Aw, Spice Weasel, we hardly knew you (as a mod, at least). I’m glad things are going better for you already, and I also kinda hope you have the inclination and opportunity to come back sometime in the future. You done good.
Can they do that?
Thanks for your service, Sparkly One.
Regards,
Shodan
We thank you for your service! Mods are like teachers. We tend to take them for granted because they just always seem to be there, but the fact is that it takes a personal sacrifice to dedicate so much time to an enterprise such as this. God bless you and, again, THANK YOU!!
Just maybe add “Former Mod Currently Still Regarded As Sparkly” to the whole thing. Just to make the MMP that much more -------- different.
Good luck to ya, SW. The sight of your sparkly jackboots kicking butt was…something unique.
Knockin’ it down a notch, eh?
Well a heartfelt BAM! to you, madame.
I am trying to parse that sentence. :dubious:
Am I the only one who is actually not overly surprised by this, and who for the sake of Spice Weasel is a little relieved?
Let me explain: I hold Spice Weasel in the highest of esteem, and am constantly amazed at the thought she puts into her posts. She is never careless or indifferent or short-tempered when it comes to sorting out complex matters of human interaction. Her insight, compassion, and willingness to share her ideas are remarkable.
Anyway, I’m a moderator elsewhere and while this place is pretty different from the board I mod, being a moderator gives me some sense of what moderating here would be like: there must be times when it necessitates a tremendous amount of engagement and discussion in the mod channel. Banning spammers is easy. Figuring out what to do about problem posters who are right on the edge, or who provoke varied reactions from different moderators, can be HARD.
As soon as I saw that Spice was taking up moderating duties, I thought, “Oh no - it’s lucky for the board but I’m not so sure it’s good for her. She’ll devote so much time to thinking through the thorny issues that arise, and then she’ll spend even more time writing her ideas in a thoughtful, persuasive manner. The job of moderator will eat her alive!”
Maybe I’m totally wrong. I certainly didn’t want to say anything like that at the time her moderatorship was announced. Nor do I expect commentary one way or the other from Spice Weasel or the other mods. You can all just laugh behind my back at how I got the situation wrong!
But if there is a ghost of a clue of a scrap of a hint of truth to my theory - Spice, I am glad you’ve made a healthy decision for yourself. But your sparkly jackboots will be missed.
I can say that she certainly did spend time thinking through thorny issues and writing her ideas in a thoughtful, persuasive manner, and that her doing so was good for the board. Of course, I can’t speak as to her internal mental state.
She did a great job.
And she really livened the clubhouse up with her new approach to decor. I have to wear sunglasses, now.
I heard you were high bid for the sparkly jackboots. Can you tell us what you paid for them?
It’s for the Ex-Mod museum. It’s a non-profit centered on contemplation, meditation and frozen yogurt parties.
Ex-Mod Museum? So that’s what happened to my old watch!
Thanks for your service SW!
How does one become a mod anyway? Do the shadow masters of the SDMB show interest and contact them, or do they volunteer themselves?
Not that I’m interested… I have enough idle time but I hate doing administrative work.
See this thread:
I could never be a moderator at a message board that would allow someone like me to post. I have standards
I’m sorry it didn’t work out, Spice, but I’m glad you’re prioritizing real life. You’re still great!
Modding sucks. I’ve done it a couple times, but my jerk tolerance is way too low. Kudos to the mods. I try not to be difficult or too jerky myself but sometimes I fail.
I was just thinking of her this weekend when Ace Hardware pissed me off. I told my partner “I have to go back and raise hell with my sparkly jackboots on.”
I astonished myself
I’m sorry you’re stepping down
