Spring Has Unsprung- A Chilly MMP

Still somewhat stressed after yesterday’s adventure. Today I need to call the body shop where the car will be inspected and the bus company to see if they’ll pay for the repairs and a rental car. NOT looking forward to any of that. I also need to empty my car of pretty much everything, especially the babby seat and Roxy’s booster seat. So I have that to look forward to.

At least the day is starting above freezing - that’s something I guess. Toby is on his way here, FCD is on his way to Oxford, and I got barely 4 hours of sleep, so I’m a mess. I am soooooo ready for our Bahamas cruise.

Our cabin has been assigned - midships near the elevators - convenient, I guess. We’ve been on this particular ship twice before, but I can’t remember a whole lot about it. Guess we’ll see in 2 weeks. Soooooo ready…

Happy Wednesday, I guess. :stuck_out_tongue:

Good morning everyone.

I have read all (a lot to catch up on!), but hope you’ll excuse me if I didn’t retain it all.

Sunny, I’m sorry about your Dad. I hope his sib can talk some sense into him.

FCM, I’m sorry about the wreck, but am very happy you or no one else was hurt. I hope the bus company is cooperative. I’m glad your cruise is coming up soon; you really need a rest from things.

nellie, I’m so glad you got away from your bad situation.

I had to call out sick yesterday and was pissed about it. I have too much to do. I am still feeling pretty crappy, but am going to give it the ol’ college try.

Well, I suppose I should get on with the day. Have a good one everyone.

Morning all. Am sleeping 8 hours a night according to the clocks, but really don’t feel like it. Maybe it’s my body adjusting to the exercise I’m doing. It’s supposed to get to 80F today, but strong wind and storms are due about 7pm according to the Weather Wizards, so inside is where I’ll be this evening. Will try to get up to 1,500 yards in the swimmin’ pool today, and if I can I’ll probably stabilize there for awhile until I’m ready to go for the mile.

Taters, that ol’ college try will land you a Drs. visit; if you’re sick listen to your body (I was no different from you, I’d work when not feeling good, this is elder wisdom…)

FCM, that’s probably a good spot for you on the ship, limits the amount of movement for FCD. Enjoy.

shady, I’m not always sure I understand, but I do see that it has been an adventurous time; hope any future PUD Cakes are perfect.

Flyboy, hope the motorcycle get fixed and you can ride it wherever you want.

OK, paper retrieved and pills taken, so onward into the day. All y’all have a good Hump Day.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s grey and gloomy here, and chilly. My irk laptop says it’s raining outside, not sure how the laptop knows since the camera is pointing away from the window

Sunny the panel thing yesterday was something to listen to rather than participate in, so it was definitely on the time sink end of the scale. It was not very interesting either, but it’s also one of those things it pays to be seen attending.

mooooom sorry to hear about the car bump, I saw your post on farcebook too. I hope the bus company will admit their part in it, it does sound like they were at fault for not making it clear they weren’t waiting for you to pass them.

Taters hope you are feeling better today, sounds like you are ready for a bit of a break.

Talking of breaks, I am getting ever closer to our trip on Monday. We have currency, all the documents are in place apart from the pre-flight covid tests that we need to do on Monday. Everything hinges on those, otherwise we won’t get any further than Dublin!

Have read very little and retained nothing - sorry, y’all, I’m being a bad Mumper.
Something, something, cat, something, wood projects, something, heaving. Something.

I just wanted to check in, wave a brief “hello, I’m alive & also not dead yet” before slapping on some fluttery eyelashes and heading off to play with meat and run two friggin’ cash registers at once.

Thanks for the summary; have read, but retained even less.

Tis gloomy and kinda soggy here today, though it’s currently not actively raining I think.

We had another brilliant bit of campus planning today; the uni had a lunch intended to be a sort of equality and integration event between staff and students. On paper, not a bad idea, because this really is a very divided campus, with multiple groups who just have no contact with each other… except only about 5 students showed (possibly because they really didn’t make the ‘free food’ bit obvious) so it was mostly just staff, standing round chatting in their departmental areas.

They also scheduled another free lunch immediately before for the international postgrads (grad students to most of you). Yup, they held a diversity meeting without the international students, great plan!

I think I’m more or less having a day off today- I just can’t be bothered with anything.

Today is crazy blah. And one of my employees isn’t talking to me. I’ve always hated Wednesdays, but today is particularly irritating.

It’s drizzly and gross outside with a promise of thunderstorms, which will be nice. I would love to spend the whole day not talking to anybody and just knitting in a corner.

I lost my phone!

No, I’m not going to tell you how, except that it was a totally boneheaded thing to do. I.m disgusted with myself.
To make matters worse, I’m at the old house by myself. No Wifey or doggos, and just a 20(?) year old laptop I decided to bring with me 'cause I don’t like trying to read or type on my phone.
Anyway I’ll go over to the police dept in a bit to see if anybody turned it in. I found an old iPhone6 in a desk drawer this morning. If the police don’t have my phone, I’ll take the 6 to the Verizon store and see if they can program my number onto it. It was dead of course, so I’m charging it now. Fortunately I found the charging cable. So when that’s done I’ll go.
What an idiot.

You don’t have to share with us if you don’t want to, but I doubt you’ll have the most boneheaded phone story.
I was on a cruise, and during a stopover in Nassau, I went for a swim in the clear, calm and warm Caribbean water off the beach at the Atlantis. It was wonderful, until I realized I had my iPhone in the pocket of my bathing suit.
It could not be revived. That was a very expensive dip.

Oh Wheelz that is so bad. I lost my first pair of glasses in fourth grade. I wasn’t used to wearing them yet and went swimming in our lake, and they came off. I was scared but had to tell my parents. I was relieved when they didn’t chew me out.

shady I love me some pineapple upside down cake. But doesn’t pineapple juice make things not set due to some bizarre acid/pectin? I know you aren’t supposed to use fresh pineapple in Jell-O. Not like anyone here makes Jell-O molds.

Fresh pineapple juice is an issue in gelatin, but so far as I know doesn’t cause trouble anywhere else, unless you consume so much of it that said enzyme starts eating you right back.

I think I’ve mentioned this pineapple upside down cake story before, but just in case I haven’t

Over fifteen years ago my mother sent in a recipe request for pineapple upside down cake, baked in a cast iron skillet, to a well known magazine. She anticipated getting maybe a couple dozen replies, and planned to thank them all. But then the replies started coming and coming and coming, until the mail deliverer asked mom what was going on. By Christmas she got the guy a gift, for at least eight or nine hundred replies had come in. And since old magaizines keep getting spread around the replies trickled in for years. We stopped counting at around twelve hundred. Last year, two months after my mother passed. we got another! It had been fifteen years. I did write a nice note to that lady, telling her about my mom’s passing, and saying she would have been so tickled to get yet another response.

The lawn company just left! First mowing of the year/season. I didn’t expect them to start for another week or two, but some of the grass out back (which might actually be weeds) had gotten a little shaggy. The big back yard is perfect for Bailey, and I’m in no hurry for her to leave me, but I already know that whenever her time comes I’ll be hoping to move to a townhouse with little/no yard.

My replacement credit card arrived yesterday, and my credit union surprised me by issuing a card that can be used for contactless payment. They tend to be a little behind the times, so it’s always nice when they introduce something “newfangled.”

Yesterday afternoon I learned that the FDA has approved second boosters for people 50 and over; I have an appointment to get mine tomorrow morning. I’m slowly starting to go out more, and with many masking and social distancing rules being currently suspended I think having the second booster will help me feel a little more protected. I’ll get as many boosters as I can!

:crossed_fingers: !

Happy Hump Day!

Got the brat off to daycare.
Icky drive as it is raining while the temp is just below freezing.

I have a ton of stuff to do today, yesterday’s attempts at getting stuff done didn’t go so well.
It’s always something, always! ALWAYS!
One hospital bill is so screwed up I have been tempted to call the AG, or whoever it is that deals with that stuff. They receive my payments, but they don’t apply them to my account. A new company took over the billing and I have to send them bills and receipts to prove what I have paid. I hope they do a better job, but I’m not counting on it.
A while back I bought a new printer, it came with an offer of instant ink, in which they take a monthly $3 fee and send ink on a regular basis. Today I needed to put in the new cartridge, and it doesn’t fit. I have stuff I need to print.
Unemployment is still messed up, and I’m getting grumpy as f around here. I have a list, and can’t do have the shit on it because of somebody else’s fuckups.

Congrats Wheelz

Sorry about the messed-up car FCM. I seem to remember hearing something once about how it’s better to hit something than to mess up your car to avoid it.

You are very talented/patient VanGo

I saw the lawn guy yesterday when we got back from picking up groceries. He’s going to start mowing in two weeks, but I think my yard won’t need it.

The grocery store was out of saltines, again, even though they were on sale. I decided to go out to da jungle to see what they had. One box was $12, I think not! I could get two boxes for 17.50. Nope. I could get three boxes for $20, still a nope. So, I ordered a carton of 12 boxes for $36.
I’ll take some to my mother’s.
I try to cut back on carbs, but sometimes a few crackers settle my stomach.

Well, back to laundry and making phone calls.

Shades It doesn’t sound all bad. New ID, phone and tablet, Mexican food. Take the good and don’t look back.

VanGo I hate early days, but getting paid is good. For some reason, I thought you were building sets for a trade show. I have not been paying proper attention.

Moomm Be kind to yourself today. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug. You’ll feel shaky and stressed for a while yet.

Taters you’re an early bird, so I know I’m too late to chime in, but I’m doing it anyway: Metal Mouse is right. If you feel like crap, take another day. Call it a lesson from COVID and take care of yourself.

BooFae my computer says it’s sunny with zero chance of rain, but it’s cloudy and windy. I’m not sure computers always know what they’re talking about.

Shoe I’m glad you’re alive. Please eat.

Nut : waves : I was wondering where you were, but I figured school was being irksome. Have a restful day off.

talky One of your employees isn’t talking to you? Are they in high school? I swear, the pandemic has regressed everyone’s social development by several decades.

Bumba Bummer. As someone who has managed to drop her phone in the toilet (stupid tiny pockets), I sympathize. Have you gone online to see if you can find the location of the phone using the portal? The store should be able to help you with that.

Cupcake Have you thought about doing a baking blog? I’ll bet you have all kinds of neat stories (like that one) and recipes to share. I would follow.

sari you’re right. If it’s not one thing, it’s something else. I hope your day is slightly less irritating.

Today I need to get a gift together for the neighbors who helped my dad when he fell. I hope to take Akiko out for a bit, and I need to make some doctors appointments. I think Akiko’s nose is healing up. She started trying to burry me again yesterday. She uses her nose and pushes whatever is handy over me, for I am precious and must be hidden. Or something. Akiko logic.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Yeah, it’s been a crappy day. But it was a staff-only day at my daughter’s school so she got off early and came for Toby around 1. I just got back from taking the trash and recycling - I was stupid nervous when driving. eeeesh.

Our boat is in the water, and FCD nearly was, too, trying to load stuff. I haven’t heard from him in a while - I hope he’s OK. Time for a text.

I’m sleeping with Mel tonight. And I’m going to ask FCD to take my car to the body shop tomorrow. It may be sexist, but I expect he’ll get better answers than I would, plus he knows to ask some stuff that I might not think of. And better for me to wrangle Toby than to leave it to Grandpa…

I think I need to sit and read a while.

It’s society that’s still sexist. You’re just being smart.

(Some things shouldn’t be the way they are, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t the way they are…yanno?)

Afternoon all. Swam 1500 yards (or close to it, counting all those lengths of the pool really wears me down…) and sauna’d for about 25 minutes, so wet and sweat today. They are closing soccer practice fields at 6pm due to predictions of some coming weather, so will have to get a move on to get my walk in. It has reached 80F today, but tomorrow’s high is only going to be 62F, so it could get nasty tonight as that cold air hits the warm front.

FCM, that man is going to drive you to drink…a lot more coffee…

Sunny, Akiko sounds like a real sweetheart; albeit a weird sweetheart, bit one nevertheless.

Sari, hope the bills get unscrewed soon; wonder if the Hospital or the billing company has an ombudsman…I think they are the ones who deal with FUBAR’s like yours.

Oopsie, thanks for the news on 2nd boosters; will check in the places near me and see if I can get on their schedule. Also need to schedule an eye Drs.’ appointment for April and get my Annual Physical before leaving on my cruise May 4th.

Oh, and FCM, here’s some good news for thee and me; CDC drops cruise travel risk assessment after two years amid COVID

OK, have eaten 4 graham crackers and now it is a test of wills not to go back and get any more. Don’t know why I bought them, I’m much to easily tempted and Graham Crackers are sooo goooooood…

I know it’s been a while… a long while… but I’m back… Juliet is back. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
