State of the Nation: WE'RE SERIOUSLY FUCKED [long]

If only those marxists at Comedy Central would air a little more KitH, and less SNL. But of course, they won’t, being marxists and all.

Gobear: That’s progress. You know, you haven’t said how you feel about a Repbulican sweep either. Frightened, any? Told any of your friends and neighbors how you feel?

I still have this Mug if someone beats my “productive” numbers. Fair warning: If you dally until this afternoon it will be twice as challenging.

What progress? I’ve been against this adventurism in Iraq from the get-go, something you’d have picked up if you listened to anyone besides yourself.

And no, I’m not “frightened” by a Republican sweep. The Pubbies are a mixed lot, from the merely fiscally conservative but socially progressive to the far right-wing Christian loonies. You make them sound like the Dark Lords of the Sith taking over the Imperial Senate.

The Pubbies are not a faceless, monolithic host of evil, dedicated to chaos and destruction.

That would be the Southern Baptists.

Captain Amazing: I too, have Republican relatives and friends; I don’t find them evil, except for the evil of the banal and misguided; the evil of ignorance about the power that works in their name; the evil of hopelessness, despair; the evil of ceding power in their lives to a higher authority.

The true evil on the Republican side is reserved for positions of power. As far as anyone can tell, it’s a bedrock qualification for advancement within the party.

It’s a distinction I’ve made several times, to no effect, so I choose the formulation that at least doesn’t bowdlerize my sentence structure. Somewhat obviously, Thanksgiving doesn’t go “Pass me the gravy, you evil world-destroying bitch of a grandmother.”

As for what we can survive, I’m sure I personally can suffer an amputation. Should I therefore give a madman a bonesaw?

Great example of literary irony.

Well, first of all, there are some fairly high ranking Republican elected officials who aren’t even very conservative. Just to my north, Connie Morella is running for reelection to Congress on the Republican ticket. She tends to be pretty liberal. To the immediate north of me, Carol Schwartz, Republican DC city councilwoman is running for mayor against incumbent Democrat Anthony Williams, and I don’t believe they really differ on any issues.

Even those conservative members of the house and senate leadership aren’t evil. A few years ago, I interned for one of the Republican whips. He was really conservative, a full fledged member of the religious right, even. He was also a really nice guy. Republicans aren’t lunatics with bone saws. They’re decent people, who, to a large extent, support market based solutions to economic programs, and the adoption of laws to support their views of social morality. They don’t, however, want to turn the US into a military dictatorship, or round up groups of people and kill them en masse, or take over the world.

I have posted my notes here

No pictures, though.

More later.

I think it is strange that someone would say " I plan to vote ". Well what else? Is this a big decision? I thought that in a big democratic nation like yours it would be a sure thing. Everybody votes. But I guess it doesn’t apply to you. You have to register to vote. If you don’t register, you can’t vote. Why? It’s stupid.

And Ace, I agree to you completely!

Bj0rn? Is that you?

Well, hlujarn, obviously it’s the EVIL REPUBLICANS fault. Who else could dream up a plan so horrible?

You know, I believed the OP was dumb until I saw this photo. Now I know Republicans really are evil.

By the way, Shodan, I do think of you highly, so I put in a good word with the 27,000 people who turned out. You never responded, so be expecting a truckload of thongs in the very near future.

Don’t worry, I’m sure the people were mere figments of my imagination, and that my perspicacity and intelligence are highly over-rated. How simple it all seems!

You have nothing to fear from me, I am a simple moron. Go back to watching TV, Republicans. I am a raving Ultra Left Wing loony; I believe in coddling terror; I am Noam Chomsky: an aged hippie holding on to my glory; I am a young communist from a liberal college; I categorize unfairly; I am inaccurate; I am stupid.

So sorry to disturb your sleep! Pray continue your dreams of ascendant power and the trampling of the masses underfoot as you nestle in your money sacks, be at peace knowing there are no disagreements and can be no disagreements; you own the highest court in the land; the highest office in the land; the army, the navy; therefore the people must be with you and they are; the polls you commission tell you so; it must have been always this way. Your opponents must be, therefore, mewling sacks of cat shit – subhuman grotesqueries that must be stopped so that legitimate debate – between Republicans, or course – can continue.

This thread was mere discordant intermezzo between choruses of dreams of gold, throne and cross. Sleep peacefully, my dear Republican friends.

There is absolutely nothing to worry about.

Ace, you deserve no other response than the following:

Ya know, US partisans, both Pubbies and Dems, just make me laugh.

You’re all just so ridiculous, fighting over such bullshit petty issues and obsessing over the tiniest fraction of difference between you on the political spectrum.

Anyone who gets religious, righteous, and rampant about a political party just ends up looking like a toddler in daycare, stomping up and down over which toy is his and when naptime will be.

Keep it up, kids. I need the entertainment.

Exactly right andros. Exactly right,

Please note, above poster:

You must be at least this high [puts hand two inches above ground] to deride Ace.

Please come back when you gain stature and thought.

Ummm . . . which “above poster,” Sparky?

Isn’t there a policy about hate-speech on this Message Board?

Notwithstanding your opinion, but check your facts:

The mid-term elections are November 5, 2002, and not November 24. If your post had any sensible credibility, anyone taking your suggestions would be several weeks late to cast a vote.

No one casts a vote for the Supreme Court. True all are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, but don’t assume a total loss. Just remember that Earl Warren was appointed by Eisenhower.

You have to highlight the spoiler box. That’s conservative hate-speech.
