Blurfs from Cubeville.
I went into Outer Manland this morning to fetch a battery for my MP3 player, and was delighted to see the bat was hanging around <snerk> once again. One of my rescue buddies likes to photograph unlikeable critters, so he’ll be stopping by tonight to shoot the little guy or gal.
I’ll have to get off my ass and build a bat house this year. I like having them around, but I don’t like them pooping in my workshop.
We’re running out of stuff here today - there’s been a shortage of coffee, elevators and electricity.
When I first got into the building, there was a clot of people waiting for elevators, which is unusual. When I went to get my coffee, the power went out just as soon as I got to the food court. When the lights came back on, the credit card swipe terminals were down. Around here, people will buy a bag of chips with a debit card, so this caused great consternation among those in line to pay. Then the unthinkable happened…they were out of coffee.
Rather like this scene from Airplane II:
(From what claims to be the movie script, as found at http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/Airplane2_script.htm.)
I always inform my co-workers when I’m pre-coffee so that I will not be held liable for any actions, statements, or attitudes.
No baby yet, just a fair amount of annoying morning sickness, Gnat getting a cold, and my amazing blessed wonderful MiL coming in yesterday to help be house-slave and Gnat-care-person, and take some of the weight off my parents and Attacks Husband and Mr. Lissar.
She’s staying with my Mum and Dad, and they’re taking him morning through post-nap every day for a week, and dividing up his care (mostly taking him outside to play in the mud, and drawing endless pictures of TARDISes).
SO I’m free to go back to bed a lot without feeling guilty.
We got our tax return! Beer’s on us!
Blurf.
bobbio, I am still agog over the shaving incident.
Not a durn thing going on here. Plus it’s gloomy outside.
Despite what em says, I’d rather be in Paris.

On the OP ------ We cleaned our attic and house seriously well in the Fall; I had a feeling that this winter was going to be something with Muvver and I wanted to prepare the space in advance - either for her or for things of hers we need to preserve and protect. I took several car loads to the Thrift Shops and various church sales and gave a ton to a friend to sell on eBay. I worked a deal with him that we split 50/50 which is fair to me. I just don’t have the time or will to deal with the buyers. So far each of us has gotten like 11 grand after expenses. What surprised me was ho9w much some of our crap was worth; our 5 Nagas (where Nagahide comes from) went for like $200 each!
Now as we clean and get ready to market her house, we have space for things important to us. The heirloom china cabinet and china, clothes she may need in the future, things to decorate her room with, family photos and all. We’ll be back at “Point A” by the end of the month but being able to do it slow and think has been a help.
I’m in Dover, waiting to deliver a lunch for the mighty sum of 11 people.
I guess it’s true… I’m just a girl who cain’t say no.
I wished I’d known about the Naugas on eBay - I always wanted one but my folks said they were silly, and in spite of my protestations that that was the whole point, they refused.
Hmmm… we always called them Magic Cookie Bars and used this recipe. That is without the butterschotch chips, but the “additions or substitutions” section suggests adding them.
Here’s the Irish Cream Brownie recipe:
Brownie Base:
1 box fudge brownie mix
½ C veggie oil
¼ C Irish cream
2 eggs
Frosting:
½ C butter, softened
1-2 C powdered sugar (Original recipe said 2, but I made them with 1 and they were plenty sweet.)
2 Tbsp Irish cream
½ tsp vanilla
2-3 tsp milk
Combine all brownie ingredients. Spread in 13x9 pan. Bake at 350 for 28-30 min. Cool completely.
Beat butter until light and fluffy. Add all remaining frosting ingredients, adding enough milk for the desired consistency. Spread over cooled brownies.
Our parents all said yes but back then they were free for something or other I am sure – coming in to the store on a certain day or something.
Now what I REALLY need is the name of a fairly honest antique dealer around Pittsburgh who does larger things like furniture – stuff too good to toss and too large to ship. Don’t really care what I get; just need to make it gone so I can wash the walls and remove the carpets and all. This place has some great vintage stuff and I don’t want to do the yard sale/estate sale route for fear of someone casing the joint to come steal all the copper later some night.
(Muvver wasn’t a hoarder in the modern sense; just a Depression Era/WW II person. Things didn’t get thrown away because they could “be needed some day”. And since Popsi was an only child and all her siblings went into the Church -------- houseloads ended up at her place. Right down to 50s and earlier wedding dresses. Those we can eBay for her ------ the four china closets we don’t want are another story.)
If you’ve got any antique televisions or maybe radios, PM me, kopek. TVMan might be interested
ETA: I’d be interested in silver or silver plated flatware, too.
I don’t recall butterscotch being in the bars, but we certainly called the Hello Dollys or 7 layer bars (except they don’t have 7 layers). Who said cooking had to make sense?
I didn’t buy butterscotch, so I’ll have to make do.
I am going to make them soon. Spent some time with my neighbor because the sun is trying hard to come out and the sandhill cranes are flying overhead to their spring nesting grounds! So exciting and LOUD. Daffodil shoots are up and the snow is making like the Wicked Witch of the West. Good riddance–I can’t remember a time I’ve been more ready for spring, and I LIKE winter.
Laundry in dryer. TH is leaving me for Canada for 3 days starting tomorrow. Nothing else going on.
Phew. What a day.
LiLi- one you need to post a primer on all your husbands and others. I cannot keep them straight.
Attacks Things Randomly Husband is our housemate. We’re renting with him. He’s dating my Quasi-Daughter, which makes things really incestuous.

One of my coworkers brought in a couple copies of Rachael Ray’s magazine. I found 8 recipes that I want to try in 2 months of the magazine. Plus I have a whole bunch of recipes from the Everyday Food magazine by Martha Stewart that someone else brought in for me. I just need more people to cook for! Two of us can’t eat all of this!
