As long as I don’t see a nipple on the suit, I’m keeping my hopes up.
At first I thought Topher Grace was an awful choice for Eddie Brock, but I’m following my Michael Keaton rule about judging actors playing comic book characters.

So, Topher Grace isn’t playing Peter Parker’s clone?
If you think of Venom as a Bizarro Spider-Man, Grace is the perfect choice. No, he’s not as muscualar as comic Brock/Venom, but by having someone that could win a Maguire lookalike contest in the the role, they heighten the link between the characters.
If memory serves, Brock was an average built guy and starting building up as a means to give himself the ability to defend himself, after getting tossed around a few times and I think there’s a scene in the trailer where he’s tossed against a wall.
They can’t hide Tobey behind an emotionless mask for the WHOLE movie.
My prediction: Venom makes an appearance only at the end of the movie, setting up Spidey 4
My prediction: The cops are wrong, and Sandman isn’t the real killer of Uncle Ben. Someone close to him (probably MJ, but maybe Gwen, since she has the police connection,) will find out, but not tell Peter, since they want him to decide for himself that he shouldn’t be out getting revenge.
Trailer looks great, I have some high hopes here.
Anyone wanna start some bets on what the opening gross will be on this? 110m?
IGN Filmforce picked up a rumor that Bruce Campbell’s cameo will be as Mysterio!!! If so, that’s 4 villains!
You mean his face?
<geeky nitpick> Peter Parker’s original love interest was Betty Brandt. </gn>
I’m really worried about the villain bloat, here. There’s room in a movie for either one primary villain and one supporting villain (plus an indefinite number of henchmen/lowlifes/muggers), or for one traditional team of villains (“traditional” meaning that they’re inherently associated with each other, not just a one-movie-teamup of unrelated folks). Here, though, we’ve got at least Green Goblin II, Sandman, and the black costume/Peter’s inner blackness (regardless of whether it actually manifests as Venom or not, it’s the main villain of this piece).
I’m also worried about the “other love interest” angle. Just because Peter has had different girlfriends in comic continuity doesn’t mean that he should in movie continuity, too. The previous two movies have done too much setting up MJ as his One True Love, and there isn’t really room in an action movie for complex love triangle plots, anyway. Plus, if they’re trying to follow print continuity, then Gwen would have to be the one to get killed off, and with her only being introduced in this movie, it won’t mean anything.
I also have to wonder how much of the “dark” we see in the trailer actually happens, as opposed to dream-sequence inner psychology stuff like the Green Goblin in the mirror in the first movie.
so Kraven the Hunter *is *not gonna be in this movie!
The extenstion of that rumor that I heard was the he’ll appear as a stage magician named Mysterio but won’t be a villain. Just an in-joke cameo.
The Sandman being in my top 5 Marvel characters of all time… I am jazzed beyond belief for this movie.
Judging by the trailer, it looks like they’re going to draw a parallel between Peter Parker avenging his uncle on Sandman and Henry Osborne avenging his father on Spider-man. Sort of a revenge triangle instead of a love triangle. The common theme could keep it from feeling too bloated.
Excellent. I was rooting for Sandman to be the villain du jour.
Plus, I suspect Sandman won’t play that big a role in the movie. My guess would be it’s something along the lines of: Sandy kicks Spidey’s ass, Spidey gets the symbiote (and the accompanying power boost), Spidey kicks Sandman’s ass, and then Sandy’s gone.
Assuming they do that fairly quickly (first half of the movie, say), they can move the Goblin in for the second half (since he doesn’t require much by way of introduction), and then end the movie with a Venom coda (much the way they ended SM2 with the Green Goblin 2 thing).
Did anybody notice that when Peter is on the balcony saying he needs somebody’s help, it looks an awful lot like Harry’s?
And Harry is shown in a trauma collar on a stretcher at one point, with the implication that Peter put him there.
I’m thinking Peter gets the symbiote early, starts hunting for Sandman, gets jumped by and kicks the crap out of Harry and then, later, needs Harry’s help to get rid of the symbiote. Somewhere in there he kicks the crap out of Sandman as well.
I’ve watched it half dozen times, i don’t see Venom. So i’m guessing with Sandman as the main villain and GG2 as a runner up, Venom will only get to be introduced at the end to lead into S-M4. I see a bunch of shots with Brock.
Want Venom? Check out this unfinished “leaked” version of the trailer.
You have to wait 'til the very end of the trailer, but it doesn’t disappoint.
It has been removed. Damn!
