It kind of feels like that’s every episode now. “Look, some new, stupid trend! It’s HORRIFYING!” Ad nauseum.
Now that was just creepy…
I was at a local restaurant eating lunch, at the next table over sat a woman having a very loud, attitude-filled phone conversation, as I finished lunch and left the restaurant, I spied her license plate;
New Jersey!
I guess it’s true then, they’re everywhere! Even here in Maine Jersey…
I dunno, I’m from California and if I saw someone that looked/acted like that I’d say they were from New Jersey.
My favorite part was when Stan was on the phone with Arnold, “If we fall you’re next!”
“Actually, Utah is next.”
“Well, if Utah falls then you’re up.”
“Nevada is after Utah.”
Yep, like in SW Florida near the city of Fort Meyers, they have the Caloosahatchee River.
It was named after the Calusa Indians. Hatchee is Seminole for river.
So you have it meaning Calusa River River = Caloosahatchee River, in common usage
The La Brea Tar Pits, or “The The Tar Tar Pits.”
So “muff cabbage” means vagina vagina?
No, it means “floppy vagina” - as in “your vagina has pussy lips the size of cabbage leaves, I want to wear it like a hat”.
Maybe it is because I live in Jersey but the stereotypes they parodied screamed Long Island or Staten Island to me rather than my own state.
They’re parodying the cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore.
Of the original 8 cast members:[ul]
[li]THREE are from Staten Island, New York[/li][li]ONE is from Long Island, New York[/li][li]ONE is from Johnston, Rhode Island[/li][li]ONE is from The Bronx, New York[/li][li]ONE is from Ulster County, New York[/li][li]and . . . wait for it . . .[/li][li]ONE is from New Jersey[/li][/ul]
Also parodied are the shows Jerseylicious and The Real Housewives of New Jersey . . . but mostly the parody is founded on MTV’s Jersey Shore.

I’ve never seen the show and don’t know much about it, but for some reason I was under the impression that it’s about people who take summer vacation at the Jersey Shore, so I’m not surprised that most of them aren’t actually from NJ. Was I wrong in this impression?

You’re right, but for the most part people have assumed the cast to be from New Jersey. Like you, I don’t watch the show, it may be completely clear to fans of the show that the cast isn’t from New Jersey, but the broader cultural impact of the show (as it goes beyond actual viewers of the show) has encouraged a stereotype of New Jerseyans based on the personality traits, image, and manner of personal expression of these eight people- seven of whom are not from New Jersey.
I know it seems like Sammi doesn’t exist because she is so excruciatingly boring, but both she and Snooki are from New Jersey.
Regarding the “muff cabbage” line. I was under the impression that they were saying “muff garbage” with a Jersey accent. “You’re gahbage, you’re just gahbage, you’re muff gahbage” my take on muff gahbage was that it was another way off calling someone a slut.

According to the Wiki link, Snooki is from Marlboro, Ulster County, New York.
I thought all Italians (except me) were annoying. Now I’m told it’s just people from New Jersey? I take exception to that.
But this episode was exceptionally strong for me. “Snookie want smoosh smoosh,” and “I’m shaving my face; it’s a jersey thing,” are two quotes I’ll be sure to use in the near future!
They were identifying her with Snarf Snarf, or whatever his name is, right?

Cool. That makes my initial impression from the show make sense. I assumed it was a way to call someone a slut or whore.

“Oh, really? Well okay, Mister I’m Awesome at Geography!”
I’ve never watched any episode of any NJ-based reality show (although I did catch Snooki on Letterman), so my critique might be off, but it fell flat for me because it reduced Snooki to an overly broad [no puns intended] and dehumanized caricature, losing whatever compellingly watchable “Snookiness” quality she presumably has. (Granted, the Schwarzenegger geography dialogue was funny.)
But then I had the same problem with SP’s depiction of Al Gore warning us about the ManBearPig.
