I know many of you are fans of the Onion just like myself. Today I started writing some of my own articles and decided that I could easily start my own website that was basically the same thing. This website will be for entertainment purposes only; I have no ambition of “competing” with the Onion, and I don’t plan on finding sponsors.
I am interested in seeing if any of you would be willing to submit your own Onion-esque articles within that same brand of humor for my website. I will give full credit to the authors and add any links that you may want at the end of the article.
Haven’t started the site just yet . . . still writing the articles. Let me know what you think.
Hey, how about an article that points up the double meaning of the word “disarming”, as in:
Hans Blix: Saddam Hussein is disarming
Chief UN weapons inspector Hans Blix today announced that Saddam Hussein’s winning smile and coy personality are “disarming”. The warm welcome extended to Blix by Hussein’s palace staff further served to utterly charm the inspector.
Said Blix, “Saddam Hussein’s utter confidence and reassuring demeanor has won my heart. He is truly disarming.”
You might take a gander at the SDMBzine Teemings. I don’t want to discourage you from starting your own site but collaboration may make the job easier and there are already a lot of members contributing there.
Good luck. I really like the The Onion format but the content has gotten a little stale and predictable.
Good luck! I contributed eons ago to a webzine called “Comic Sutra” (not the Comic Sutra that exists today, an entirely different site) and I continue to contribute to other webzines from time to time now. I used to be more Onion-esque, now I’m pretty much the old married chick who writes about teenagers stealing my mascara.
If you find that starting a whole new 'zine takes up more time and energy that you’d rather spend writing, let me know, and I can direct you to a few up-and-running 'zines that accept humor (and other writings.)
Great suggestion . . . Rhinostylings . . . that very well may be it! I’ve spent all day on an article. But I can only work on it while my co-workers aren’t around . . .
Check out my currently abandoned site. Gave me some good fun for about six months, but I burned out on it. I get the urge and want to start it up again, every once in a while and I write something, but I haven’t gotten it together enough to actually continue it.
