Whoa…I moved from Chicago to Boston. My mind is reeling!
Game 1 is Wed night at 8:00 EST, from da Bronx.
Thanks Telemark!
Wait… 20:00 EST… that’s  03:00 IST.
Guess I’ll make due with “canned” footage
Go Sox!!!
f***ing time zones!

In addition to the heckling, the fans were throwing stuff at Ortiz/Jackson. I was surprised when I heard later that they actually showed part of that on the telecast.
But yeah, my overwhelming feeling being there (and decked out in Sox gear, and holding a gigantic sign) was that the A’s fans were classy for the most part. There will be jerks in every crowd of 50,000, but I was definitely touched by the roaring ovation Damon got before he was loaded into the ambulance.
a happy day in bean town.
i’m not even going to try to think about a chicago/boston series, too scary.
Well, if it makes you feel better, my current location’s team was in the damn Division Series, and we got screwed time-wise, too. They showed all the Giants games at 1 pm Pacific Time.
Except for the Giants rolling over and croaking earlier than anyone expected, this is about the best baseball playoff season I can remember. I feel kinda bad for the snakebit Athletics (9 games straight and counting where they could have won to eliminate a playoff opponent, but didn’t: a major-league record), but how can you root against the Sox?
Oh, and the only thing wrong with a Sox/Cubs World Series is that both teams can’t win. Somebody has to go home disappointed, and after so many years, it’s going to be an equal measure of heartbreak and mind-boggling triumph.
I don’t think the Marlins will match the Cubs. It’s going to be Chicago in 5, or 6 at most. Yankees/Sox, though: That’s going to be a mutherhumpin’ war. I can’t wait.
Man what a cutter that struck the last two guys out, why did Boston move him from the closer role in the first place, he’s a hell of a lot better than that Williamson guy who walked everyone.
Did you watch the previous two nights? Williamson was perfect in relief then, they just went to the well too often.
They moved Lowe to starter because they needed a starter.
In the interest of full disclosure I am a Yankee fan.
Having said that I watched nearly the entire game and I couldn’t believe the crap the announcers were giving Manny Ramirez for the way he behaved after hitting his home run. It really didn’t look like he was taunting or insulting the other team…he was obviously just relieved that he finally had the big hit that had been eluding him. His whole manner conveyed the message: “FINALLY!”. Then he pointed at the Red Sox dugout as he started to jog around the bases. His dugout. Where his friends and teammates were. Not the A’s dugout-THAT would be insulting. Not at the pitcher-that also would be insulting. But the announcers went on and on about how poorly he had behaved, etc.
Manny is clearly not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he really does seem to get picked on a little too much for some minor lapses like this.
I didn’t see Lowe’s alleged gesture after getting the last out. I was watching but I just missed him doing anything noticeable.
I finally saw the replay of the final out.
Tejada is an idiot.
Oh, and my Yankees are going to dispose of the Red Sox. That’s just the way it’s going to be. Sorry.
Actually Lowe became a starter for 2002 because he totally blew up in 2001. He was horrible. He was never very well-suited for the closer role anyway, but he was just brutal in '01.
Williamson’s only the ‘closer’ as of Game 3 anyway, it’s not like he was Lowe’s replacement in that capacity (we had Urbina last season and nobody this season until we brought in Kim in May). Telemark is right about his performance Monday though, he had pitched both of the previous games in Boston and was just gassed (same goes for Timlin).
Regarding Kim (I forgot to answer this yesterday), it’s a complicated situation. Grady Little wrecked his already-fragile psyche by sending him out to close the 9th inning in Game 1, letting him put 2 guys on base, waiting for him to get his bearings back and get the 2nd out, and then pulling him… and you probably know what happened after that. He didn’t pitch in Game 2 and then when his name was announced at Fenway for Game 3, he was booed by the home crowd – he flipped them off and we all knew from that point he wouldn’t pitch again this year.
I’m really afraid for him, actually. After Brenly tried to ruin him in the WS and now Little messing with him, he’s been subject to really bizarrely intense situations seemingly designed to break his will. It’s weird.
But anyway, he’s off the roster for the ALCS, so his season’s over.
This really is a truly memorable postseason. Having been at 2 of the 3 games in Oakland I can say that I’ve never felt energy like that at a baseball game before (and I’ve been to plenty of playoff games in the last decade or so), and with what happened in the 2 games in Fenway I think anyone would be hard-pressed to come up with a Division Series to rival this one, ever.
At least we don’t have to worry about two trains trying to exist in the exact same section of track as much.
As a Baltimore fan I gotta say… It is SOOOO wrong to see Mussina on the mound for the Yanks…
GO SOX!!!
I take it you haven’t been traveling on the Orange line much the past two weeks.
I hardly take any part of Metro these days. Did I miss something?
I’d really rather not talk about it. But let’s just say three major delays on the Orange/Blue lines since last Monday. During afternoon rush hour. There was track damage or something on one of the days, then I just ascribe general WMATA incompetence to the others.
Really, truly, ridiculous.
Lets Go Red Sox! Clap! Clap! ClapClapClap!
1 down, 7 more to go.
My dear sweet grandmother now has hope that she will see the Sox go all the way for once.
Hey, get up in the morning (midnight EST).
Sky is blue without a cloud. It’s 20[sup]o[/sup] outside (that’s Tel-Aviv in October. You may all make jealous noises now ;))
We’re all going on a week-long vacation (for Succoth) as of this evening
Nobody’s blown their and our brains out in a restaurant for - what? 5 days now
I log on and find out that the Red Sox have won again!
Ah, bliss!!
Now, off to work, you slacker!
