Star Trek Picard Review

I will give them this - that was the best callback ever.

Starting to enjoy the season - hope it keeps it up.

Picard never commanded the USS Enterprise in this reality, hence never went back in time to 1893 San Francisco and met Guinan.

You’re right. If that Picard has gone back in time, he would have killed Mark Twain and kept the skull.

I would agree that it would be unlikely that he went back to 1893 in the altTimeline - but what evidence do you have to support he never commanded the enterprise?

Thats an awful headache to unravel since they are before the divergence. In order of likelihood i would place:

The writers forgot or didnt care: 95%
Guinan sees things differently so she doesn’t recognize Picard in his android body: 4%

The timey-wimey convulation presented here (Which means Picard would have to fail until he decided on a course of action where Guinan recognized him…hmmm…I like that, but it wont happen) 1%

edit: Btw…I think I read that the woman Q was talking to was a “Picard”…and we know ANOTHER Soong will show up in this series…FFS. They litter the timeline.

I guess the timeline divergence is the failure or success of the Europa mission?

3rd option - Guinan is able to jump to differerent time periods (The Nexus) and just hasn’t been to 1893 yet.

(Is she the 15th Dr?)

Picard’s Confederation ship was called the CSS World Razer. It looked like the Ent-D but had a lot of military hardware bolted onto it. There was a painting of it in his study.

thanks for the reminder.

A couple of interesting articles:

The have added lots of little and obscure Easter eggs this season, so I doubt it.

The punk rocker being the same actor from The Voyage Home is pretty awesome.

So the timeline was messed-up enough so that “Times Arrow” didn’t happen…but “The Voyage Home” did?

Hey, I’m just going by the rules the showrunners have set. We’re several layers deep on time travel schenanigans now. I half expect Picard to pull a Rick and Morty (With Guinan being Morty’s Time Crystal)

Picard: (Takes a step west) “You remember me now?”
Guinan: “No”
Picard: (Takes a step north) “Now?”

No, The Voyage Home did not happen in this timeline, but the same actor from The Voyage Home who was the punk rocker did the same thing he did in that movie.

Except he clearly remembered the events from The Voyage Home - he grabbed his neck and apologized - “I just really like that song”.

It was a in joke for the audience (it’s also a different song).

absolutely a callback for the audience - seemed like the same song, but I’ll give that.

It was a fun episode for sure. Something that seems to have been missing in the Kurtzman Star Trek world. Maybe it was the director—Marty Mcfly’s mom, Lea Thompson.

The song in “Voyage Home” was “I hate you”. The one in Picard was “I still hate you”. Anybody else notice the reference to “Jackson Roykirk” (Creator of the Nomad space probe) and “Chris Brynner”, the tech guy in the DS9 episode “Past Tense”?

I wish since we’re in in 2024 of the Trek universe…they would …how to put this…lean into highlighting the differences between our world and the timeline they’ve created. Rather then easter eggs. I think they’ve created a rich world but have barely touched it. Eugenics Wars, Khan, Nomad probe, WW3…

Heh. I just looked it up and the Bell Riots take place in 2024 in San Fran. Maybe someone gets Sisko killed so someone has to take his place to become the Bell who became the Bell…but then the Dominion will win the war…or does that mean the war never starts??..ugh.

So it would seem the Watcher is part the Aegis (the same people behind Gary Seven) or at least her technology at the end looked awful lot like the tech Gary used.

I have loved the Easter eggs (I am sucker for that). Some have been really subtle (like all the Sanctuary District Signage looking like the Signage in the DS9 two parter and like how when they arrested Rios they mentioned the same kind of ID card that was in the DS9 episode).

I also liked how they hung a lantern on the weird ending of last season by having Rios talk about how dumb it was. Smartly I think they just want to move on from it an pretend it didn’t happen.

I have really enjoyed this season so far. It’s not perfect (Raffi is really really annoying this year and their attempt to turn her and Seven into a Buddy comedy seemed more desperate than funny) but I am curious to see where it goes.
