I guess things went alright at the CU, although we couldn’t get my daughter a new card on the spot because they had already shipped out a new one. It should take seven to ten days. In the meantime, she’s screwed for access to her funds unless she drives to the CU. This is not convenient, as there aren’t any branches close to where she lives. We did get the dispute form filled out, and hopefully, they’ve already provisionally credited her money back until their “investigation” is complete.
While I was there, I put a little money in her savings account so she doesn’t get dinged for not having the minimum in there. It’s too late for this month, but hopefully, next month, she’ll be alright. It wasn’t much, but it brought her over the minimum required and it was cash so it instantly credited to her account.
I meant to stop at my bank and get some cash for two reasons; to really bulk up her account, and to give her some cash for gas and other requirements. However, after the credit union, we went on a hunt for Sweet Red paprika, and in the course of visiting several stores, it completely slipped our minds.
When we got home, I gave her the cash I had left in my wallet (about 20 bucks). I also bought her a Harry Potter ticket online so she didn’t have to use her cash for that.
I made a new recipe last night that utilized the sweet red paprika. It was some kind of chicken in a cream sauce. It turned out pretty well, although I’m thinking I plan to tweak the sauce slightly.
I have lots of chores to do today before people come over this evening. I had planned on getting the majority of the chores done yesterday, but ended up hanging out with my daughter instead.
I just don’t deal with teh stoopid. Seriously, I just got off the phone with somebody who made the comment that she was worried she wouldn’t get to the church early enough this afternoon to get “her” seat. My suggestion was that she should go ahead, get dressed and get on over to the church now so she can make sure she gets “her” seat. Oh, and I ended that suggestion with “dumbass”.
I know where she sits in church. How bad a person would I be if’n I were to get there early just so I could sit there? A part of me wants to do that. A part of me knows that Ron would be gigglin’ uncontrolably if I did cause, like me, with him juvenile and humor go together.
Part of me says you should. IMHO, anyone who won’t go to church or gets in a huff if they don’t have “their seat” needs to rethink the reason they go to church.
Ya know Annie waaaaaaaaaay back when folks actually did have their “own pews” cause they or their family bought 'em. I just happen to know that she did not buy “her” seat. Folks are funny about stuff like that.
Speakin’ of folks are funny ‘bout stuff I had to apologize to OYKW a while ago cause I skeeved him out. I forget how much he does not want to talk about death and funerals. It doesn’t bother me so I tend to get a little glib about it from time to time. I was tellin’ him about readin’ about people “lying in repose”. This is when the dearly deceased is propped on sump’n like a chaise lounge for a viewin’. I said I thought it’d be a good idea to set up a buffet in an adjoinin’ room so it’d be like dinner and a show. That skeeved him. I am a bad bear.
swampy, you *are *a bad bear, but I’m pretty sure that’s what we like about you. OYKW probably would not have been amused at my dad’s viewing when my youngest sister suggested Dad should be wearing a T-shirt that said “I died and all I got was this lousy t-shirt!” We had a good giggle, and we knew full well Dad would have been laughing, too.
We’ve had a busy morning. After breakfast, **FCD **and I were going to finish installing the lights in and outside the new screen room. There’s one under the porch inside the screened area and two outside aimed into the woods where Cozmo does his morning constitutional. So daughter no longer needs to take him outside with a flashlight. Anyway, we were short a few random items, so we headed to Lowe’s. Then he dropped me off at WalMart while he ran to his office to pick up some papers. I got the stuff I needed and waited all of maybe 2 minutes for him to return.
Sadly, our WalMart caters to individuals who seem unable to count to 20… I’m not one to make a snit about 22 items, but when you have 8 full bags, you’ve pretty much exceeded the express line limit. I was stuck behind one, and I saw one in the adjacent line. Idiots…
While we were headed out, we swung by 2 houses for sale that are close to us. One was really cute - listed for $80K. It needs work, like new windows and new siding, but the roof looks decent and what little we could see thru the windows wasn’t bad. Daughter is supposed to be calling a realtor to set up a viewing. The property is appraised at $176K on the tax rolls, and it’s bank owned. Unless the inspection turns up major problems, it’s got real potential.
I’ve got leftover poke roast simmering in Sonny’s BBQ sauce - we’re gonna have poke BBQ sammiches for supper. With N.O.T. tots and something green - maybe sugar snap peas. It smells yummerrific in her already. Meanwhile, I’m doing laundry. I was going to mow/mulch but I just don’t feel like it. So I’ll do that tomorrow.
As expected the church was packed out! SRO even. We ran out of chairs. It was a very nice full on Episcopal funeral. YP gave a fantastic Homily, full of humor about Ron and also lots of sadness at his untimely passing. It was great because there were several LOL moments. Ron would approve.
Lasagna rollups are settin’ out to knock the chill off before placin’ in the oven. I don’t like to take stuff straight from the fridge to the oven. Garlic bread is all ready to place in the oven. Folks are comin’ at five for adult beverages and a munchie of cheese and crackers. I’m glad I did not call it off. I think it’ll be good to be around people this evenin’. Good for both of us.
Glad the funeral went so well, swampy. I think that really helps most people who have experienced a loss.
We made some pretty birds at the park, then I came home, went to the nearby craft fair, then we went on a major shopping odyssey: Great Harvest, Pepperidge Farm Outlet, supermarket, Whole Foods. Given various coupons and offers, I wound up spending just over $100, with close to $50 in discounts. Yay!
Now we’ve had a bit of dinner (we snacked quite a bit while shopping) and I’m doing laundry and generally putting stuff away. Exciting Saturday, chez GT.
Today will be a house-hunting day - at least part of the time. Daughter got in touch with the nice realtor who helped us find this place. She’s got 3 places on the list, including the 2 we drove by yesterday. I like looking at houses, and I thought at one time of becoming a realtor, but I decided I didn’t want to give up my nights and weekends. Anyway, I’m very interested in the one housein particular…
The realtor won’t be here till late morning/early afternoon, so I’m hoping I’ll have enough time to at least run the sucker/mulcher in the front yard. But I need to buy a can of gas first. And, you know, get dressed and all. It’s chilly and I don’t want to be riding the mower in my robe and slippers. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
It hit me this morning that this is a 3-day week. Yay! I may even make it a 2 or 2.5 day week. I’ve got pies to bake and eggs to devil, and I’d prefer not to be rushed while I do all that. Plus not a lot is going on at work. And I’ve got tons of leave available. We shall see…
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffienated and all brekkied. Is it mean that at 6:45 AM I woke OYKW from a sound slumber with the smell of burly butcher bacon? I was hongry!
MOOOOOOM that house looks like it’s had some updates, especially the kitchen. Looks like a nice sized yahd too. I like lookin’ at houses. Sometimes just for the heck of it I’ll go check out open houses on a Sunday afternoon. Where else would I have ever had the ummm… opportunity to see a kitchen with pink and white plaid wallpaper. Seriously. The horror!
Rebo can’t believe I left this out but her “seat” was reserved for family. HEE! OYKW and I got a small case of the giggles and had to explain to our pew buddies (two sisters who are a hoot and a half!) why. This gave them a small case of the giggles. I like to think that Ron also had a case of the giggles. She had to sit in the pew behind “her seat” and could only gaze longingly upon it, poor thing!
I’d be ashamed of myself if’n I had any shame.
Ok, I need to do stuff, I reckon. Stuff like purtify for deheathenization and I suppose empty the dishwasher. That is just such a chore for me! Maybe I should go all sad puppy dawg eyes on OYKW and get him to do it.
**swampy **- from tax records, I see the house had sold in April for $160K. But a few months later, the owners changed from a couple to just a woman (same unusual first name, different last name) which leads me to believe someone got a house in a divorce. Now the owner is listed as the finance company, so apparently the ex-wife just walked away. But one listing that I read said the bathroom and kitchen were recently remodeled, so that’s promising.
The windows, however, are crap - they all need to be replaced. The siding is wood - not in bad shape at the moment, but still, it should be vinyl. The roof looks decent. There’s a shed in the back, but it looks iffy. On the other hand, the assessment on the county site is around $176K, so it’s promising. If she’s interested, she will get it inspected. It’s little - 960 sq ft - but it’s just her and a cat and a dog. Less to clean, less to heat, and affordable. Promising…
Sounds like that could be a really good deal for your daughter, FCM. I’ll keep all the usual appendages crossed.
Heh. The pew situation made me chuckle.
Am up and cinnamon rolls (of the whomp variety) are in the oven.
Then it’s off to church, then out to the garden, I think, as it’s supposed to be 65 Merkun degrees today and it looks like it’ll be the last rain-free day of Indian summer. Looks like we’ll have several hard frosts in a row starting Friday or so. Guess I should finish cutting down perennials and such.
I don’t know what HOA is, but those rectangles below the windows? My guess is there is a small a/c in each of them. Not central air, but better than nothing.
It’s a cute little house, the key word being little, but I’m sure FCDaughter while be happy there. Close enough to FCM for frequent visits, far enough away for privacy.
Up and preparing to head to Starbucks for the all important coffee infusion.
swampy I need to empty my dishwasher also to which I hate doing.
Then today will be more painting. Hopefully we can get another coat on the new door trim outside today as it poured with rain all day yesterday. Very unusual here in central CA.
I braved Toys R Us yesterday and it was chaos but there was no way I was going there next weekend. At least my Godkids are sorted for Christmas. I am almost done with Christmas. I need a few more stocking stuffers for my sister and mr ems which I will tackle this week.
The little rectangles are just painted trim. There are no window units in this house, and near as I can figure, it’s oil heat. but it’s small enough that a couple of window units should do fine. Plus ceiling fans, of course.
And it’s maybe 3 miles from us, maybe 4, so if she gets that one, it’ll be easy for us to help her do the fix-up work. Which is good. And no HOA is a major criterion. She’s learned from our experiences that HOAs are a pain in the patoot.
Her realtor called while we were coming home from breakfast - she’s got 4 places for us to see in about an hour.
When I woke up this morning, it was snowing. It’s quit, but we’ve got a light “skiff” of snow on the ground.
I don’t have any real plans for today. I may brave the grocery store to pick up the remainder of stuff I need for turkey day. I’m making a turkey since my son has to work at 5:45 in the evening that day. That means I’ll have to be up damn early. I picked up a turkey yesterday, when I made a mad dash to the store for some munchies.
I hope your daughter finds something she likes,** FCM**. The house you posted about does look promising, though. Is she into yardwork and spending a a lot of time doing it?
rosie, HOA stands for Homeowners Association. They’re a pain in the ass. You pay money to people who are usually a bunch of assholes and don’t seem to do anything with the money other than take people to court who are late on their dues.
Heh. I had to close up the house and turn on the AC because it’s already 80°.
Swampy - maybe that will teach her! I don’t blame y’all for snickering.
Mom, that’s a cute little house! Perfect for a starter house. What are you going to do with the basement apartment in your house?
I’ve finally finished my grocery list and menu. Now I’m trying to get over an upset tummy so I can go to the store. Sometimes my diabetes medication causes nausea.
I hate emptying the dishwasher, too. That’s Dad’s one and only household chore. It makes him feel useful, and I don’t have to do it! Win-win.
