Sortin' thru that pile in the MMP

Yanno, I bet no matter what you bring, it’ll be eaten. Just stick pineapple on it!

Oh, is it apparent that I dislike “theme” parties??

I learned that about me when a former boss commented that I always looked angry. No, that’s just my face…

I’ll give that a try next time. I bet using skim milk wasn’t the best choice either…

The kidlet should be here soon. My peace and quiet is about to be disturbed.

G’morning everyone. 53F here, and supposed to get to high 70s with rain tonight.

I tested negative for Covid, but I don’t think the rest of my body knows about it. I’m still coughing, stuffy, etc. just like last week. I wonder if there are false negatives on the tests.

Staying inside this morning, as we heard a bobcat scream close by (a few hours ago). I’m not really worried about it but am keeping our small dog indoors until it’s light enough to see. After it screamed, my Chihuahua barked once, then decided maybe being quiet was a better idea. He crawled up on my pillow beside me and curled around my head, trembling. At least he’s smart enough to know some things should be left unchallenged.

Finally started hunting for a replacement vehicle (online). Found exactly one truck in Texas with the options I need, and it’s been marked way down (leftover 2022 model). Trying to figure out how to either buy it or at least put down a deposit to hold it. I probably won’t get the insurance settlement for a couple of weeks, and am trying to bridge that gap (without hitting savings or getting a loan). I wonder how long a dealership would “hold” a vehicle if they got a large deposit on it. I’ve never done that, but I’ll see what they say. I’d hate to miss this one and wait months on ordering a new one (that costs $3000 more, according to the websites). I almost wish I hadn’t looked. At least I wouldn’t be fretting over this.

Today’s plans are just (as others say) sloth and chillage. Still too tired to get out and about, and figure I’ll make do with chicken soup, Netflix, and back-to-back naps.

Best wishes to everyone for a good week.

Morning all. Looks like all the rain is done and moving east, so should be a dry day and according to the weather wizards, it’s going to get close to 70F, so that will make for a nice 2sday. Not much on the agenda, need to get back to the gym for the cycling part of my exercise, but otherwise not much to do.

k-daddy, that’s an interesting and mildly odd story; either it was the oddest pick-up line I’ve ever heard, or they were would-be Psychics trying to drum up business…or not…

yankers, never hurts to ask the dealership, depends probably on how well that truck line is moving in terms of sales if they will hold it for you or not. Good luck and feel better soon.

ace, hope poor doggie learns before she runs out of teeth.

To late, I decided on a small laptop (13.5" screen, weights less than 3 lbs), But much smaller and lighter than my current Dell, so we’ll see.

Never fixed cornmeal or had government cheese (albeit Velveeta was the most common ‘cheese’ in our house).

hippie, I guess that wearing masks has passed into the history books for most folks (me too), so the lady was exhibiting true concern about you, IMHO. Nice of her, in a way…

FCM, sounds like MIL/BIL are adjusting to the changes brought about by FIL passing, hope things settle down for all y’all.

Ok, need to break fast and decide what to do with the day. All y’all take care.

Eye exam with a new eye doc today. Gotta do the diabetes check or I wouldn’t bother. Breakfast burritos this morning with scrambled aigs, hash browns (in the burrito), cheese and bacon. Green salsa condiment. Cooking tip for scrambled eggs: eggs are usually overcooked as you move the pan from stove to plate. To avoid this, add a dollop of sour cream to the eggs in the pan when they’re ready. It pretty much halts the cooking process and your eggs are perfect.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 0c/33f with a predicted high of 34c/1f out there, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Another fucking shitty day” and I have to agree, my day has been exactly like that.

hippy that is kind of nice and kind of creepy! But erring on the side of nice

Mooom good to hear that MIL and BIL both had an appetite this time, perhaps they are starting to get used to their new life and getting over the stress of what’s been going on.

K-Dad that’s a very weird situation to be in! Not quite the same thing, but we were once on holiday in Jamaica and regularly chatted to a US couple at the hotel’s evening happy hour/social thing. The wife told me after a while that I had brought all of my spirits with me, and they were all very happy with my choice of 'im indoors. Personally I just thought she was bonkers. Or drunk. Or both.

So…crappy day here, my colleague who was off sick for a few days has now been signed off for two weeks due to depression (and I expect it will be longer than that), various other things have been going wrong, academic staff seem to do nothing but complain about every last little thing…and I’ve had enough for one day. Going grocery shopping tonight instead, just for a change of scenery and a giggle. 'im indoors is making dinner so I expect it to be some kind of curry - I don’t mind what kind, it means no cooking or dirty dishes for me.

Yeah, I’ve been scarce, but for reasons. My mother finally passed after a fairly rapid descent into dementia and heart failure. So the funeral is this weekend.

Holy crap, flights at the last minute are expensive! Especially when one is not in a mood to get from here to there in two layovers and 15 hours longer than a nonstop. Crazy that some of those ugly economy class routings are more expensive than a nonstop in first class.

Strangely, I’ve been executor for one husband and one partner, and been to any number of “celebration of life” events, but not so much actual church funerals. A quick run over to a menswear store has me set with a white shirt, suit coat, and even a tie. (Haven’t had to wear one of those for work in about 25 years) So I’m good for the funeral and the interment is the next day. Guessing I’ll wear the same for that, or do those get any less formal with some color OK, or still the same black and white palette?

Happy Toosday!

It’s 45 degrees and N.O.S. outside.

It’s fuming hot inside.

I decided to call Unemployment to check on what’s going on. My son was laid off for 10 weeks and he got only 2 weeks of unemployment.
I thought I’d call to see if the rest is coming or if they fucked it up for the third time.
So, after I listen to all the damn messages, including one saying they will be closed yesterday for the holiday and would be reopening today, they are really on the ball, and all the other crap they spew, I finally get told all agents are busy, to call back later, and they hung up on me.

But what really has me ready to scream

Niece1 sends me a text that

  1. She just NOW called to have the property in Western MD appraised. JUST NOW! And do I know the address of the property because she doesn’t know what it is.
I have given her the fucking information TWICE, the most recent being around the beginning of December. WTF!
We are supposed to see the lawyer next Wednesday.
  2. She thinks my sister should be able to buy the house for $280,000. The house appraised for $364,000. NO! NO! and NO!
My sister has got them convinced that the appraiser doesn’t know what they are doing and the house needs new windows, and blah blah blah. That my sister is going to have to put $50,000 into it.
It does need some work, and I am sure the appraiser took all of that into consideration when setting the value.
My sister is a liar, a cheat, a manipulator, and a thief. She used to be a realtor, and she plays games. She is the one who told NIece1 that appraisers are a rip off and we didn’t need to get the Western MD property appraised as it was just a waste of money.
    This, coming from a realtor.
At least the lawyer stepped in on that and set things straight.
All of this was supposed to be done before Dec 31.
    I am FUMING!

Good Toosday morning. It’s 41f here and sunny. The garbage truck just went by (down the alley.)
I need to get dressed and go bring the big garbage can back up onto the deck outside the kitchen, where it lives.

When #1GrandSon was in college he was on the baseball team. The families of the players would have potlucks after some of the games. One of the families was Hawaiian and Dad would bring spam sushi. Spam and sticky rice sitting on top of, or rolled in, seaweed. I also believe the rice had some kind of sweet condiment on it, but may be misremembering. It was quite good.
I just looked it up and it’s called spam musubi.
I would use this recipe.
Your co-irkers will either love you or hate you for it.

I also have ‘resting bitch face’ according to Wifey. Actually she just says I “look mean”.

Boofae, I would hate to have a bunch of ‘spirits’ following me around. That would be all kinds of creepy.

Sorry about your mother, Gotti. I’ve been to a number of ‘celebration of life’ events and generally don’t care for them, but I fecking hate funerals and refuse to go to them anymore.
I didn’t even go to my mother’s funeral. In my defense, I was with her in hospice for her last 5 days. I even slept on a ‘couch’ in her room. And I was there at her bedside when she breathed her last. Except for one cousin who came to support me, most of the rest of the family couldn’t be bothered. As I told my nephew as he drove me to the airport, “I’ve had enough ‘closure’.”

Sari, deep, slow breaths. Put the gun back in the safe. Yes, some realtors are cheats and thieves. You’ll find that in most any profession. Wifey has been in real estate for over 40 years and we’ve seen all kinds.
And yes, the appraiser does take the house’s condition into consideration when appraising.
Maybe you can call the lawyer and reschedule?
I wish you luck. And patience.

Everybody who’s sick: get well ASAP.

And be careful out there.

Back from the periodontist. My left lower lip is still numb from the oral surgery; now my right lips are numb from the periodontal visit. The doc stopped in and said he’d hoped for more feeling on the surgery side, but he did say the feeling should start coming back after six weeks. He said that my ability to at least feel pressure was a good sign. I have another periodontal appointment in two weeks.

Today is overcast and rainy, and chilly. Not as cold as it has been, but I still have the space heater in my home office running. When I’m at home I’m the most comfortable in light clothes (e.g., t-shirts vs sweatshirts), so I am eternally grateful to whoever invented the portable oil radiator heater.

One of my colleagues isn’t reading for comprehension, and just got a little condescending: the customer asked for changes A and B to be made to a report, and he only noticed A. When I sent an email stating that B had also been requested, and provided the request and asked for his input, he replied by restating and mansplaining the straightforward request for A…and saying “let me know if it’s still confusing.” *sigh* Otherwise, though, work isn’t bad today (as evidenced by my posting in the middle of the afternoon). I’m still looking forward to being done for the day, though.

My bariatric support group has a Zoom meeting this evening. I plan to attend, though I will likely stay off-camera (so I can not worry about my bangs, which are staging a water/brush/dryer-resistant coup  ). I skipped the last meeting and there wasn’t one in late December, so it’s been over a month. Time to get back to them!

Maybe I’m just grumpy today, but the behaviors in both of those stories strike me as being on the presumptuous/intrusive side… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Oh…I’m so sorry. :people_hugging:

I tend to think of interments as extensions of funerals (“part 2,” if you will). I think people will be in similarly somber attire. But really? Wear whatever you want to wear!

Howdy Y’all! I saw the doc and the vampire in under thirty minutes this mornin’. I think that was a record for me. Anywho, after that I fed twuck and went by BK to get snausage bizkits and hash rounds which I brought back to da cave and we chowed down on. I was hongry and that made me non-hongry and happy. Nappage has occurred and ‘tis rainy out but around seventy Amurrkin. Day drinkin’ is next on the agenda after I put the lasagna in the oven to do it’s thang. I have a strong need for a gin and tonic. I guess I need to ward off malaria and scurvy.

kdad that was strange. Maybe you were bein’ hit on by psychics. Anything is possible at two-thirty a.m.

taters take spam sammiches. Spam is popular in Hawai’i and I almost guarantee you will be asked to bring ice, or plates,or cups to further potlucks. In case you haven’t figured it out, I have no idea what constitutes Hawai’ian cookin’.

sari I don’t know what to say, except don’t let your sis manipulate the nieces at least as much as you can. You could report what your sister is sayin’ about the value of the house to whoever would be the appropriate offical folk for such things. Or just let 'em all fight it out.

BooFae personally I prefer to have spirits follow me around in a bottle.

{{{gotti}}} I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. I say you can be a bit more casual at the internment. No tie is OK and dress according to the weather since it will be outside. Nobody is goin’ to know what you are wearin’ underneath a Winter coat.

GodBod hope you feel better soonest.

ace hope Shayna’s vet bill is not too ouchie.

Yanker I’d at least ask the dealership. If they are havin’ trouble movin’ vehicles off the lot, then I’d bet they’d be fine with holdin’ the truck with a substantial down payment.

I have a RBF, as well. I’ve been told that and I’ve also said to folks who have told me that “I have a tendency to bite as well, so think carefully before you say anything else.”

Cookie good luck with the eye exam.

FlyBoy yay for a good sign. I know you are more than read for all that to be over.

Oopsie some folks feel that they must fulfill the role of office stoopid person. Your co-irker apparently feels that is his role to fulfill.

I always try to wear what I think the deceased person would want me to. Sometimes that is somber and formal, sometimes it’s comfy clothes in a favorite color scheme that we both like. I once went to a staid Lutheran funeral in all pink, down to my shoes because that is what the decedent suggested.

I wanna spend today at your house!! If I bring Jammie’s can it be a sleepover and we do biskitsand hash browns again in the morning? Hunh, hunh? We can giggle and tell secrets.

I am going to have to remember this comeback.

My sympathies, {{{gotti}}}. FCD will be picking up his father’s ashes tomorrow, but neither of his parents wanted a service or memorial. They just want their cremains scattered in the Great Smokies National Park, so no funeral attire for us. But when my dad died (20 years ago) I had to buy some appropriate clothing for the viewings and the funeral. I’m sure your choices are good.

sari - I’m so sorry your sister is making such a mess (to use an understatement.) When my sister’s MIL died, her BIL tried to cheat his sibs by offering a stupid low amount to buy the house - on the Severn!! He intended to sell it at a 6-figure profit and he didn’t understand why the others objected. Lawyers ensued…

My sibs and I aren’t like BFFs, but I know there won’t be any BS like that when our mom dies. Plus my bro is executor and he doesn’t take crap from anyone.

Oh, yeah. Home. FCD just left to help his mom with some insurance stuff - hope he won’t be too late. I’m just going to chill the night away.

shady, in my young adult years, my income made me eligible for the commodities. The cheese was usually good, at times, we got peanut butter, flour, rice, powdered milk, honey and butter. Basic stuff that I didn’t have to buy at the grocery store.

JtC, I knew that about the USDA and food stamps. It kills me that people who get ugly about the recipiants of government food programs have no issue whatsoever about farmers getting a piece of the pie.

Poor Shayna! Hope that she isn’t in pain before the extraction.

I’m sorry about your mother gotti. Dementia sucks.

Irked, came home, let Nelson wrestle with Sully, the standard poodle next door before we came in, et and am chilling.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good thing I have a coat - probably haven’t worn it over five years. Normally it only gets “a bit chilly” here, not at all like Chicago in January.

:people_hugging:

I am so sorry for your loss.

Noodles are easy and fast. McDonalds in Hawaii sell noodle bowls (think cup of noodles) and most office vending machines sold actual cup noodles of one kind or another.

Buy 4 or 5 packs of ramen noodles and a bag of frozen peas and carrots. If you wanna get all fancy and stuff, grab a can of spam or a pack of hotdogs. Cube the spam up at home (or cut the hot dogs into discs) so you don’t have to mess with that at work. Bring a big bowl or pot with you and at lunch time, fill your pot with boiling water, dump everything in and stir for a while.

Well, dang. Get better soon!

Darn it Shayna, stop chewing on the fence you silly thing! /offers you a glass of mead/

I’d never heard of that before, but it sure does make sense. Note taken, thank you!

I believe there are. When hubs had Covid last he tested negative twice and refused to test again because he knew he had Covid. It was his third go-round, I trusted him to know what it felt like.

Keep taking care of yourself and drink lots of fluids!

What a mess. Want me to go over to their place and let the air out of all of their tires?

Oh, I have a whole bunch of words about those sort of heartless people. Yes, some people did try to cheat the system when I was a food stamp worker, but most of my clients just did not have good coping skills and were trying to live on less than a thousand dollars a month AND they usually have children. /kicks soapbox back under the desk/

I went to the grant workshop today. This has been a cluster from the start. I couldn’t register for the workshop because their site was having issues, so I just showed up as did about 20 other people. The organizers did not show up and when called said that they had sent out an email that due to the weather, the workshop had been changed to a zoom meeting and we could go to their office and watch it on their equipment. So, yeah…ya all remember those fascinating meetings where the presenter reads the power point screens out loud? Yeah, I drove an hour through snow to watch that on a TV screen.

Evening all. Went to the gym about 5pm and it was so crowded that I could literally not find a place to park. So came home and had my Mac-n-Cheese and the last ‘regular’ Pepsi left in the house (so everything from now on out will be either Diet Pepsi or Pepsi Zero) and will try the gym a little later (they are open until 10pm). Did manage to avoid nappage by going to a couple bookstores looking for some stories (couldn’t find them so ordered 3 books on Amazon). Otherwise a pretty quiet day.

Sari, it never seems to end, does it? Hopefully the appraiser will do a good job and put that argument to rest.

{{gotti}}, sorry about the news of your mother, I don’t know if formal dress is really needed anymore, but do what you feel is best.

flyboy, that is way to many dentist visits in too short a time!! ake care and hope the numbness fades away.

OK, just the last two sips of Pepsi and then put the dishes in the washer (probably run it tomorrow, it’s almost full). Take care all.

We staved off malaria and scurvy and then et sup. Now we chillax on this rainy(ish) evenin’.

Boo we’ll do snausage gravy and bizkits for breakfast. I’ll even make you shrimpies 'n grits. We’ll stay up all night or until ten o’clock, whichever comes first!

JtC may they all get painful papercuts that never go away.

I’ve experienced it myself. DH and I came up symptomatic around the same time (this was late August). I had three negative tests on consecutive days, skipped a day, tested positive day 5, symptomatic the whole time. DH was testing positive on day 1.
