Star Wars: AOTC: Q about Yoda's actions (spoilers, of course)

I saw it and seek enlightenment on 2 points:

A. In PM Yoda says of the Sith “Always 2 there are a Master and an Apprentice” Darth Maul is split and the new apprentice is … Count Dooku? Does this make sense? For the 50-something Sith Lord to take a 65-year-old man as his apprentice?..

B. Also in the obligatory chit-chat before throwing down, doesn’t Yoda call Dooku his padewin (sp) meaning HIS apprentice? (Are all Jedi his apprentices or does he mean this literally?) But really the question is how can Dooku be “Mysterious” as the opening scroll indicates. Theoretically hasn’t Dooku been a Jedi since he was 3 or under? What could possibly be mysterious about him to the Jedi council and so presumably to the Government?

OK, here’s my question:
When Anikan gets his hand cut off, he gets a weird, shiny, C3P0-type hand. When Luke gets his hand cut off, he gets a neat, normal, skin-looking hand. What gives? Did technology really advance that much in 20 years?

I think the idea is that Dooku used to be Yoda’s padawan, then he became a full fledged Jedi knight, Qui-Gonn Jinn was his padawan, then Dooku became disillusioned and left the jedi order. He’s mysterious because no one knows what he’s been doing for all these years.

I don’t think there’s anything really wrong with it…the weaker Jedi is the apprentice to the stronger one. Dooku was a good Jedi, but is new to the ways of the Sith, so he is the apprentice to Sidious.

I think it’s the “Jedi 101” (don’t remember who said it first) course that Yoda teaches - all the children with the lightsabers, when Obi-wan went looking for the map to Kamino. So since Yoda teaches all new Jedi (including Luke), that would mean that all Jedi for the last 800 years are “his padawans”.

My only guess is that they thought he had retired or died (?) or something, but didn’t know that he turned to the dark side.

By the way, I saw it day before yesterday, and even though anakin isn’t a very good actor, the movie rocked.
