I agree completely, especially since they spent most of last season building her up as the sort of queen bee of the SOA. Her character was much more interesting when she was pulling everyones strings. I get that the rape was traumatic, but last season’s Gemma would have slayed that dude.
Did anyone else pick up on Unser is Gemma’s real daddy and Gemma doesn’t know but Unser does?
Interesting. Are you pulling that from the exchange between Uncer and Tara? Now I want to watch the ep again.
I thought he said he’d known Gemma since she was 12…
Yes, this is what he said. So I figure that he was the father and out of the picture and maybe didn’t know about it till she was 12.
The reason I think he thinks he’s Gemma’s father is because he is very solicitous for her and because he said he would make sure nothing happens to her in a way that struck me as way over the top. Also, while it is usual for cops in dramas to threaten the bad guys like he did when he went into the store, it is out of character for Unser.
I see. That is an interesting interpretation. All I’ve come up with is that he’s sweet on her, despite their age difference.
I’ll agree that the evidence is far from conclusive. But it being a prime time adult soap opera, pulling a Darth Vader isn’t too far of a stretch. I doubt the actor who plays Unser knows yet.
Pulling a Darth Vader
Tears down my face, coffee down my shirt, LMAO.
I’m with faithfool, I just assumed the male denizens of Charming, particularly those who remember her younger hotter days, are all attracted to Gemma. I think lawn furniture might be attracted to Gemma.
Hell, I’m straight as an arrow and female, and I am attracted to Gemma now.
Well I think Gemma is really cool, if not amazingly foolish. I think it’s that one big eye in the middle of her forehead.
Damnit, I’m attached to the whole cast, we can’t have people getting blown up. sniff Poor Chibs! The next episode is entitled “Falx Cerebri” so I’m assuming Chibs has some brain damage
Jax is usually right blah blah protagonist yadda yadda cooler heads prevail…I’m on board most of the time but last night I was with Clay, bust some heads already SOA!
When the skinhead gouged out Otto’s eye, my jaw hit the floor. That was horrifying! I actually had a second to think, “they’re threatening him, they won’t really poke out his AHHHHHH!”
So Gemma’s reading the undead works of John Teller again. Are we headed for a more permanent attitude adjustment? On the other hand she broke a nose and refused counseling again. Don’t you go changin’ too much Gemma dear.
Clay pissed me off in this episode. Why did he rat out Hale to his older brother? What purpose did that serve, he already had Hale the elder by the balls. Seemed decidedly counter productive. I’m usually charmed by the “poor me, Jax doesn’t love me(anymore)” crap but Clay actually told Gemma that he’s been trying to pull Jax closer. Really Clay? You recently threatened to kill him, let me know how your strategy for improving familial relations works out.
Speaking of cast members I like, there better be lots of Half-Sack next episode and I please let it not be entirely devoted to his “re-balling.”
Oh Tara, I like you more than most folks seem to but you were a bit of a low watt bulb last night. Right after Gemma BROKE HER NOSE, Tara revealed way too much about Kohn. The recent reminder of Gemma’s violence and instability just drifted in one nostril out the other.
Any thoughts on where we’re going here? Scenes from next week indicate that the gloves are off. I’m thinking things are liable to get a lot worse for SAMCRO before they get better.
I’m guessing that any plan for patience is going to be out the window after the bomb attack. The question is how are they going to go about retaliating against the League without exposing themselves?
Yeah, I’d say that one of the better ways to deal with someone being sneaky is by just ignoring all that shit and busting a cap in their ass. Trying to play the game along with them is sort of a fool’s errand.
Yes, but the League has to be ready for this. I mean, they raped Gemma. I’m sure they weren’t expecting anything less that a full crew of blood thirsty bikers on their doorstep from day one.
Gemma was probably smart not to tell anyone, but it looks like that doesn’t matter any more since Chibs got hurt. The crew will want blood, but at least Jax will be able to think straight. If he found out about Gemma I wouldn’t be surprised to see him cruising by the League’s cigar shop with a Gatling gun.
The writing on the show is getting really good. I didn’t see the twist with Chibs coming until he got into the car. Even then I didn’t think he was going to survive. I’m looking forward to seeing what the League’s plan is.
And I just found out that Otto is played by Kurt Sutter, the show’s creator. I never recognized him before.
Mt. Whitey has been begging for full out war since they came to town. And they seem smart enough to pull it off.
I agree with Jax that they are fighting blind and that is really stupid. Not retaliating makes them look weak. But to paraphrase Vito Corleone “we are weak”. They don’t know enough about the enemy by a long stretch. Vito made peace and bided his time and carefully planned how to protect his family. It was no accident that they used the dialogue “it makes us look weak”. Clay is no Vito or Michael. Jax is, and even Bobby knows it. Jax’ plan to “go legal” is not going to work any better than Michael’s did. Maybe worse.
I didn’t know that Otto (Kurt Sutter) is the creator (producer?). He is a really good actor, but as a character I don’t think there is potential for growth.
I was very surprised to find out that Zoebelle used his own daughter to lure Gemma. Twice. He is one cold hearted sociopath. Is Zoebelle the Godfather of the League (Mt. Whitey) or just a capo?
They gave enough hints about the van to let us know it was a bomb. I really thought Gemma would spot it and save the day. And I thought Chibs had so much blood on the ground that he was a dead man. But you can’t kill off an actor that good so early in the series.
It looks like Zoebelle is going to get is gunfight next Tuesday.
Right. The bombing was clearly done with the intent of provoking the SOA into a full-scale response. So the question is, what sort of trap are the SOA going to run headlong into?
Well, for one thing, if they go straight at Zobelle, they’re all going to jail in 5 seconds, whether they succeed or not. Hale would have no other option, and they’re the no-brainer suspect, evidence or no evidence. In fact, I wouldn’t put it past the cigar selling bastard to hoax an attempt on his own, or his daughter’s life. Just because.
That being said, what can SOA do against the nazis ? Their drug operation in Charming is demonstrably expendable, so’s the cigar shop. All of their money comes from unknown, out of state operations. As for the Aryan muscle, who cares if they die ? Plenty more where they came from. SoA miiight have an angle with that land grabbing deal, though - not sure about that, as I didn’t really follow who was scamming whom how and why.
The land that Oswald holds is important to the SOA’s hold on Charming because if the town is developed they’ll lose control due to expanding population and bureaucracy.
Zobelle and Jacob Hale tried to wrest the land from Oswald by claiming eminent domain under the auspices of a new highway. By threatening eminent domain they think to force Oswald to sell because, obviously, they’d offer something closer to market price than the state. This is a farcical plot as it wouldn’t be all that difficult to figure out whether a highway was coming or not, particularly for a man as rich and connected as Oswald. I’m assuming Oswald thought to get out from under the SOA by getting rid of the land that is important to them.
The Sons aren’t very good criminals, are they? Even when they’re cautions enough to wear masks it all falls apart. If they display even a glimmer of caution in the next episode, they should make a clean get away - mind you, I’m not holding my breath.
OTOH, what’s the point of taking over and ruling a small town in California if you have to trifle with the minutiae of criminal enterprise?
I think the Aryans’ weakness may come in through the fact that they seem to be as much motivated by their ideology as their desire to be criminals. We’ve seen that the Niners are a) powerful, b) somewhat dependent on the SOA for guns, and c) have a decent relationship with Jax. Similarly, when last we left the Mayans, they didn’t know who was responsible for killing their guy. Is it possible that the SOA will, out of necessity, form an alliance with the Niners and Mayans for the purpose of getting rid of the Aryans?
Well no surprises there. SOA walked right into that one.
When your best plan is to role up on someone and then cut off his head, you need rethink your strategy.
Lets see if Samcro can put a little thought into their next move.
