Star Trek: Picard discussion thread

This page keeps stopping and refreshing, but thanks anyway.

Is there any chance that this will be on Hulu? I assume no but they get a lot of broadcast shows.

I think I read somewhere it’ll eventually be available for purchase on Amazon Prime but I don’t know when.

No, this is part of the Balkanization of television. Each streaming service will have a handful of flagship properties and you’ll be expected to subscribe to all of them or miss out. I predict mass piracy returning, but that¡s just me.

Sigh… yep. We already have Netflix and Amazon and we just started up Hulu because my wife wanted to watch the Handmaid’s Tale (And if you want to watch numerous long lingering shots on Elizabeth Moss’s face, then I have a show for you). I really don’t want CBS All Access even though I want to watch the new Star Treks. I assume everyone is going to make their own streaming platform and grab some cash before there is some sort of critical mass and collapse.

Everyone’s a critic. Was he up for the role himself?

Well, for Hulu there’ll be the Disney+ superpack that gets you Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu+. And I do know you can subscribe to CBS All Access on Amazon but I don’t know the cost.

Cost is the same - I moved my CBS to Amazon ot have one less place to go look for things.

He was too young for the role when it was cast. The usual complaints of the younger generation - “I could’ve done it better!”

The wife did the same thing simster did - moved it all onto Amazon Prime, and for the same reason. It will be worth it especially if Picard gets more seasons, which seems likely. The producers are already reaching out to other ST alumni for guest-star shots in Season 2.

They should make a Star Trek-specific Hulu called Sulu.

George Takei had wanted to do a show about Sulu as captain of the Excelsior. He had to settle for one Voyager episode.

Since you have Amazon Prime Video, simply move out of the United States to one of the 200 countries (Canada not included) where Amazon holds the international streaming rights and will stream episodes within 24 hours of their US release.

That could be a lulu!

OH, MY!!! x

While we’re waiting, I’m loving this exchange on Twitter.

It’s great to see Riker (and acceptable to see Troi), but how great would it be to see Ro Laren?

Or Guinan. Have the producers reached out to Whoopi Goldberg?

Zero amount of great.

I’m not particularly keen to see either Ro or Guinan outside of a brief cameo.

In fact, I’d rather they didn’t just gratuitously cram in characters purely for fan service. If it actually makes sense for the story, let’s have them, but none of this “Picard accidentally bumps into Vash at the corner store on Starbase 43” nonsense.

But I think Ro makes sense here. She’s exactly the type of person to fit in the “sometimes you need to go outside of Starfleet to do the right thing” idea we’ve got going on.

As for Guinan–I could see it being useful for Picard to meet his real councilor, the person who helped him when he had trouble knowing the right thing to do. Granted, it looks like he already handles that on his own in this case, but maybe something could come up.

I mean, she was kinda important to the whole Hugh/Borg thing, as well as to the idea of whether it’s slavery to manufacture sentient androids to do all the tasks the humanoids don’t want to do. And both of those things seem to be highly relevant to the new show.
