What horrible secret does this Eden posses?
I’m liking Greer more and more as this show goes on. Letting his character lighten up a bit was good idea.
At first I thought I’d hate Greer, but he’s really growing on me.
The one thing that kept bugging me was the impending winter. Would an artifical planet need a tilted axis? If you can build an entire biosphere from scratch, can’t you use organisms that don’t rely on seasons (even if you have to engineer them from existing species)? Even if the planet builders needed/wanted seasons, wouldn’t it be more practical to use the shuttle to migrate to the other hemisphere rather than hunker down? It’s not like they have a lot of stuff.
I voted for “loved it”, but I’m having second thoughts. I was hoping for a farewell shot of those who chose to stay, since they had just made a huge, life-changing decision. Maybe if the series lasts long enough, they be written in when the aliens reappear.
But the main thing is Col. Young. Why the hell would he allow anyone to stay? Why would he abandon one of two (?) shuttles? Seem out of character to me, and I refuse to buy that it is now in character because of last week’s events.
So the military went back to Destiny and the rest stayed? Or everyone came back since the military did?
Kinda presumptuous to think the star and planet were put there just for them. Was it supposed to be thought provoking? What if God did it?
I knew someone was going to get pregnant! Dang, I was hoping not so fast. Now what? Chloe runs the day care center?
Well clearly recently introduced attractive widowed guy stayed. I’m glad some people stayed and that Young made some concession about leaving a shuttle for non military folk. I wonder what would have happened had TJ told him about the pregnancy rather than volunteering to return to the ship.
Is there a running count of dead / attrition?
I wonder if they will ever address the nature of the anomalous planet?
Of course, required musical montage video. But I like them.
I’m thinking that since the new widow guy stayed behind we will be seeing them again, along with the world building aliens.
I could see it. The guy is ripe for some misguided messiah complex, backed by the power of some aliens with mysterious motives.
If the series goes beyond two seasons (which I damn well hope it does as I am one of the few that genuinely thinks the show is brilliant) then I am pretty damn sure they will. They’ve probably got a lot of ideas built up so it’ll take a while before they look back and see what things they can revisit.
The show is definitely growing on me. Someone commented a while ago that there weren’t any characters that they found likeable or cared about, but I think that’s getting worked out as we get to know them. That was an interesting discussion of what to do about people who wanted to stay - that seemed like a realistic discussion. Yes, you can force people to do what you want with your guns and military personnel, but you just had a good demonstration of why you can’t just do that with this population of civilians and military.
Are we sure some people actually stayed? I also wasn’t too clear on that, because Chloe was among the ones wanting to stay, and she came back. And Young said if the entire military didn’t come back voluntarily, no one could stay and what’s his name looked like he wasn’t gonna come back even after blondie gave in. So did Young force them all to come back or did whatsisname give in after the scene ended? It was pretty sloppy storytelling, IMO.
It was my impression that everyone came back, as well. Though I can’t recall seeing the widower board Destiny at the end, it felt like we were meant to believe that no one stayed behind.
My TV comprehension is horrible. How do we know the guy was recently widowed? Was it part of a conversation that my ears missed?
I think Chloe came back because TJ came back, and she wanted to support her friend. I don’t think all of them came back.
Did anyone else wonder what TJ meant when she said she felt safer on the planet? Was it about the planet or about Young?
In the previous episode, Lieutenant Boobs made a comment about it.
Oh, so now I’m expected to comprehend and remember stuff from multiple episodes?
There was one scene in a different episode that seemed contrived and out of character. Eli was working at a console and the widower guy was on his monitor, in a lab someplace, and they were testing video communications or something. TJ and Sgt. Knockers came bouncing up behind Eli giggling and Sgt. Knockers made a joke about the widower being cute and a good prospect because he’d been married, showing commitment, and was currently single due to no fault of his own. Then Eli pointed out the guy could hear them.
Who’s the baby daddy?
Well, Young is the obvious candidate since we know he and TJ had a relationship just prior to winding up on Destiny.
Sci fi + babies is a combo that always goes down predicable, almost cliched paths. If carried to term something is going to happen to that baby. Who knows what, but it will not be a normal child.
