You should be proud that he trusted you enough to confide in you. Remember what he said and in 3-4 years, remind him of the conversation and show him how unfounded his fears were. Equally, if his fears were spot on, do let him know that he was right.
Just like the “Lefties” did after 2004, right?
I’m not going to count my chickens just yet; it ain’t over till it’s over. But----if Obama does win, a Republican I know will surely tell me that the country is doomed or words to that effect. If and when he does, I’m really looking forward to telling him that now he knows how I felt when Bush was re-elected.
No, I read the OP as saying Dinsdale wants to let RWs know he does not want to hear about it.
So what you’re telling me is that you cannot work with incompetents? Boy, are you in for a long ride. They exist everywhere, in every profession. Good luck to you.
You’re a very classy individual, I gotta tell you. Perhaps you can reflect on how patronizing that was after you’re finished stroking your ego and telling yourself how good you are.
I’m waiting for pious reprises of their 2000 and 2004 civics lessons. You know, the ones expressing shock, shock, that it was nearly treasonous to question the Will Of The Majority. Oh, and pursed-lipped lectures about Respect For The Office of President of The United States.*
When even prominent conservatives openly admit Cheney/Shrub were national nightmares and endorse Democrats in a Presidential election, it’s time to quit the crap while there are still enough intelligent GOP members left to salvage the party. You know, the ones who don’t acclaim Sarah-the-fucking-moron-Palin as the rising star of conservatism.
*That was back around the time of their insistence that they were COMPASSIONATE, damnit, and had a Big Tent for all the whiners, wimmin and people of color. No gays allowed, though. And it was unpatriotic, nearly treasonous, to obsess about those wildly peripatetic WMDs.
Not so. I’m a Republican. I’m a conservative. I’m an agnostic. I think people should shut the fuck up about their religious hangups.
Then you and others like you are the hope of the GOP, Clothahump, and I’m not being flip or facetious at all. It’s a sad and sorry fact, but the Party Of Lincoln has been thoroughly hijacked by the religious right. You’re more polite than P.J. O’Rourke who ages ago wished the religious fanatics of the GOP would “fuck off and die”. That might not be an exact quote but it’s close.
Seriously. I’m not a party animal of any stripe but the GOP is in bad shape and that’s scary.
Oh yeah, that’s a big one that’s going to come back and bite some people in the ass. The hypocrisy will know no bounds.
That’s peanuts, I’m waiting to hear the revisionism on the “Unitary Executive” theory!
I well remember the predictions that Bill Clinton would destroy American business because he was far left, virtually a communist, and that we’d run a huge deficit.
AT THE TIME that was patently ridiculous; I couldn’t see how the people saying it could possibly actually believe it – Clinton ran on a “third way” platform to bring a pro-business stance to the Democratic party, and in so doing he eviscerated the far left and moved the Dems way toward the center. Events would, of course, eventaully show a long sustained economic boom.
Somebody in the White House ran up a huge deficit. Somebody oversaw the stock market and the housing market collapse. I ain’t sayin’ who, but it weren’t no Clinton nor Obama.
Don’t say “The President doesn’t really control those things” – at least, not if you’ve claimed Obama will wreck them.
That’s why I can’t help but roll my eyes at all the “Obama will destroy American business!” arguments. He’s a fairly tame liberal running on a platform of bipartisanship; he’ll pretty much be unable to run too far to the left, because bipartisanship will necessarily involve input from the right.
What’s in danger of being destroyed – regardless of which party wins tomorrow – is the environment and irreplaceable species diversity. American business will roll on regardless.
