Sopranos: 4/9 (Open Spoilers)

Still, what if the credit cards were provided by the feds? Christopher seemed amazingly uncurious about their interest in the guns, even though it seemed obvious to me that he should have seen red flags.

Agreed, Dewey - big, bright, red flags. Nitpick - Chris was selling the CCs to the Arabs (“Hey, where’s the rest of the 40 thieves.”) Evidence to be used against him at a later date?

Red Flags? He saw cash, and if it was cash no one else noticed, or cash he could pocket part of before kicking a percentage up to Tony, what the hell does he care.

Tony’s attack on his new driver was the result of several factors: Melfi’s advice, the talk about Johnnie Sack being weak, the collapse at the metal detector (witnessed by all), and the reaction of his crew when he enters Satriale’s for the first time (they all baby him). Tony’s time in the hospital was not unlike Johnny’s time in prison. Just in case there was any talk behind his back, Tony had to prove that he wasn’t weak.

To me, the funniest line was when he called the driver a “Philadelphia lawyer” before he attacked him.

Sure Chris is dumb. I still don’t buy it. There is no upside to potentially tipping their hand to Chris or to ruin the sting on the off chance that he decides to do the right thing.

My hubby’s take on the bloody vomit and the metal detector going off is that the Dr. left an instrument inside him after surgery. As Tony bent over to remove his shoes, piercing pain, then blood in his vomit.

I thought that at the time, too – but they dropped it after he took his shoes off. It’s not like they would have him take his shoes off and then walk around the metal detector, so the implication seems to be that he went through without further incident, which seems to rule out a mishap like that.

In addition, the wand that the security guard used indicated that the metal was in his feet.

At first I thought this too. But if you think it through (as I’m sure Vito did many times over when he had the chance) once those two bagmen are out of his sight for even one minute he can no longer “hit” them. Thats because he has no way of knowing if they’ve called anyone and outed him. If they had and he whacked them then everyone would certainly know right away who did it and why - so killing them is not an option once they are out of his sight.

It seems to me Vito only has three options: suicide, lam it, or roll over for the feds and go witness protection. Once you look at it like that - the third choice easily seems the best for him. Move to Montana, change your name to “Bob” and live openly gay. I seriously doubt Tony and the crew are just going to let him “retire” - he knows way too much.

IMHO, that scene where Vito gets caught in the club was brilliant. It had me squirming, stunned and giggling all at once.

With the line up, and the metal detector in use, I bet every car in the lot had a gun in the glove compartment.
And Frankie Valli needs to be whacked for his bad acting.
The reception cost a quarter of a mil? That was a cheesy band for that kind of cash. Yikes. They could have resurrected Sinatra for those dollars.

I thought they said the wedding was 425,000.

Yes, not counting the honeymoon.

I don’t think witness protection would take him if he’s not going to be active in the day-to-day business. Whatever information he could give now probably would not be that much help to the Feds.

This makes no sense at all.

The feds don’t just recruit “moles” within the organization. They also try to turn mobsters to testify against their former associates. Don’t you think that Vito (a captain in Tony’s crew) could tell some tales?

What Vito would get out of it, of course, is the “protection” part of Witness Protection. Following his testimony, the feds could create a new identity for him.

I disagree. Someone at Vito’s level could corroborate evidence gathered against Tony. The problem with Adriana was she was outside the inner circle, and Gino, though a made man, was too low on the totem pole. Vito is a high-earning captain who had direct access to Tony.

On the other hand, Vito’s credibility in a trial would be easily attacked.

This is true but there would be one big difference between him and, say, Big Pussy who was testifying to avoid going to jail for herion dealing. Vito would turn himself in without having been arrested so the defense couldn’t say that he was cutting a deal. Vito could say that he suddenly got religion and wanted to do the right thing.

In that case, scratch Sinatra and pencil in the Morman Tabernacle Choir.

Openly gay in Montana?

Also, what is the point of all those muscles if you can’t take down a 40 year old man who can’t take off own his shoes without fainting.

Who’s gonna hit Tony back? On his own turf, with all his friends around. I wouldn’t, not even if I had muscles. Maybe the driver thought it was some kind of initiation ceremony.

Vito killed Jackie Jr. on indirect orders from Tony (whom he really doesn’t like). Yeah, the government could be interested in that.

As far as the beating goes… Tony did get the jump on the driver, and even if he isn’t not at all muscle-bound, he’s a large man who’s delivered his share of quick beatings. I surprised the guy didn’t even lay a hand on Tony, but Tony would’ve known he couldn’t let it happen in his condition.
