Apparently, this was indeed a false rumor. Kurtzman has spoken out in a podcast about his plans for Star Trek: Picard and his plans for other Star Trek-related projects on CBS All Access.

That article makes it seem less like he was fired because the show is terrible and more the show isn’t what it is because the dude is stretched thinner then Slenderman.

Not so lame. Picard and Seven both were assimilated by the Borg. Seven would have had a connection with Picard during his time as Locutus. Even after being rescued, both seem to have a vestigial connection to the Borg, and would presumably have had some type of telepathic connection to each other.
