I’m trying very hard to remember a song from the late 90s. It’s an alternative song with a female singer, kind of melancholy. I don’t really remember any lyrics but I think she says something about waiting for a stupid man who doesn’t understand her and maybe something about being on her knees.
Any help or leads would be tremendously appreciated.
Fade into You - Mazzy Star
Stupid Girl - Garbage
Not an Addict - K’s Choice
Angel - Massive Attack
6 Underground - Sneaker Pimps
All is Full of Love - Bjork
Lot More - Portishead
Its not any songs that have been mentioned. I know it sounds so very 90s chick rock cliche. I even went through every performer who played the Lilith Fair.
The melody was very basic I don’t remember much about the rhythm. I want to say it was kind of acoustic. It didn’t have as much instrumentation as the songs that have been mentioned so far.
Maybe A Sorta Fairytale by Tori Amos? Except she never specifically says the guy is stupid or anything about being on her knees. Then again I really have no idea what she’s singing about in that song but it sounds purdy.
In the Arms of an Angel - Sarah Maclachlan?
“It’s easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
This glorious sadness that brings me to my knees”
I May Know the Word Lyrics - Natalie Merchant?
“If I’m on my knees, I’m begging now
If I’m on my knees gropin’ in the dark”
Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee - Indigo Girls?
Good God man! Are you going to make us Google the term “knee” for every 90s female alternative singer songwriter?!
Going this route, my guess would be Imbruglia’s “Big Mistake” (which was not released as a single in the US, so it could be considered ‘obscure’):
"Close your eyes
think of all the bubbles of love we made
and you’re down on your knees
it’s too late.
Oh don’t come crawlin’
and you lie by my feet.
what a big mistake. "
To the OP: is there anything else you can remember at all about it? Can you describe her voice at all? What made you think of it or why you liked it?
"Would you mind if I pretended we were somewhere else
Doin’ something we wanted to?
‘Cause all this livin’ makes me wanna do
Is die 'cause I can’t live with you
And you don’t even care. "
…
Chorus:
“I’m weak in the knees for you
But I’ll stand if you want me to
My legs are strong and I move on
But honey I’m weak in the knees…”
I remember there was a feeling of desperation, which is why I am jonesing to find it. Her voice I think was raspy. The whole knee thing wasn’t as prominent as was the part about waiting for a stupid man. I think she was waiting on the bed or a bed was mentioned somewhere in the song.
