I’m (slightly, only slightly) addicted to the SC games and thought it was pretty cool that they’re going to be making a film. I hope they do a good job.
I was relieved to hear that Michael Ironside will be doing a voiceover for Sam in the movie as he has in the games. I can’t think of any other actor that would be able to duplicate Ironside’s voice.
It doesn’t look like there’s any definite choice as to who will play Sam yet. Who do you think they should or will choose? I think George Clooney might be a good choice since he’s the one actor I can think of who actually resembles Sam, but I’d moreso like to see them find a no-name guy who can really capture the character.
Thank all the gods Uwe Boll isn’t involved. I also hope they do a good job. It should be at least a bit dark and realistic in feel. If they do live-action, I fear they might make him a little too James Bond-ish and go nuts with the gadgets, or do wire-fu instead of sneaky and nasty fighting. I don’t know enough actors to make a guess at who should play him. I hope that they don’t go with George Clooney even though the resemblance is strong. I kind of hope they go CGI in a way.
The director is relatively new, and this might be his chance to do more if he’s able to make a good movie. That gives me some hope.
Tell me, where in his entire life has George Clooney looked the least bit intimidating, gritty, and world-wise? He’s like a mini-Tom Cruise. Can you imagine Cruise playing Sam Fisher? (I hope not.)
Naw, naw, I only meant looks-wise, the resemblance is strong. I don’t think Clooney’s that great an actor (which is why I said I’d rather see a no-name guy who can do a better job).
And if they ever casted Cruise as Fisher, I think that would be the point at which I’d lose all faith in humanity.
You still said he was a “good choice,” hence my response. Clooney would be awful as Sam Fisher, looks or not.
That said, I don’t think Clooney is bad. He can be effective in the right role. But I seriously doubt he can pull off looking like anything but a playboy. And Sam Fisher looks like someone who would reach into a playboy’s chest and rip his heart out.
Sam Fisher looks like a business man. If I walked by him on the street I wouldn’t look twice as it wouldn’t cross my mind that he could sneak up behind me and put a knife to my throat before I’d notice. Looking at old photos of people who served on the frontlines of Viet-Nam and World War II most of them look like regular people you’d meet on any street in the United States. Unfortunately we’ve become conditioned to think that tough people have a certain look to them. Dustin Hoffman doesn’t look all that tough but he’s played some convincing tough guys before. Not that he’d make a good Fisher mind you.
Re-examines my POV
Yeah, you’re right. I was thinking all looks and not acting style when I made that choice. Let the consensus be that Clooney as Fisher = not good.
MGibson, the only problems with Hoffman as a choice would be he’s too old (Fisher is ~50 at the time of Chaos Theory) and too skinny. I guess they could beef him up with a muscle suit, but I think they’d have to pad it too thick to look good - Fisher is pretty beefy.
