Indiana Jones did pretty much the same thing too, only sans words, if I recall correctly.
When I saw the movie, I thought the perfect headline for a movie review would’ve been The Nips Are Back!
And I agree with her teeth needing to be fixed. I don’t really think she looks as pretty smiling than when she keeps her mouth closed. I’m sure fixing her smile would go a long way.
Loved it. The fight scenes were wonderful.
The only bits that kinda irked me were May’s rather over-the-top hero speech ( I can’t remember the last time my grandmother improvised a speech like that), and the fact that you could see the Grim Reaper hovering behind Ock’s wife from the moment she came on screen.
More than made up for by Spidey and Ock on the wall beating the hell out of eachother, of course.
I was thinking along the same lines, but now I think I’d prefer something subtle, maybe a Hugh Jackman cameo in the next Spidey installement, or someone reading a Daily Bugle at the X-Mansion. Just some recognition that the movies are in the same universe.
I love J.K. Simmons and wish to have his babies. He just stole every scene he was in.
Was that Vincent “Big Pussy” Pastore on the Subway?
Overall i give it a B+; demerits being for the woeful miscasting of Mary Jane, and for the utter randomness of the skinny blone cake girl. But extra credit for the ‘Spiderman’ violinist.
It looked like him, but I didn’t see his name in the credits (or on IMDb).
I thought it was excellent (just saw it this afternoon). My biggest complaint was the seemingly infinite number of young kids either proclaiming the obvious to their parents or asking them dumb questions. But oh well.
The bad luck for Peter started getting a little over the top, but I did feel for him. Made me glad I’m out of college, too. The dialogue might have irked me in a different movie, but it worked for this movie. The dialogue and story pacing really made it feel like a comic book in a way I haven’t seen in any other comic book movie, and I really liked it.
Other pluses:
Mary Jane saying exactly the right thing to Peter at the end (prior to 'Go get ‘em, Tiger,’ which was good too.)
I think Raimi or someone realized after the first movie that they had cast Jonah Jameson absolutely perfectly. So they gave him more screen time, jokes, and scenery to chew in this one. Hi-larious.
Also on the subway, I could have sworn that it was Todd “Spawn” McFarlane in the trucker cap saying that Spider-Man was only as old as his son. Didn’t see his name in the credits either.
On of the things that ticked me off about the Daredevil movie (besides Ben Affleck) was Ben Urich working for the New York Post.
I’d really like to see Spider-man show up in the Fantastic Four movie, looking to join and asking what the job pays.
If it was Todd, you probably would’ve been able to tell just from his voice. He has a very distinct lisp.
I was worried that the film wouldn’t be as good as the first movie, but it was just as good, if not better. I loved it.
I loved Jonah Jameson. His lines were delivered brilliantly. I also liked the way things were set up for the next film. The only thing that bugged me about the film was cake girl. I’m still trying to work out the point of that scene.
Through reading this thread I have realised that the pause at the end of the “Raindrops keep falling on my head” scene was deliberate, and not my dvd player playing up. Thanks guys.
Whats the consensus for the villians in Spiderman 3?
Green Goblin 2/HobGoblin is guaranteed. Problem with this villian is the fight scene. GG was great in the first movie, but compared to the Doc Ock fights, GG doesn’t hold a candle. Spiderman 2’s fights were so dynamic. I don’t think the train scene could have been any better. The serum from the first movie just gives out super strength/insanity. Fights between Harry/Pete will pretty much be punching and throwing things.
The Lizard is pretty set up from this movie. Except it doesn’t look like Dr.Connor was a biologist. I don’t think that matters much as long as he’s versed in “advanced science.” Also on Lizard’s Bio at the Marvel Directory it mentions he has both super strength and equal to Spiderman agility. That could make for some very impressive action.
Venom has limited set up from Spidy 2. MJ’s ex-fiance is an astronaut, and the Venom parasite came from space. Thats about it. I have a feeling that was just thrown in the movie to keep people guess at whether or not Venom would make an apperance. I can’t see it happening in 3. Venom has to much backstory to share the screen with HobGoblin. Unless they decided to throw and extra hour on the movie I think Venom is out.
Though he is set up well for Spiderman 4. And we all know that movie is coming. With Jake Gyllenhaal replacing Tobey. I think Tobey will be done after the trilogy, but the movie companies are going to want to milk the franchise. That way we get an entire movie spent on a villian that really needs an entire movie.
Seems to me like you just answered your own question about “cake girl.” She’s in this movie to set up her role in the next one, whatever that turns out to be.
Can somebody help me out here? I don’t remember Harry Osborn ever being the Hobgoblin.
When Harry discovered Norman was the original Green Goblin, he used his father’s equipment and became the Green Goblin himself.
My recollection of the first Hobgoblin was the thief who found the goblin stuff, and even held Harry hostage trying to get him to spill his secrets (the goblin serum formula, maybe? I don’t remember exactly)
The second Hobgoblin was Jack O’lantern (a lame goblin ripoff) before acquiring the goblin gear and becoming Hobgoblin. When he couldn’t get the serum, he cut a deal with some demon and became a “true” hobgoblin.
On a releated side note - I used to own a comic shop (not that that means I’m not mixed up on what I just said). I had a 13-14 year old customer who constantly called Hobgoblin “Hobogoblin”. I tried to correct him a few times, but he didn’t believe me.
I think we need to have Green Goblin teamed up with a lesser villain. This is where having crossover in the Marvel movies would really be nice. I’d like to see Green Goblin getting some help from the Kingpin. Spider-man has also fought Sabertooth and Bullseye in the the comics. Any of these would allow for the addition of a secondary villian without having to do the complete a total backstory of the second villain.
Alternatively, if two villains per movie is too much, I’d go for a new villain, being controlled behind the scenes by Harry - or work something with the Lizard in here - with a backstory of Harry training to be an even more powerful Green Goblin than his father.
I don’t think they’ve done anything to really set up Venom. Introducing John Jameson alone isn’t enough. They’d still have to do the space mission that brings back the symbiote, and they could have just as well done that without bringing John into this movie. It does set up Man-Wolf, in that we know more about the man who becomes Man-Wolf, but I don’t see Man-Wolf working as a movie character. I was never really found of him in the comics, though.
When Peter asked his grandma what she did with his comics, I was thinking that was the way he was going to pay her mortgage… by selling a collection of comic books that turned out to be super valuable.
E3
You’re right, of course, but some liberties with the source material have already been taken (comic-book Uncle Ben, for example, wasn’t shot by a carjacker, nor were Peter’s “webshooters” biological in nature). I’d be okay with it if Harry went with Hobgoblin, if only because the GG costume from the first movie was soooooo stupid-looking.
Incredible. I don’t like movies in general, and when I saw this it really shocked me.
I haven’t been this impressed after a movie since Episode 1.
Seriously, this might be the best movie I have ever seen. I must see it again!
Actually, the problem would be that werewolves have been hugely overused as movie characters, and are now just cliché.
I really liked the movie, but that line was one of the stupider, cheesier lines I’ve heard in a movie in a long time.
lol
Might I humbly suggest you see a few more movies?
Stan Lee is making quite a career for himself saving little kids from falling debris.
The movie was fan-effin’-tastic. JK Simmons stole every scene he was in.
“Tell them not to open the caviar.”
