Spoil Stargate SG-1 for me

There were two gates. One was destroyed. Now there’s only one.

The original Cheyene Mountain one was transported about the Asgard ship so that SG-1 could escape. The ship crashed into the ocean and sank. The Russians retrieved it to use for their own Stargate program.

The U.S. got the Antarctic gate out of storage and installed it in Cheyene Mountain to replace the lost one.

One of the badguys directed some sort of energy beam through the (replacement) Cheyene Mountain gate to cause an overload which would destroy Earth. SG-1 tossed it into space where it exploded harmlessly.

The US then made some sort of deal with the Russians which IIRC involved money and use of the gate by Russian teams. This deal gave the U.S. possession and control of the gate and they installed it back in Cheyene Mountain. End of story.

There is now ONE gate one Earth.

That should have said "There is now ONE gate on Earth.

So, I had my chronology wrong, then - The NID gate came before the Russian gate?

Fair enough.

If you are a fan enough to want to watch the whole thing, might I suggest buying the seasons?
There are reasonable at $50 US per season. I have the first six and waiting for the 7th.

I forgot about the whole business with the NID. A more complete chronology would be as as follows:

There was originally believed to be only one gate.

The second gate was found in Antarctica. It was put into storage (IIRC, in area 51).

The NID somehow got possesion of the Antarctic gate and were abusing it. SG-1 discovered this, stormed their facility, took possesion of it, and put it back into storage.

There is now ONE gate on Earth (barring, of course, any unforseen discoveries) and it’s in Cheyene Mountain.

I’m pretty sure that this is right but if anyone knows differently please correct me. Does anyone have a cite which confirms or denies my chronology?

Looks good to me. I would add that Anubis attempted to destroy the gate while Teal’c was trapped inside the gate. The Russian gave SG-1 their DHD (Dial Home Device) as part of the deal. Teal’c got out.

I’ve been away from the series for a while. This is the most shocking thing I’ve read here in a while.

Actually the Russians lent SGC the DHD after a ton of acrimonious negotiations between Daniel and the Russian general who is always blaming SGC when his guys get whacked. In the end they lent it to SGC and when it was used to rescue Teal’c, the feedback blew up the DHD, whoopsie Russkies, our bad:)

MikeG, any idea where that fits into my timeline?

What happened to the Antarctic gate’s DHD? I seem to remember it having one in Area 51. Did I miss the episode where they lost it, or is it still around somewhere, or what?

I just watched an episode in Season 6 (I think Episode 4: Frozen) that said that the DHD’s have a finite lifespan for their power systems and the one in Atlantis was millions of years old and finally ran out of power. They assumed it was a used one from another planet when a new stargate had to be installed on earth when the original one got buried in Egypt (or wherever). So there are no useable DHD’s on earth.

Thanks, that was something I was curious about. Very clear.
