STAAAAARRRRR Trekkin'

Scrape 'em off, Jim!

Heck yeah, it’s a real song. I even have it on a cassette tape!

Check the various Doctor Demento albums on Amazon. The Doctor’s albums, borrowed from my local library, were where I first heard it. And it’s a scream!

In post #10, I linked to the MP3.

“What’s On Your Mind (Pure Energy)” by Information Society

One of my top 5 songs of all time. IS is/was/are big Star Trek fans, evidenced by some of their samples. I love when I accidentally stumble across a TV show or movie they sampled from.

It’s amazing. Even as big a fan as I am, some Trekkies still manage to scare the hell out of me.

Apparently there’s even a video floating around. This site has stills and a clip (click the first still).

Woah, I never knew this was an actual mildly popular song. I always remembered it as some ditty my sister sang at Girl Scout Camp.

I’m wagering the lyric in the title has, instead, pulled in all the Dr. Demento listeners who noticed it.

I’ll go along with Ferret Herder’s assessment. The song supposedly hit #1 several times but I think that’s only on Demento’s Silly Five.

I was just listening to that last night. It never fails to make me smile. (Don’t most people decorate the tree to Christmas Carols? Not me - Dr. Demento. Kinda weird, huh?)
(‘boldly going forward, still can’t find reverse’)

Although, IMHO, even better is…

Fish heads, Fish heads
Rolly poly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads
Eat them up
Yum

It was the 41st of April, being a quadruple leap year…

…I was driving in downtown Atlantis. My Barracuda was in the shop, so I was in a rented Stingray…

Captain:

I am the very model of a modern Starfleet commander,
I’ve databases on galaxies and star systems far and near,
I know Federation leaders and quote our mission’s order
To boldly go forth, explore, meet alien babes, and score;
I’m very well prepared to challenge any thug or dictator,
I understand the principles and laws upheld everywhere,
About biologic’ evolution I’ve learned o’er so many years,
With many cheerful facts about elongated Vulcan ears.

All:

With many cheerful facts about elongated Vulcan ears.
With many cheerful facts about elongated Vulcan ears.
With many cheerful facts about elongated Vulcan ears.

Captain:

I’m very good at human and non-human office politics;
I know to propose peace or truce when uttered threats are prolix:
In short, in matters data-basic on star systems far and near,
I am the very model of a modern Starfleet commander.

All:

In short, in matters data-basic on star systems far and near,
He is the very model of a modern Starfleet commander.

[insert several more stanzas here…]

I don’t know the rest of you people, but I wrote my little ditty off the top of my head.

(The original idea went something like,
“You’re being illogical,
emotional, irrational!
You’re being irrational,
so sod off,” he snapped.

…but I changed it, because that sounded like a flame.)

Indeedy. That’s why I’m here. Recognized the title immediately.

The good Doctor just finished his series of 3 Christmas shows. Next week is the “Funny 25,” the show consisting of the most-requested songs of the year. If you want to hear the best that comedy music has to offer, next week is the time to tune in (well, besides all the Tony Goldmark (and other) Harry Potter stuff. Can’t stand it myself…). Here is a list of stations, if you don’t know where to find the show in your area.

I think the show used to be a lot better. There’s some great stuff coming out now, but overall, I mean. Or maybe it was just the surrepetitiousness of listening to it quietly in my room and occasionally having my parents say, “WHAT in the world are you listening to?!”

There’s also Stone Trek episode no 5 based on the song.

Oddly enough I mentioned the Barnes and Barnes album where that came from in this thread.
You should check it out - Fishheads is the least strange thing on it.

There is nothing like a flame,
Nothing in the world.
There is nothing you can name
That is anything like a flame.

Nothing looks like a flame.
Nothing cooks like a flame.
Nothing acts like a flame.
Or attracts like a flame.
Nothing drinks like a flame.
And nothing stinks like a flame.

There ain’t a thing that’s wrong with any man here,
That can’t be cured by flaming him near
A flamey, flamingly, flamile, flaminine, flame!!!

I would like to personally curse the OP, since I have now been unable to get this freakin’ song out of my head. Being nostalgic is one thing, but my brain’s been taken over…

How Ironic. The moderator, C K Dexter Haven, uses reply counts as the barometer to discern what is suitable first page content, what’s clutter and what’s simply a thread dedicated to a novelty song.
