(Old) Spot-ify: The MMP That's The Cat's Meow

Be careful what you wish for, I’m about to dish out some more nursey advice.

@liirogue~That nick on the hand from the murder mitten kitten? Unless you are absolutely positive that you’ve had a tetanus vax booster in the past 5 years, like a note in your record at the doctors or in your record at the pharmacy where you got it, go to a pharmacy that does vaccinations and get another tetanus. The general advice is to get one every 10 years but that is for 10 years without a high risk injury and cat punctures are just that for bad stuff, like tetanus and cat scratch fever. Plus as humans we tend to have porous memories for things like shots and think we got one 7 years ago when it was really 13 years thanks to the haze of time.

Pharmacies can do tetanus vax without a dr’s order. Just like they can do flu, covid or flu shots.

And keep an eye on that hand. Cat scratch fever is insidious and nasty and not at all uncommon. Any warmth over the area, swelling however slight or redness or soreness, get thyself to a dr or urgent care.

And thank you for such excellent advice. I did not know that cat punctures were considered high risk for tetanus! My last shot was 7-8 years ago, so I will get a tetanus shot tomorrow when I go to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription refill.

I am certain it isn’t infected though. It’s been almost 48 hours and there’s no heat at all. I am always diligent about using copious amounts of rubbing alcohol (91% strength) on any cat scratch because their murder mittens are so germy. It is swollen but only in the bruised area and I can tell a lot of blood ended up pooling under the skin.

Nellie, may I have enough to buy the barn where Ariel lives, plus enough to fund it AND pay the guys at least $75k a year each? Thanks.

Prius, Cherokee, RAV4. Glass and hoods clear of snow and ice. Roofs? Not so much. But we never look through the roofs.

Well, good thing you don’t live in Massachusetts then as my understanding is that their law is that roofs must be cleared.

Ye gawds, the wind is howling out there with a vengeance!

I put on my fanciest PJs and bestirred myself to Wal-Mart. Thanks to an anonymous benefactor’s generosity, I was able to get Monkey kibble AND litter, plus both Mylanta & Rolaids (thanks for the advice, Boo!) in addition to a coupla bottles of water.

I have plenty of Powerade and bottled green tea, but all I’ve really wanted since exorcising this demon is AGUA!

The Mylanta tastes absolutely awful, and yup, hurt a bit on the way down (I may have been overenthusiastic in my dosage size and gulped down too much volume) but so far the Rolaids are :+1:

Holy LORD with that Arctic wind just now! My next heating bill is gonna be terrifying.

Nonzero chance. Hasn’t he freaked out over nothingburgers before?

So tired of the constant back pain.
I went to get the zesty dressing for dorito salad.
The pain only leaves when I lie on my side.
I wish I had one of those cooks belts they sometimes wear.
Yes I only took 1 toradol tues and 1 weds but was afraid to overdo it. It did not totally relieve it either time, just lessened.
Got a good book called My Beloved Monster about a man ( Caleb) who found Masha and she changed his life.

I got some of it off! Too icy on all of the cars, and the roof racks on the Cherokee and the RAV4 make it more difficult to sweep.

:disappointed_relieved:

Had a few spoonfuls of coffee ice cream, but it just didn’t go well with the sound of the howling wind.

But I have indiv. tapioca cups, which are cool and sweet, have a soothing texture, but are not so cold they remind me imma freeze my ass off over Superb Owl “hell” night.

Oh, and we’re not supposed to get the new reach-in until long after what is historically one of the busiest nights of the year (that is not gonna make anyone’s job easier!) and I’m just already over it.

Is there a thrift store or secondhand shop near-ish to you? That’s one of those random things that gets purchased because you have to, and then later not needed anymore.
Might show up on their “miscellaneous” shelf.

Okay, if you’ve told us before, I’ve forgotten, and you mention it often enough that I figure it must be good, sooooo … WHAT THE HELL IS DORITO SALAD?!?

I went out for my allergy shot today, and since we were in the neighborhood, we went to Cold Stone Creamery for some hand-mooshed ice cream treats. I had a chocolate-on-chocolate-on-chocolate concoction with a brownie, chocolate sauce, and a fudge ice cream so dark that no light escapes. Christy had the Oreo overload.
Sticks_and_Scones, have you seen the guitarist called Buckethead? He performs wearing a plain white mask and a paper chicken bucket.
peedin, when I blew out my quadriceps, the surgeon made a repair with a piece of cadaver tendon. It looks weird on the MRI, but it works.

Howdy Y’all! We had Netflix, chill and popcorn time. OYKW is watchin’ some NCIS (sorry, but I am not a fan) whilst upon the bed. I am, well, here.

CupCakes the book is by Rowan Williams. I like him, which is a rare thing for me with the Archbishop of Canterbury. The book is Passions of The Soul. It’s the recommended Diocesan Lenten book study for this year. Weirdo that I am, I downloaded it a month early and will probably have it read in the next two or three days. I am the nerd who does homework ahead of time.

This afternoon I saw a bird swoop near the front window a couple of times. I told The Spousal Unit it was making me nervous, because we’ve had birds slam into the window before. An hour or two later, we heard a thump. There was a good-zed bird on the porch, looking dazed. It was black, and appeared to have red flashes. The beak was a bit over an inch long, I’d say, was black, and was narrow and pointed. We left it there to recover. A bit later it looked more alert. Mrs. L.A. eventually went out to pick it up, and it hopped away at both attempts. So we left it. When I looked out again, it was gone. I hope it made its way back to its nest.

Evening all. Did some moving at the gym, about 800 calories worth with breaks in-between, so feel pretty good. Grilled Ham-n-Cheesers have contributed to the calorie count and I added a couple of applesauce cups for dessert. So belly is full. Got a little rain today, but it is still 65F at 7:30pm, so it’s all good.

Next paragraph deals with my bladder habits, so it you want to skip it…

Been watching my urine output the past couple of weeks (got a couple of those ‘pee bottles’ they use in hospitals) along with my fluid intake. I was a bit concerned as it was showing 3-4 liters of urine a day, and frequent (12+) micturations… But today seems rather normal, about 5 trips and only 1200-1300ml so far. Might have something to do with the exercise regime starting back up, but I’m going to keep monitoring it for a while yet.

Cat Glove, can’t argue with your advice to cookie, I guess it’s just my bureaucratic nature to write something first. Just never been that outraged, I guess. My mom would have supported you 100%, she never hesitated in calling out things to those in power. And chocolate croissants sound delicious.

flyboy, well, at least you have two weeks to forget about them again. And I just clicked on it and saw it was a book; I just figured it was some plant-based delicacy you had ordered… And hope the bird is Ok.

FCM, I can feel for you, but it’s about all the close family he has left (IIRC) and being a stubborn man letting go of it is hard. IMHO.

VanGo, sorry to hear about the truck passing on to the great traffic circle in the sky. Hope something reasonable becomes available.

Oopsie, good news about Bailey.

BBBoo, some high-quality nursing advice this week.

52, glad you are feeling better…at least until the bloodletting…I’d take BBBoo’s advice on the shot.

As for the free tax site, I’ll try to remember that next year, but I have a long history with Turbo Tax and they can pull my records from the past year and make it fairly simple to do.

nellie, I’m sure there is something out there for keeping tracks of meds, but I would have no idea where to look for it. Hope you can find something useful, An yeah, if the big$$$ lottery ever grace my door, there is going to be a Mumper party like you wouldn’t believe with a lot of things taken care of.

shoe, keep getting better! And I will look for the tapioca cups on my Big Friday Kroger shopping day.

I am trying to watch my calories here, but damn that sounds good! Sadly the nearest Coldstone place is 25 miles from here, but…

And it’s 8pm and I am knoshing on some abay carrots and getting ready for about an hour of you-tubing. Catch y’all on Firday.

If you don’t mind my asking, are you diabetic/pre-diabetic? The throughput during the sedentary period has me worried a bit, given my experience with a diabetic household member.

dorito salad

You take a bowl. Put 2 tiny bags of doritos in ( minus bag)
Use your knuckles to crush them to 1/2 inch pieces.
Add shredded cheddar cheese
Add cut up tomato
(Some folk add meat, sour cream, lettuce)
Put Kraft Zesty italian dressing on.
Mix, coating as well as possible.
Let soak into the doritos for half hour

Enjoy!

You bet! As soon as I get a billion bucks, you’ll get a nice, fat check.

Yeah, I used to figure that driving would do that job for me. How many inches did you guys get? You may have said, but I missed it. Our scant 3 inches is gone. Yesterday I did see a snowman, though! True, he looked like a drunken Munchkin, but still, impressive for what little snow we got.

It can be disconcerting, can’t it? If I’d have been one of those prairie women in a little soddie with the wind screeching like a banshee, I’d have swilled Lydia Pinkham’s nonstop and caught the first wagon train heading east.

Coppertone, I’m 100% with you on your wariness of painkillers, but one of the best pieces of advice a medico ever gave me was to get ahead of the pain and then stay on top of it. Otherwise, he said, pain can actually slow healing. When you lie on your side, do you put a pillow between your knees? That used to help me.

Also echoing shoe’s request for details on the Doritos salad. It sounds delish!

I do have a family history (father was type 2, one of my nephews is type 1), but get things checked every year and no abnormal readings to date. But will keep that in mind.

I’d respectfully suggest acquisition of a blood glucose meter for home use (Walmart’s Relion brand seems good enough for pre-diabetic me), and you can get a home A1C kit online. Those do look a tad pricy, so maybe you can talk your doctor into ordering an A1C along with any other labwork you may need in the near future (depending on insurance coverage).

And cranky night nurse Boo completely agrees with this advice, both about the pain meds and the pillow between the knees. Nellie, we’re gonna make a nurse outta you yet-great advice on all counts.
