Sopranos: 5/14 (Open Spoilers)

Damn - you beat me!

Okay, well, they look very similar.

What I do know is that guy’s favorite song is Rio by Duran Duran.

Now that I think about it, Nick Tortelli may have appeared on the show once, in 1960, for twenty minutes.

Yeaagh I hate her I hate her. The backhanded comments, the over the top hystoronics and her always trying to be at the centre of attention. Her crying jag was just to upstage what Tony did. She needs to be the victim even when she is rewarded. Damn her kid may have been hurt at the carnival but sure enough Janice had to wear the neckbrace!

I knew the second she went on about Sack’s house she’d have it by the end of teh episode. She is the fricken relative you never hear about until a family funeral and only then its because they are grabbing everything teh can get their hands on when no one is looking.

That was no motherly sterness she showed with the dressing down. She essentially called the kid stupid. There are better ways of getting him to do his homework other than humiliating him infront of his Uncle (new uncle… don’t forget this kid wasn’t family with Tony for most of his life)

I detested her when she first arrived but when she horned in on Bobby after the death of his wife she tipped my hate into a pure loathe on. The capper was how she served up the last dish Bobby kept in the freezer. She wanted to be the one to bury the late Mrs Baccala.
Lord I hate that woman!

Johnny and Ginny live in Jersey - near Tony and Carm - Johnny just worked in Brooklyn

no - that was Paulie’s take - Tony and the others make money off it, but it’s one of those old world traditions he likes to uphold

And don’t forget, she told Tony that Bobby Jr. had “gone back to” wetting his bed, and did so within earshot of AJ, who immediately got the most evil look on his face. I’d put her in a neck brace for real for that.

I’m pretty sure that I said this in a Season 5 Sopranos thread. I fucking hate Janice. That woman gets my blood boiling with every word out of her mouth.

And I’m really hoping for some loose ends getting tied up next week. Not necessarily a lot of gunplay, but gunplay if necessary.

I’ve met Aida Turturro - her cousin is actor John Turturro. I went to college with him.

Janice bugs me because she doesn’t have a sincere bone in her body. I was going to mention it in the thread after Tony got out of the hospital, but I forgot. This discussion seems the right place for it.

Everything Janice does is an affectation. Her crunchy granola new age phase was probably just a fuck you to her family. When Tony is in the wheelchair outside the hospital, he made a slight effort to talk to Janice in a meaningful way. But she just brushed him off. Why would she do that?

A couple people in that episode’s thread commented that it seemed out of character for her, but I think it was a perfect Janice moment, with excellent subtlety. She never bought into the new agey crap; she just affected its trappings. When Tony wanted to connect with her on that level, she had nothing. She is devoid of sincerity.

Also, while I can see how Caricci got the mothering vibe off Janice in this and a few previous episodes, I think it’s way off the mark. Like the new age thing, mothering is merely an affectation for Janice to put on whenever it suits her purpose. I’d bet dollars to doughnuts she only took away Bobby’s beer because Tony was sitting there as witness.

No way did I buy that she was looking out for the family a ways back when she instituted the weekly Sunday dinners at her place. That was another shallow, self-serving move likely intended to shame Tony by having the whole family over to such a tiny house.

Why do I hate Janice, and why am I positive that she isn’t sincere with her current mother personna? Because she abandoned her firstborn to be homeless, leaving him to rot on the streets. (And in Canada, right? Last I heard it gets pretty cold up there.)

No matter how hot any given woman is, there is always some guy that is tired of banging her.

I really think there is far too much gay subtext being read into HBO Sunday night shows. I think this season has shown us how Chase handles gay characters: blatantly. What was the first clue we had that Vito was gay? He went down on some guy in a car.

The gay bar leatherboy outfit, the deluge of brokeback sequences, a lame train-in-the-tunnel scene transition? After all this, you think they’re going to work in a super-subtle gay storyline with two episodes left in the penultimate season? Hardly likely, IMO.

Most likely Finn is sick to death of Meadow’s hypocritical self-righteousness. I’d be stunned if he’s not banging some other chick on the side. (Always at his buddy’s house? Yeah, right.) Don’t get me wrong, Meadow is way hot; hot enough to put up with a ton of crap. But he’s already hit that; now that she’s “old hat”, it’s all about personality. And that ain’t Meadow’s strong suit.
