What’s the story on this? Is it just one big…non sequitor? Is it referencing something I’m missing? Does it work for you?
And in case (like me) you can’t understand what he’s saying, apparently it’s “Berries and cream, berries and cream, I’m a little lad who loves berries and cream!”
Apparently this is one of a series of whackaloon advertisements from “TBWA/Chiat/Day, New York, and the Masterfoods creative group.” There’s an article here that describes the “little lad” ad, but doesn’t exactly explain it.
It fills me with considerable loathing, so I guess it’s a pretty good commercial.
Just yesterday this commercial came on as my wife and I were watching TV.
“Man, this commercial bugs the shit out of me,” I said.
“I know,” she replied, “you say that every time it comes on.”
In other words:
(1) I hate that commercial so much that I feel compelled to mention it out loud every time I see it; and
(2) I also hate it so much that my hatred overwhelms my short-term memory (no big feat) and makes me forget that I’ve already mentioned several times how much I hate it.
I think it’s hilarious, but then I loved the Spongmonkeys too.
I think it’s just because berries and cream sounds like a poncey sort of treat. “Oh, mummy, I love berries and cream ever so much!” So… um… they’re just running with it. Yeah, Little Lord Fauntleroy here loves his berries and cream. Jazz hands!
I believe the “little lad” is dressed like Gainsborough’s Blue Boy.
I like that commercial too. It’s so silly it cracks me up. (also a SpongeMonkey fan)
