** VanGogh** I hope that’s your nick. I have a privacy fenced back yard. I can’t do two mowers. I’ve never used a mower in my life but I did see a weed whacker hanging in my garage. I guess it is sonny boy’s. The mower I’m thinking of getting is a John Deere 42” deck. Made in the good old USA. My yard is not huge. The entire lot is 10,000 SQ FT and the house takes up 2000 of that. My son wants me to get a zero turn mower but not at twice the price.
I love progressives. That and the anti glare and the transition lenses is what drives the price up. I have vision insurance which paid for the exam and $150 toward glasses. I need mine to read too but of course I have to drive with them as I couldn’t read the eye test at DMV without them. The progressives take a bit to get used to. I know my late husband never could use them.
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got launderes and da yahd got mowed. Go Us! I think this may be the last year we mow ourselves. I am leanin’ toward the idea of a twice a month lawn service. We can afford it and we’re gettin’ too old for this stuff. In other news, I actually cooked. Cubed steak 'n gravy, rice, and peas and butterbeans. 'Twas good if’n I do say so myself, plus leftovers for tomorrow.
Wheelie congrats on the lot! Now you can build your dream home. You get to look at door hinges, drawer pulls and sundry other hardware. You get to look at itty bitty paint and/or wallpaper samples and imagine how they look smeared or papered on an entire wall. You get to look at all kinds of floor coverin’ samples and imagine how that itty bitty sample will look on an entire floor in your house or throughout your house. If you have brick, you get to talk about various types of brick and mortar. Such fun! Yeah, I had da cave built. Won’t do that again.
sonny smart move to sic your father’s sibs on him. Sibs can give all kinds of grief nobody else can.
flyboy nuttin’ wrong with pettin’ doggies with the owner’s permission. Then again, dogs seem to seek me out for pets. I am apparently an ear skritches magnet.
MOOOOOOM YIKES! First, glad you were not hurt. Vehicles are replaceable, but you are not. Hope you’ve calmed down somewhat now. You need medicinal ice cream and FCD should give you a foot rub. Tell him I said so.
WetOne do the kitties make you a grandma?
Butters my .02 here. If you like the lawn service or even just this particular guy I say go for that rather than doin’ it yourself. Like I mentioned earlier, I shall consider that route next year over continuin’ to mow myself.
Thanks Swampy for your two cents. I kinda agree. I’m gonna try to meet this guy later this week and see how much he will charge not using the company. I do know I am on a bi monthly schedule but once rainy season hits (June-Nov) and it’s blazing hot it will need probably weekly mowing.
butters Have transition lenses figured out how to work inside a car yet? I got some a few years back and the UV blocking from car windows made them not work where I needed them most, while driving. The weird thing about my eyes is I, according to New York state, don’t need my glasses to drive. I’ve got one eye that can see the chart OK. But I can’t read little text, by the time I can focus on it, it’s too far away to see.
Funny story, at Christmas I was back with the family and we played Trivial Pursuit, I was trying to read the questions and couldn’t do it, my dad said “Hang on” and went and got me my grandma’s old magnifying glass.
And, yeah, if you’ve never run a mower, why start now?
FCM I’m sorry about the car. It looks like you take very good care of it. I hope the cost isn’t as bad as it looks like it might be.
WetOne Kittens? I want a kitten. I will accept pictures when available. How is Ariel? How many days to retirement?
VanGo When you say adding wood grain, are you using paint or is it a texture? I use progressive lenses just fine in a car. It’s definitely worth revisiting.
Butters! Good to see you. How is the foot? I agree with Swampy. I’d say let someone else mow the lawn. It get old really (really) fast.
Wheelie congrats on the lot! I’m glad that came through.
FCM, just glad no one was hurt, sounds like the bus driver was easy on the brake and looking elsewhere, but proving that is probably more than the insurance folks will want to do. Hope the repair cost isn’t too bad.
swampy, I plan to push-mow my yard until I’m 70 (2023) and then evaluate getting a service. Don’t mind doing it now, but when it gets into the 90’s this summer…
VanGo, like Butters I use progressives and usually the first few days with a new prescription are trouble, but then I adjust and they are fine. Hope the bifocals help.
wet one, not a cat person, but glad the kits are being looked after. Pictures when you have them.
OK, into internettin’ and readin’ mode. All y’all take care.
I’m glad I got Mauser walked a little early. It’s raining hard, with thunder and lightening…I knew we were in for some weather, but thought it would be later. And of course the news said there might be tornado watches in the viewing area.
Oh no, that is horrible. I’m glad you are physically OK, very sorry about the expense and bother. It would be great if the bus company would pay for your deductible out of gratitude that you didn’t hit their bus.
Better too many than not enough. Plus, you gotta know that at least one of them will fit wonky.
I haven’t worn anything else since I had to move to bi-focals. My Az. driver’s license doesn’t require me to wear my specs, but that’s probably because I got it over thirty years ago. I think it’s kind of concerning that I can legally drive without my glasses when I probably couldn’t manage to see my keyfob well enough to unlock my door without them. I’ll have to get my eyes checked when I turn 65, so that box will be checked for the next 20 years.
wet one, kitten pics are required when it’s possible. Good on you for giving them their space, that sort of sef control is often lacking when it comes to kittens.
Our “kitten” is currently helping hubs set up his new comp. GG is almost a year old and he still doesn’t understand that if someone puts a box over him, he can just stand up and the box will probably fall off. Instead, GG turns turtle and runs around all hunched over because the same box he was knocking over and pushing around has suddenly gained 300 lbs. This entertains hubs way too much.
I am SO happy my gamer husband has a real gaming comp again. It’s been a very long time since his last one died.
I will take Kitteh pics when allowed. Ursala Kitteh is their auntie, so I guess I’m a grandma. Mama Cheeto is a good mama. Ariel is doing fine. She turned 21 Saturday and is still as sassy as a 3 year old. Ursala Kitteh went to the v e t for a nail trim today. She was emotionally exhausted when done and slept for 6 hours.
So I got the mower to the shop. Turns out the guy also works on motorcycles. And he used to work for a Honda/Yamaha dealership in town. And he will pick up my R1. And he doesn’t live very far away from us. Maybe I’ll be back on two wheels soon?
SWMBO is after me every year to get my bike fixed and to ride it. Something always happens though, and I can’t. Last time she brought it up (a week or two ago) I said I could ride it to the office. She said no, because she’d worry about me. ‘Ride the bike! NO! Not THERE!’
Yikes! Moooom. I’m glad you didn’t sustain any damage on your person.
Squee! Kittens. Pics when they’ve had time to settle wet one.
I began wearing bifocals in my early twenties. I tried the progressive lenses available at the time and hated them (couldn’t see well enough close up to read, far away enough to drive well and they had a fuzzy line). Fifteen years ago, I graduated to trifocals. The eye doctor said that once most of us went to working on computers, he began prescribing more of them than he had in his entire career (he was nearing retirement at the time). The lines don’t bother me a bit.
Nice to be able to do that. We are moving into a senior community, so will be paying rent on an apartment (which is covered by our retirement income), so all the proceeds of sale will be liquid. We’re planning on helping the younger family members’ kids with college or trade school, etc. Of course, making plans is dangerous.
I assumed it was CA. I guess that worked out. Very CA-centric of me. I lived in Belmont in the early 90s. It makes me smile to think I might have passed your Grandpa at the pie shop or the pub.
well, today was an odd day …OK here’s what happened …I was woken up by IHSS wanting to do their yearly thing by phone for my aunt and disabled cousin … which since nothing changed this year took all of 5 minutes I was half asleep but it didn’t seem to matter …
About an hour I was woken up again by another this official who was coming over to do the same thing I did on the phone but since I was still half asleep I didn’t get his name or number … so I had to go on the help site and request a phone call … well I got one but it wasn’t him it was the first lady I talked to who said … Well she had already processed the papers and they were approved so if he calls tomorrow I have to tell him what’s going on
Now I haven’t had a non-expired id for years … the one thing I needed one for which is my state of ca and fed government health plan but until I needed new glasses and my teeth needed to fixed but well I either spent the money on something happened but after so many months you cant renew one you have to a brand new one which means going into DMV for paperwork well because of covid I haven’t been able to get there until recently
I made a joke about needing glasses and my uncle made a crack about if I wasn’t such a bum we could go to the DMV since he wasn’t doing anything today and said something about paying for it … well I ran with this and bundled us off to the DMV so after standing in 3 lines I will have a new id in a while … they say 4 to 6 weeks but some people say it could’d be early as two
After that, we found the best mex place in Lancaster (yes there was an actual vote lol)
Now for the next part I have to explain we’ve had adventures in making pineapple upside-down cake … one came out great but didn’t make it to the person we made it for cake no 2 we forgot the brown sugar but the person liked it … aunt was annoyed we messed it up so we stopped at the store for taco supplies and more pineapple cake but the first 2 stores didn’t have any
And on the way out I did a no I got one of those low income “free” phones and it came with a nice little tablet … but since I got in some trouble I’m not supposed to have them apparent;y but I thought they’d tell me, no but since I had my ebt card and the receipt from the DMV I got both after an hour in a half waiting … so yeah this might not go well …
The last adventure is when we made puc#3 I went to turn it upside down well it flopped on to and over the plate because I don’t think it was baked long enough… and we used the pineapple juice instead of water , so here I am ,
Now my condolences for another crappy week for us …I hope we and ours do get better and have to pay less for whatever comes up … and days for the good news such as they were I think we’ll need to take what we can get at this point
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 59 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 85 and mostly N.O.S. We also have a HIGH WIND ADVISORY in effect through tomorrow. Today we shall procure provisions. That is the big task. The rest of the day shall be spent in sloth. Sup shall be yestiddy’s leftovers.
WetOne I am sure Ursula needed the rest. After all, gettin’ one’s nails done is a very exhaustin’ adventure!
shades since they did not tell you no, maybe you are not in trouble anymore. Enjoy the phone and tablet.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate being amongst the general public attire. Woe!
The event I’m building all this stuff for is an hour and a half from my house, and the only time we can get in is at 8:30, so I’m up early, so I can get the info I need. I have to trace the shape of the front of the stage, so I can build a wall to hide it. Really it’s kind of a dumb idea, because only the front few rows of seats will see it, but hey, they’re paying for it.
