Star Trek: Enterprise

Tucker’s failed romances with alien women are becoming a recurring theme.

The Anti-Kirk.

Tucker: “What if she gets hurt? What’re you gonna do then? Program a holographic doctor?”

Spock was never green, he was yellow because of the copper in his blood. (Originally, he was supposed to be red, but tests showed how phoney that makeup looked on film.)

I’ve already speculated on the reasons for Tuvok’s pigmentation elsewhere.

Skin color aside, and with the exception of Selar in TNG and T’Pol in ENT, I cannot recall a realistic Vulcan in any of the post-TOS/TAS Treks.

Both Spock and Sarek were, of course, in TNG as well, but they were among the original Vulcans, who included Stonn, T’Pring, and T’Pau. They all had their roles down pat, but every other guest actor seems to have played theirs with way too much emotion and not enough stoicism.

I’ve never particularly cared for the way Romulans were depicted in later series (or even in the third season of TOS) either, but that’s another issue.

Yeah, and the theme from TNG was recycled from an incredibly boring movie, but I’m glad you at least didn’t have bad intentions.
I don’t know who Diane Warren is.

At least it was recycled from a Star Trek movie.

Diane Warren is a writer of insipid pop music for acts whose careers have jumped the shark. Some of her tunes are “Look Away” by Chicago, “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith, and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” by Starship.

No discussion of * Enterprise* would be complete without picking apart the theme:

I didn’t go to the extremes of picketing or never watching the show, but I would have preferred music like the theme from the mirror episodes.

I recorded it from a satellite feed and could fast forward through the theme, save the mirror episodes.
They went to a digital and hence encrypted satellite feed to save money the last season.
My local affiliate cut parts of the pilot to add commercials.

“It’s a dry heat.”

Huh. I’ve just lost some respect for Simon Pegg.

I’ve never been more proud of him.

I agree with Simon Pegg. The song is sentimental disposable pop shit and had no business getting anywhere near Star Trek.

Thank goodness for fast forward. I hardly ever watch intros after I’ve seen them a few times.

Gotta love Youtube though. In a Mirror, Darkly theme!

Dude!
You rule!
Here is your agonizer back.

“Is this what humans refer to as… feeling sorry for themselves?”

I wonder, since TOS had such a 60’s feel to it and TNG had an 80’s/90’s feel to it, if this was an attempt to help make it feel more like Enterprise was set in an earlier era.

Given the frequency of seeing skin on T’Pol I’m not surprised they didn’t keep her makeup consistent. heh

Seriously if you are criticizing the production quality, I have no quibble about that.

As for the theme. Considered just as music, it kind of blew. But add the visuals montage and it worked for me.

The montage was indeed cool, but not as cool as the mirror universe montage.

Singularity was a pretty good episode. Throughout my viewing of this show all the way back to early in season one I’ve had the feeling that Doc Phlox had a somewhat sinister presence that I couldn’t shake. He’s obviously one of the good guys but I still get the feeling that I’d be somewhat frightened of him in real life. They turned that up to 11 in this episode to great effect.

I guess I’ll have to watch Deep Space 9 when I’m done with Enterprise. That’s another one I’ve never seen a single episode of, though I know more about it from other sources so I wouldn’t be going in completely cold like with Enterprise.

I like Doc Phlox. He has an elder species presence about him that makes Vulcans seem childish.
