I’m curious… Is the band in the commercial where some guy named Glen gets up in the morning and has a Starbucks energy drink for breakfast and then is followed around town by them singing “Glen. Glen, Glen, Glen… Glen’s the man, he’s going to work …” to the tune of Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” actuallt Survivor. Gr8kat and I both think it might be but since I was only an infant in their heyday and she has done her best to forget that era (and rightfully so… it was fun to grow up in the 80s but I can’t imagine having to come of age in it but that’s another thread) so neither of us is sure.
I hadn’t seen the commercial so I went to the Starbuck’s site to see if it was there but I couldn’t get it to play. It’s on the page if anyone else wants to give it a whirl http://www.starbucks.com/grocery/dblshot.asp
wanders off shaking head and muttering about people who were infants during the '80’s who make me feel old
As a long-ago Survivor enthusiast, I can say that yes, it is them. The guitarist in the Starbucks commercial is Frankie Sullivan - you can see pics of them here. Lead singer Jimi Jamison recently returned to the band following the second departure of original vocalist Dave Bickler, who had replaced Jamison after Jamison had originally replaced Bickler in the early 90’s (stop me before my head explodes).
My boss claims that Jimi Jamison is the vocalist for the Bud Light “Real Men of Genius” commercials, but I am yet to see proof of that.
I never would have picked that up on my own. But now that you mention it, I believe you’re right. I sort of remember one of their TV commercials with the guy singing in the studio, and he does look a lot like the singer in the Starbucks commercial.
