one was in a horrible-looking neighborhood and almost as soon as we walked in, we decided to walk out. Hint - don’t expect much from a house when there’s a full dumpster in the front yard. Other sucky place looked like someone had sorta tried to do some home improvements, but they either didn’t know what they were doing or didn’t really care. Anyway, it was a disaster.
The one I linked to earlier had promise. But the one she really liked was this one. It’s way at the top of her budget, but the only thing it needs, besides some paint, is carpet in one bedroom. The rest of the floors are hardwood or vinyl. The carpet in the front bedroom was torn out and the floor underneath is horrible. But it has a back deck and .68 acre lot. The kitchen is tiny, but she’s not much of a cook. The furnace looks to be about 10 years old. The roof looks good, and the crawlspace is dry.
The house is part of an estate and the family is just trying to get rid of it, including some of the furniture inside. Daughter is mentally moving in already… She’s started applying for a mortgage and we told her we’d cosign if that would help her secure financing. We’ll probably give her a chunk of change towards a downpayment. She doesn’t know that yet. So don’t tell!
Anyway, I didn’t get any yard work done. Guess I’ll try when I come home tomorrow. Plans for tonight - lots of knitting.
The bedrooms are small, but she’s talking about making one of them a walk-in-closet/dressing room. And the living room has an alcove that’s perfect for use as an office. And the dining room, which is obviously an addition in the back, has a cathedral ceiling and a skylight.
It would be a good first home for her, but there are a few more we want to look at. It’s a start, tho, and the realtor is really great. BBBobbio, if you do move this way, I’ll hook you up with her!
I have painted 2 doors today and some trim mr ems has painted some more cabinet doors and I am now headed to try to get the hard water stains off the walk in shower doors in the Masterbath while he is working on sanding down some doors outside.
Annie wow! Hope everything stays ok with your husband.
Here’s the scenario I see with daughter movin’ out and BBBobbio movin’ to where MOOOOOOM is. Since there is a basement apartment, I think it would be the perfect for BBBobbio, Vunderwife and the dawgs to move! It’d be perfect! Don’t y’all agree?
Today I have deheathenated ( there were two baptisms), had lunch, napped, been to Dollar General and the grocery sto’, pealed and parboiled sweet N.O.T. for sweet N.O.T. pies and washed and got a bunch of collard greens ready to cook. Thus beginneth Turkey Day preparations.
Today was Testosterone Day. The Boys wanted to get some fahrwood so we went over to Irish Brother’s house. There are many fallen trees in the woods next to his house that he would love us to get rid of. So we took a trip to the Home Despot to get a saw. The Boys played with the saw all the way to Irish Brother’s house and then they and Irish Brother gathered around and admired the craftsmanship before The Boys went into the woods to try it out. It saws just fine. There is now a fahr in the fahrplace and the apartment is toasty warm.
Speaking of Irish Brother, he’s turned in his pink card. He and Moody Friend broke up for the second and final time. Irish Brother reconnected with an old college friend (female), there were sparks, and they’ve decided that they want to be A Couple. This has caused huge waves in our small pond of friendships. Most people were totally gobsmacked. Me? If he’s happy, I’m happy. He hasn’t been happy in a long time and he is now. That’s good enough for me.
No one has volunteered yet for tomorrow, swampy. If no one else jumps in, I might get us started out.
We were going to work in the garden today because it was the last really nice day, it looked like. But then Local Best Friend called and said they were going to one of the local parks for a hike and did we want to come. We did. It was fun. The day was gorgeous and it was a nice trail, first through some prairie (past a lake) then through some woods. The boys (both dads and kids) threw a football back and forth pretty much the whole way (we walked about 3 1/2 miles or so, I’d guess), discovered some Osage oranges along the path which they kicked around and eventually smashed, and generally horsed around. The girls (LBF, her 3-year old and I) wandered along, trying not to get beaned by the football. Her daughter is a hoot; she’s obsessed by maps (we blame Dora the Explorer). She had to pause to read the map multiple times and became quite irate when Mom folded it one more time than was legal.
So, now brother has taken nephew home and I’m hanging out, doing laundry and knitting. Oh, and I watched a movie online. Yes, my life is exciting.
Back after a bit.
ETA: Wow, Spaz! Lots going on there. Glad Irish Brother is happy.
And I forgot to send good wishes along to the Onimouses. Hope hubby’s glucose stays stable.
So, the one cashier who made it in today spent her whole shift throwing up on the bathroom floor. Thus went dogbutler’s Sunday. Only 40 more hours of work till Thanksgiving.
