Spring Has Unsprung- A Chilly MMP

Morning all. Due to make it into the 70’s today and hit 81F tomorrow, according to the Weather Wizards. May have to shut down the heater and break out the AC sooner rather than later.

I just had to laugh at this mental picture…

If you mean getting into my current sweatpants and sweatshirt ensemble, then yes. Yes it did.

Dicey, glad Mom-unit is doing well. And unknown, maybe he was just checking to see how long the rain was going to last (well, at least that would be my excuse…)

OK, need to feed rumbling tummy and get some information together for the lawyer for my will, so all y’all take care.

nellie, I’m so sorry you had to go through that with your ex. I’m so glad you’re safe now, though I have a feeling that those experiences never completely go away.

FCM, Toby is truly beautiful - that picture just made my heart melt.

Ugh, I wish I could kickstart my brain today. I think I may have overdone it a tiny bit with the running yesterday. It wasn’t super long - just 40 minutes - but I haven’t run that long without stopping in longer than I care to admit, so my walk was way harder than it should’ve been this morning and I slept like I’d been hit over the head with a cudgel and woke with vaguely throbbing legs. Oh, well.

Work’s gonna be kind of tedious today. Meetings from 9 to 4 (yes, I’m slacking) with one half-hour break today. Tomorrow’s not going to be much better. Where’s my siesta, darnit?!

Wifey thinks I’m foolish for petting strange dogs. An off-duty Edmond, WA police officer was stabbed to death in Las Vegas after a quarrel over a dog with a third party. Wifey said, ‘See? That’s why you don’t pet strange dogs.’

To be fair, I’m not a jerk with other people’s dogs; and if the owner is there, I ask if I can pet the dog(s).

There is a big dip in the jet stream that is allowing cold air to flow into the mid section of the country, and it is supposed to remain that way for at least the rest of this week. As the old saying goes, March came in like a lamb and is going out like a lion.

Sunny, sorry about your Dad. I hope this behavior is just a temporary effect of bumpin’ his head.

Shoe, count me among those who want more DAM stories.

Cookie, there’s a house for sale in our neighborhood. Very similar to the layout of our house (which we rent); three bedrooms (one of which is an add-on and you have to go through another bedroom to get in and out) and one - count ‘em, one - bathroom. Total of about 1100 square feet. All the houses around here were built in the 1940s. The asking price? $1.6 million.
This is why we have to leave San Francisco.

Speaking of which, we got word on Sunday of the latest lot release at the community in Henderson where we hope to build. You have to pay for your lot before starting to build. We were led to believe, though, that the “less desirable” lots we were considering would go for next to nothing, and it turns out they are way more than we expected. We expressed our interest in the two lowest-priced lots of the bunch (do-able but still pushing us to the very top end of our budget), only to be informed that they had both already sold. All the other available lots would have priced us out entirely. So we spent a day discussing whether to wait for the next lot release and hope for the best, or give up on this development. We’ve really fallen in love with the area and the particular house we want, so it was a very emotional discussion.
Then we got a call saying one of the buyers might be switching to a different lot, and were we still interested? We said yes, and are supposed to hear if we get the lot by the end of the week.
This is turning into quite the roller coaster!

An absence of extra chaos today. Yay. It was cloudy and 39 when I got off, felt like winter.

My grandfather’s house in Belmont was worth $300k. In 1989. Expensive.

OMG, I have heard horrible stories about rents doubling overnight and stuff. No wonder you are looking to buy. I hope you are able to get the lot you want. Be sure and visit your place often during the build.*

Our housekeeper’s adult son, his wife and their three children are all sharing our housekeeper’s small three bedroom place because they can’t afford to rent or buy.

So, we got a wonderful rain last night and the ground is still wet this morning. Birdy dating season is on and the activity levels are loud and entertaining. I doubt we are going to see another freeze so once the days get an hour longer, I’ll put my veggies in.

*Before I retired, I liked to bring my lunch to work and then go find a tree to park under at lunch time. Once the tree I liked was at the entrance of a housing development so had the added bonus of eye candy to watch. I was there at least three times a week and once in a while I’d bring a co-worker and we would both eat in my car and smoke and chat until we had to go back to work.

One day while I was eating my lunch, the foreman and a couple of the workers came to my car and told me that they wanted to show me how nice they had made my new house for me. They had assumed that I was there because I was watching their work instead of sitting there in the shade idly watching them work. Of course I let them show off and made all sorts of approving sounds. It did look very nice, someone get a really nice house.

Nellie {{{hugs}}} That sounds absolutely awful. I’m glad you’re out from the situation, but I’m so sorry that it happened at all.

Dice I’m glad your mom is recovering well, and I hope the winter weather at least brings some moisture with it.

I don’t think it’s stoopit. I’m nervous about sailing that far on a new boat with littles from here. Would it be possible to to take the boat across without them, and then take them on a shorter sail later. You’d be more familiar with the boat and wouldn’t have to feel so split between paying attention to the boat and the kiddos. Plus, if they’re miserable you can get them off in double time. It’s a thought. (I have them occasionally. :stuck_out_tongue: )

Boo Fae Is the panel meeting with you or is it something you just have to watch? The first option sounds monstrous, the second sounds like a time sink.

flyboy That whole story sounds terrible. From the cop to the stabbing, not good. You can tell the missus that the problem was NOT the dogs.

wheelie I hope the house situation works out.

That was a lot for 1989. Did he ever used to go the race track there? It’s gone now, but I loved going there.

The storm has moved through. We got a good soaking, which is awesome. I don’t know if we’ll get any more rain this season, but I’ve got my fingers crossed.

I’ve sicced my uncles on my dad. I’m hoping they give him a raft of grief, as only younger brothers can, and get him to pay at least a little attention to his doctors.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Read much, retained little, as usual, so hugs, trouts, etc as needed

I’m actually watching paint dry. Well, I’m here, but that is all that is happening at the shop right now. I don’t get the needed info on the next piece until tomorrow. I have 110 wooden slats that need to be wood grained, and I’ve got the base coat on. Then a 3 step process to make them match the fake wooden floor.

Hub’s computer is on the truck to be delivered by 1630 today. I am so excited I can’t stand it!

The lot is ours! Sh*t just got real.

We are fortunate that our landlord hasn’t raised our rent in 9 years. He wouldn’t be able to double it anyway, but he does have the right to raise it by some percentage each year. He likes us too much though; we take good care of the house and always pay on time, and he doesn’t want to lose us as tenants. Not sure when we’ll break the news to him.

We figure out mortgage payment will be about $500 to $800 less than our current rent. It will be nice to be a homeowner again.

So take advantage of the breather to eat.

SWMBO said I am to mow the lawns this weekend. It’s such a nice, sunny day I decided I’d mow them today on my ‘lunch break’. The mower won’t start. It’s a Toro, and has been pretty good over the years; but the last few years it’s been harder to start after Winter. No more just two pulls! I called the shop where I had our (Honda) generator tuned up, and they said they no longer work on Toros. They gave me a number for a place not too much farther away than they are, and I’ll try to get the mower down there this afternoon. I’ve already loaded it into the Jeep.

Flyboy, I get my Toro serviced every other year at a place about 20 miles from me, and so far it’s worked fine. And I too probably need to get the first mowing of the season done this weekend.

Wheelie, great news!! Hope the rest of the build goes well for you.

Good move, Sunny; sometimes those closest are the ones not listened too; I remember my uncle cutting his head open one time, and then wanting to leave the hospital untreated; he had a raging argument with his sister (my mom) and brother (my uncle), but my dad finally calmed him down and let the Docs sew him up. (Me and my uncle’s wife just hid in the background…).

flyboy, I’m with you, I’ll pet most any dog what wants petting, with the owners permission. Petted a fat corgi last night at a soccer field, very good dog.

Did my gym work and pedaled my half-marathon, then put the calories back on, so will take my nightly walk in about an hour as penance. Hit 73F today, but the house still seems cool, that heat needs to start leaking in.

Bowling for gymrats cracked me right up nellie!

Mooooooom, perhaps it’s having the grands with you that’s making you nervous about this trip out. BTW, Toby’s absolutely adorable!

Irked, most were dismissed after only 2.5 hours, but two of us at my table were able to stay for the rest of the day. Late start again tomorrow. I’m seeing the signs that our facility may not be here much longer. I’m hoping that they make the same buyout offer to us as they did during the last loss of a major client. Should they do that, I could coast with a part time job until retirement.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

That was the original plan, till someone issued an invitation…

If you follow me on FB, you already know about my adventure this afternoon. After I dropped off Toby, I came home via a different route, just because. As I was tooling down the road, I saw a school bus inching out on to the road. I figured it was waiting for me to pass, then it kept inching faster, and in order to not hit it, I swerved and took out a mailbox and ran a bit in a ditch before getting back on the road. I had to drive a bit farther before there was a place to pull over, and the bus pulled over right behind me.

Can’t open the passenger door, and my alignment may be screwed up. But I didn’t hit the bus, so it seems the insurance responsibility is mine, even tho she screwed up. I need to call the bus owner and find out if they’re going to put in a claim to cover my deductible or what. I don’t have $1K just sitting around. Dammit.

I’ve got an appointment on Thurs morning to have the car evaluated for repair. No clue how long it will take, but we don’t have rental coverage, so it’s going to make dealing with Toby interesting, not to mention our trek across to Oxford to pick up the car on Sunday. Dammit.

Not happy. Not amused. Very stressed. Dammit. It wasn’t my fault, but I’ve still got to pay.

According to Kelley Blue Book, the car is worth around $2600 for trade-in. I don’t want them to total it, dammit. Guess we’ll see…

We have 5 48 hour old kittens at the barn. I know pictures are mandatory but mom and bubs need their rest and we can only look at them through the window. The new family is in the room with heat, a litter box, fuds, and water. Mom is a marmalade and 4 kittehs are gingers and one is torti.

I did! Thanks for the reminder.

flyboy My gearhead buddies say that low test fuel, with the alcohol in it, doesn’t winter over well, and one should use premium for the last few fills of the season.

FCM Glad you’re ok after the bus incident.

wet one Pics when available, please.

I got my 110 wooden slats wood grained. It’s really annoying to have to do 3 sides of these little pieces. I hope my math was right and I made enough slats. I think I made 10 extra.

Howdy all! Bummer bout the car FCM.

I had my eyes checked today and one has improved since my last prescription. Second sight the Dr said. Anyway, two pairs on order and almost $700 poorer. Gotta be able to see.

Sunny sorry about Pop. I hope it’s temporary.

I hope everyone stays warm and has a good rest of the week.

Forgot** Cookie** I got 5 times what we paid for my house and lived in it 28 years. I now have a paid for house and a nice nest egg.

I hired a company to mow my yard. They have an app so yesterday I went to it and asked the guy to cut it a little shorter this time coming up this week. He wrote me back that he will do my yard on his own for cheaper and he had left a card on my porch. Kinda shady but I told him let’s just go through the company this week and we’ll discuss when I see him. I am considering buyer a mower, a riding mower.

Catch everyone later.

butters I’ve got to do the eyeglasses thing soon, too. I can’t read the instructions on food packages, I find myself taking off my glasses (I’m far sighted) and using the lens for my worse eye as a magnifier for my better eye. Time for bifocals, I think. I tried progressives, but didn’t last a week with them.

I love my riding mower, but you’ll still need a push mower to get into corners and do edging. I have a fence around the yard, and if’n I don’t use the push mower right next to the fence it gets shaggy.

Moar food time! Must to think on dinner.
