I thought it was excellent. A Monday 6pm showing was pretty packed. I picked the 3D version mostly because the timing of the showing worked out best for me. I’ve mostly soured on 3D but I have to say it was very well done this time. I think the fight scenes were enhanced by the effects.
I remained mostly spoiler free although I did see correct speculation on who Sadie Sink played. I was a bit surprised that Punisher had as big a part. I figured he would be a one scene cameo. Tombstone drew the short straw. I liked the friendship with the detective. Spider-man’s relationship with the city felt faithful to the source material. I liked seeing a Spider-man/Hulk showdown. I felt the emotional center made it one of the better MCU movies and the action didn’t suck either. I’m glad I saw it on the big screen.
I was disappointed in what passes for an end credit scene. The MCU has no one to blame but themselves they started it. I expect there to be something meatier or amusing or both. Or one of each. Especially with the next big project around the corner. A little tease about the Avengers would be nice.
It’s not. It’s been explained before that the Spider-Man movies are a partnership between the studios. They share revenue and Marvel maintains the storyline as part of the MCU. Otherwise Hulk, Punisher and New Black Widow wouldn’t be in the movie. The end credits scene from Spider-Man: No Way Home was the teaser trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. There is nothing legally or contractually that prohibits them from incorporating continuing MCU storylines. It is a MCU movie.
Loony bins get a bad rap. Banner was legitimately having a breakdown over what he did when they carted him off. He could probably use whatever treatment he was going in for. Loved the movie, but every time they close up on Tom Hollands face I now see a slightly younger version of Lewis Pullman (the actor who plays Sentry). Great cameos, great action and emotional beats. One minor complaint is the ending was too close to the Thunderbolts ending for my liking, and Tombstone got shafted.
I wish they would count butts in seats instead of dollars. Tickets were obviously cheaper when Endgame came out and not just because of inflation (there are more recliners and special formats that demand higher prices).
I sort of agree as, without accounting for inflation, it’s not much of a metric for comparison. However, within the industry, the Russo brothers recognized that a win is a win and graciously congratulated the new record holders so that’s good enough for me.
No. Attendance is just a more valid gauge of a film’s success relative to earlier releases. I personally thought the record holder would have been a film much older than Endgame.
What year is this movie supposed to be set in? cause they fast forwarded through their entire college career at MIT, and they were already like five years ahead after Infinity War.
I was confused by where this fit in with the latest season of Daredevil, given the drastic different versions of New York City presented despite Frank Castle appearing in both.
But then I realized that it’s just a show and I should just relax.
Thank you! As a curmudgeon, one of the things I like to mudgeon on is demands for flawless continuity and/or historical accuracy (c.f. The Odyssey). As long as the plot holes are not obvious to the oblivious - let it go.
I liked it, though not quite as much as the other newer spider-man movies. Still much better than the average MCU movie lately.
I did found it a bit odd how quickly Peter turned from seeing Jean Grey as enemy to “she’s not a killer.” If I recall correctly, among many other things she literally possessed a person and had them step in front of a speeding car, had a person jump out of a window, and fired a tank gun at cars and buildings in the middle of a city. I don’t mind this darker backstory to her character, but I also don’t want the story to pretend like she’s never murdered anyone.
This is my biggest issue… she 100% killed people… apparently the writer’s have said “No no, everyone is ok.” Eff all the way off.
People died… Peter ALMOST killed one cop with an errant action that was less severe than what we saw in the chase scene.
The movie did go so far, after the reveal of who she was, to show her consciously NOT going for
kill shots when possessing people. There’s a scene toward the end where she takes over an ICE Agent…I mean… Damage Control guy and has him shoot his partner in the leg and I think then take over the shot guy and have him shoot the shooter in the leg.). So they seem to have chickened out.
But if they made Jean the militant, violent one in X-men, I’d be so excited. It would actually make for a new dynamic for her. Maybe they won’t rush the Phoenix story this time.
(ETA- also, did anyone else think Vmax was going to be like a psychic message corruption of X-men).
